About
You are one of the three survivors of the slaughter of Castagath. Rescued by Grand Inquisitor Heimlock, you were drafted into the Republic’s Army of the Purifiers at a very young age to be trained in the military academy and become perfect soldiers against the supernatural. You also had the chance to benefit from Heimlock’s occasional advice and training, which led you and your childhood friends, Valeria and Edric, to be called the “Children of Heimlock”.
Recently, the Brotherhood of Dawn has infiltrated the Crimson Keep, a mysterious republican fortress lost among the northern deserts known as the Red wastes. While the purpose of the attack was unclear, the republican Senate voted a retaliation act against all known locations of the Brotherhood.
Led by Grand Inquisitor Heimlock himself, troops are soon deployed on the Coast of wrecks, near the city state of Stormfall, to terminate a camp of Brothers. You are, with your two childhood friends, part of operation Dawnbane, under the supervision of Justicar Maëlys.

♥♥♥♥ you why is d4 better than this ♥♥♥♥
Just finished chapter 3 and done two expeditions on Chapter 4. Level 45. My feelings so far is that the game is kind of easy and monotonous. I've been doing the same thing since pratically the start of the game: Holding "2" and spamming Annihilation. The beam. That has gotten me this far without any issues and it doesn't seem like that's going to change. Chapter 4 doesn't start well. I'm guessing that the "To be continued" in the end of Ch3 maybe means that the game at some point didn't have Ch4? If most reviews are from back then, that would explain the Mixed ratings. But even with Ch4 in the game, it's still feels pretty bad tbh. The items are kind of boring. For armor, I just always take the one with the highest sum of Health and Shield. For weapons, the highest attack. The other stuff feels too uninportant to bother with. It's particularly bad with rings, necklaces and belts. It feels like my first ring and the ones I have now don't have much difference. Both offer +2-5 of a damage type to attacks and spells, plus some other stuff that's not too significant. I'll try to finish Ch4, but right now, I'm pretty bored with the game. Will still give a positive because I don't think it deserves Mixed rating. The lowest positive (I think that's "Somewhat Positive"?) would probably fit better in my opinion.
fun
ARPG Wolcen is actually quite alright and far from a disappointment. Then again I don't have any history with it, so I'm likely more inclined to forgive its missteps. I struggle to call out something that is unique to Wolcen, besides the gorgeous graphics and the incredible soundtrack. And the game takes the time to tell its story through dialogue and (quite decent) cutscenes. Enemies are well animated and some look very imposing. Animations actually take priority above snappiness, so it makes running and dodging for example feel a little bit more heavy/sluggish (but IMO not in a bad way). There's some physics involved as well, so you'll see bodies slowly fall down stairs. Nice detail. Wolcen's not a very loot heavy game, at least not as much as for example Diablo 3. Item pre- and suffices are simplified as well, especially compared to Grim Dawn. The skill system is very intuitive, with all kinds of modifiers enhancing the baseline skill. The use of skills and magic is balanced with a meter. The more magic you use (wisdom), the less rage you have (skills need rage) and vice versa. Wolcen isn't always the best in explaining its mechanics and numbers. Some skill upgrades blatently state "the upgrade will do more damage", but how much is that? Some of the explanations are very clear and others are very vague. It's very inconsistent. About the bugs: besides some items laying on the ground not being labeled and two hard crashes (in almost 42 hours playtime) everything worked fine. All things considered I'd say Wolcen is a very casual friendly ARPG and a game I would recommend to someone new to the genre. And certainly when you can get it at a discount. I'm not the kind of gamer that keeps replaying the same content, so after 42 hours I was done with it. But as a total package it was an enjoyable experience. Rating: 7.0/10
