Fantastic boomer shooter, this. I'm not sure why there aren't more people singing this game's praises, to be frank. It not only plays really, really well, with super gratifying and fun weapons and a selection of characterful, strategically distinct enemies, it also nails what made the best shooters of yesteryear so good - the level design. Super atmospheric, surprisingly in-depth visuals aside - secrets abound and besides maybe one or two in the later episodes (like the secret level switches or the infamous barrel ride), they never feel unfairly obtuse and I genuinely always found them really fun to figure out. The devs managed to make exploration in a true oldschool shooter feel good - that's genuinely a massive achievement. Anyway, I highly recommend this one. Oh and the soundtrack is also really good! Feels like it was ripped straight out of an 80s fantasy epic - appropriately grand and adventurous, I really liked it.

Pretty good. Graphically it's like a long lost missing link between Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. The maps are pretty impressive looking considering they're mostly just cubes, planes, and decorative sprites. I also think I probably would've liked Heretic more if the gameplay was like this. You have 8 weapons (all of which have alt-fire), a handful of spells that recharge, and a bunch of consumable powerups. I almost felt like I had too many options in combat. The only bad thing is sometimes the enemy placement is utter BS sometimes spawning skeletons right in front/on top of you and you take hits before you can even react. Other than that I enjoyed it.
---See where this game landed on my FPS Tier List beneath this review!--- Wizordum is a game that imitates Wolfenstein 3D more than it does Doom. Wolfenstein is a game that was antiquated already with the release of Doom in 1993, so why this game wants to go back thaaat far in the past is baffling to me - that era is done and dusted as far as I'm concerned. Like in Hexen, you can cast some spells and sometimes enter areas within areas through a loading screen (through a door, up/down some stairs). I found the level design mildly annoying and disliked that I was frequently stopping to pick up collectables like in a collectathon game (treasure). The treasure has a purpose at least--you choose upgrades to spend your coin on between stages. Audio was a problem for me. The music sounds alright, but doesn't fit the mood for an FPS - it feels jarringly out of place. Some of the sound effects were pretty annoying too (like the birds chirping in outdoor sections). I did play one FPS that resembles Wolfenstein that I did leave a positive rec: Extraneum, though that game was more audio-visually appealing and just more enjoyable all-around. ===================== Singleplayer PC Traditional FPS ===================== Simply personal taste. Very chill game - turn your brain off, shoot, find secrets, repeat. Highly recommend, lots of fun.
i really tried, but this one didnt click with me. I played as a mage and i found it very boring and broken as ♥♥♥♥ -enemies can shoot through objects but you cant, there is stone on the ground but your projectiles stop but enemies projectiles wont, hitboxes are also extremly wierd and enemies can get stuck into walls or objects very very often... in one map, I had to eliminate all enemies in a room to progress, but there is this flying ghost enemy (like banshee or smthing) who went twice through the floor and i couldnt progress and had to reload save. Another negative is, there is no cue to enemy spawns, shooting or projectiles and trust me... this is extremely big issue. Enemies will spawn right behind you half of the game and you have no idea they are there or even they are shooting. Maybe 30% of my deaths were caused by enemies behind textures shooting through walls... and another 30% i had no idea what killed me or how... Really "awesome" experience. 4/10
Devs, hear me out: make a sequel, but make it co-op and roguelike. This already has "FPS Heroes of Hammerwatch" vibes; you could do something crazy with multiplayer here chasing that idea. Pretty fun overall though. Exploration and secret finding is great.
Wizordum Review – A Retro FPS That Feels Like Doom, Duke Nukem, and Wolfenstein Had a Magic-Fueled Child Playing Wizordum instantly brought me back to the golden age of classic shooters. The game feels like a love letter to old-school FPS legends like Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 3D, and DOOM, but with its own fantasy twist that makes it stand out instead of feeling like a copy. The first thing that hit me was the fast-paced movement and maze-like level design. Just like Wolfenstein, there’s that satisfying feeling of exploring secret rooms, hunting for hidden treasures, and blasting enemies around every corner. The pixel-art visuals and retro aesthetic perfectly capture that early 90s vibe while still looking polished and modern. At the same time, Wizordum carries the chaotic energy of DOOM. Combat is quick, aggressive, and rewarding. Enemies swarm you from every direction, forcing you to constantly move, dodge projectiles, and think fast. The weapons are creative and powerful, replacing traditional guns with magical staffs and spells, but they still deliver that same punch and satisfaction you’d expect from classic FPS firepower. Then there’s the Duke Nukem influence. The game has personality. The environments are interactive, the pacing never slows down, and there’s an arcade-style fun factor that keeps every level exciting. It doesn’t try to be overly serious or cinematic — it just wants you to have fun tearing through enemies and uncovering secrets. What really surprised me was how smooth and modern the gameplay feels despite its retro inspiration. The controls are responsive, the level design is smart, and the combat never feels outdated. Instead of relying only on nostalgia, Wizordum takes what made those older games great and updates it for modern players. If you grew up playing DOOM, Wolfenstein, or Duke Nukem, this game feels instantly familiar in the best possible way. And if you’re new to retro shooters, Wizordum is a great introduction to why those classic games became legendary in the first place. Overall, Wizordum captures the spirit of old-school FPS games while carving out its own magical identity. It’s fast, fun, packed with secrets, and incredibly satisfying to play. For retro shooter fans, this is an easy recommendation.
