About
Within the Cosmos is a single-player first-person sci-fi RPG.

The year is 2278. Humanity teeters on the brink of extinction. As a member of the United Earth Space Agency (UESA), you were one of 500 chosen for cryogenic sleep and launched aboard a starship to the secluded Adallio star system. This hidden refuge, far from the devastating war consuming Earth, was humanity's last hope for survival.
But something went wrong. Your ship arrived generations later than planned. Upon awakening, you discover a fractured society. Humanity has splintered into various factions, each with its own politics, philosophies, and ambitions. To make matters worse, a mysterious and deadly android enemy has recently emerged, threatening the fragile peace.
Amidst the tension and turmoil, you must navigate this divided world, uniting (or further dividing) the factions and uncovering the truth behind the relentless android attacks. The future of humanity depends on your choices.

This is the flat soda version of the fizzy Outer Worlds. That's fine - I'd enjoy it as solo dev jank - but it's broken, even as of "2.2" (feels like 0.6). Certain skills don't let you invest points, side quests don't clear or break. Looking at the patch notes he's adding enemy variety at this point, which is nice but you're decorating an underbaked cake.
The game is pretty good, performance ist good - like The Outer Worlds (story, visuals are nice) My Suggestions: - AI Companion - More Skills - Armor, or Shields for Protagonist (The character is dying so easily)
fun rpg & great writing. happy to see it finally released. this is a dev trying to compete with giants like bethesda and obsidian. we should support devs who aim for the stars, as that means more great devs making great games. yeah it has some visual similarities to the outer worlds but to me, it plays more like deus ex and fallout, maybe a bit of cyberpunk too. seems like there will be a patch later today, can't wait to try it out then
Good effort esp for a one man band. The controls are a bit more floaty with the controller vs keyboard/mouse but I'm also not as on point with my reflexes anymore. Has VO and character customization where I wasnt expecting it + the skill system is pretty varied so far. Will check back in on this game once I get into the mood to bury myself in gaming once more.
This game at 2.07 feels incredible similar to 1.0 release. It's a bit less buggy. I have spent my time playing documenting my experience with the latest version of the game. I hope debdev takes the notes to improve. Currently the game is still not worth a quarter of its price for the quality of the game provided. Within The Cosmos Notes: In game order 1. The Introduction voice over sounds very poor quality and monotone. Does not give a good first impression. 2. Would be nice if it noted whether or not you can earn more attributes throughout the game so players can better spec. 3. Instant opening is a bit jarring. 4. Props have inconsistent levels of dirt in the starting area, makes the otherwise nice environment feel weird. Misc 1. Should increase the amount the player character can look down, it's uncomfortably limited. 2. The quest marker is too central when out of the players focus, it's like a bug flying around, uncomfortable. It jumps from the very edge of the screen to half way to the center. Bugs 1. I clicked 'N' and for some reason I'm looking under the map? (Outside starting area) 2. After going into settings, clicking back then ESC it resumes the game but does not remove the pause menu from the screen. 3. Quickhack mode tutorial popup when I don't yet have the software to actually do it. 4. After talking to the man with a bomb (He cut the generators), entering dialogue with him again resets the dialogue back to before the conversation started. 5. There's a talk prompt on a dead enemy, it's not leaving the screen at any distance. 6. I can't sell anything with a stack amount. 7. Characters consistently move their mouths when not talking. 8. There are some walls you can simply just walk through and fall into the abyss. Gameplay 1. The rifle feels like it has no punch, like I'm shooting a nerf gun. Quality of Life 1. Add alternating sounds for lockers being opened. 2. If a popup inventory is empty, clicking E should close it like it does when you take the final item. 3. Some menus/popups are closed by E while others are F. Audio 1. Computer menu sounds are much louder than other sounds 2. You can spam 'E' on guards and they'll talk over themselves. 3. A store with 2 people in it has the ambient audio of what would be like 20 people. Story 1. It simply doesn't make much sense to not read the data at the base. Sure it's location is compromised but it's not like the data will instantly be too. And it's not like the purists put a virus on the machine. 2. The only option is to leave the traitor in the corner there?? Why that makes so little sense to me. 3. Am I simply not to mention the soldier he killed? That seems slightly important does it not? Other 1. PC chugs, louder than running cyberpunk on high.. PC Specs; I9 12900k, RTX 4080s, 32GBs DDR4 3600 CL12 I sincerely struggle to believe that AI voices weren't used in the game. The voices are lifeless and tone-deaf. This game is not fun. It simply is something. Feels like a tech demo from the early 2000s. I truly believe that debdev needs to isolate each piece of the game and rework it. First start with combat and player movement, please it feels really bland. Then polish the dialogue system. Create a 20-30 minute vertical slice of a polished game then work from there and bring it to the rest of the game. I think the environments look really nice but there's a massive lack of optimization in them, seriously I had to run on medium 1080p so my 4080 Super GPU would stop whining. It just... needs a lot of work, I believe in you <3
It's a very ambitious game and I'm very impressed with what debdev has managed to do with this game. Definitely still needs a bit more polish as there are a few bugs that could annoy some people, but otherwise it's alright. Kinda reminds me of fallout new vegas a bit.
i really tried to give this a chance, nothing works. Story- boring and unengaging Gameplay- point and shoot visuals - PS3 and horrible sound balance this is very much a fan game from someone who really liked the "Outer Worlds" but it has none of the same aspects. even if the constant bugs will be fixed the systems underneath are simply not worth it. if this is truly a single dev work then, good job trying, but the game is still bad. maybe better luck next time
Eng: With the last update 2.2.2, the game is much better. There are places where the game falls, e.g. when shooting down laser mines. But otherwise, it's playable and stable. The last quest works well too, newly added the final Boss before a bunker that wasn't there before. Most bugs are already fixed, there are two minor quests that can't be completed, on which I used the command console ("+"). Reaching level 20 is a mockery because in the game you go to reach the max level 11 with all the quests and taking out all the enemies. The only thing that still bothers me is the broken 5 achievements and dubbing in the last quest, where the author got a few words mixed up and tries words to pronounce them well. This should never make it into the final version, and it's a pretty distracting business. Whoever has been hesitant to buy up to now can stop and buy the game - this is what the final version was supposed to look like and now I can say the price matches the quality and work done on the game.
The game is obviously heavily inspired by The Outer Worlds, and it does have some interesting ideas mechanics-wise. Story, dialogue, and voice acting are average at best (arguably below average), but since the game is made by a solo dev I don't mind that too much. However, even almost a year after release major gameplay elements still don't work properly. Quests are broken. Quest tracking doesn't work properly. Gunplay is unbalanced (the sniper rifle for instance feels like a peashooter). The map overlays stopped working at some point, which not only disables quest markers, but fast travel as well. Another issue I have with the game is that character attributes are fixed after character creation. Upgrading your character is done through skills and perks only. And progression feels quite slow. Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Needs more polishing and fixes. I, for one, lost my whole inventory during a level transition. Other than that, the game looks and feels as good as one would expect of a single developer project, namely, clunky a bit, but charming in its own way.
