About

Every journey in Windward is unique. Generate a world that is yours alone, filled with dynamic towns, unpredictable encounters, and a growing network of trade and conflict. As you sail further from your starting point, the challenges intensify, but so do the rewards. Pirates lurk in uncharted waters, and the AI, bound by the same rules as you, must explore and adapt just as you do.

Windward is designed for both solo and cooperative play. While you can sail alone, the experience truly comes alive with friends. Work together to expand your influence, take on dangerous foes, and build a thriving faction. As your reputation grows, friendly AI may even choose to follow and assist you in your adventures.

Your ship is your lifeline, and choosing the right one matters. Fast Schooners are ideal for exploration, while massive Ships of the Line bring unmatched firepower to battle. As towns prosper through trade and questing, they offer new upgrades and more powerful ships, allowing you to adapt to the ever-changing world.

How you shape your journey is entirely up to you. Fight off pirates, trade with growing towns, take on quests, or simply explore the open waters. Towns will respond to your actions, growing as you supply their needs. Build a fearsome reputation, and the AI will take notice—some will challenge you, while others will choose to stay out of your way.
Set sail and carve your path in a world that evolves with you.

Slow and incredible grindy with no content to look into. The trade commissions are so ridiculously small and the cargo space limited to one unit of traded good in the quest stack. With 10 times the profit rate it could be tolerable, not like this. Everything is as slow as molasses and there is a floaty feel to everything. It might look okay, though has no engaging game feel when you actually play it. It has the "meet the kickstarter promises" feel to it where things such as the naval battles technically are there, though they feel like something quickly made for a mobile game. The cake is hollow.
Sigh, i really liked WIndward at start and for good chunk of playtime, but… developers kinda abandoned game by that point already, so no new content and no fixes for bugs that were left. But still, it’s a neat pirate game, kinda, where you command ship and sail through maps doing quests, trading, exploring, hunting pirates and bosses. So Windward is a little open world procedurally generated naval arcade game, with a bit of rpg. You mostly develop your ship with new “gear” parts, not by actually lvling it and learning skills or assigning attribute points. There are some options regarding skills you could use, but they are quite few to choose from and generally about what kind of big cannonade you could use every few seconds. Trading and quests are viable mostly in early game or to gain faction reputation, best gear you get from powerful pirate boss ships drops. Fighting them is quite fun at first, but longer you play and higher lvl opponent you encounter more evident it becomes that those are staying the same, just getting insane amount of hp and bigger dmg, not new mechanics or interesting tactics, they just become bullet sponges. There are some bugs that are most evident in combat and unfortunately mostly left alone without fixing. As you might have noticed mmorpg and multiplayer tag - yes, it’s present, instead of your own procedurally generated world, you could join public one with other people in it, but activities are exactly same as in single player and enemies scaling is done in best Windward tradition by just making them much fatter and more damaging. Audio is nothing to write home about, don't expect pirate shanties or anything of likes, it would probably get annoying pretty fast considering how repetitive it is. Sounds are roughly sameish. Graphics are done in pretty standardy looking top down 3d manner, after looking at screenshot, you’d get sense that you’ve already seen that style somewhere and not just once. There is not much of distinctive style and neither were the looks great when it released, even less so now. Plot is not present i think, cant recall anything about it being in the game at all, though there shouldn’t be much of an issue regarding it.

I love this game, but the dev ruined it with strange decisions before leaving this game for their new ai slop remake.
Is supposed to be native on Linux, but doesn't start on Steam and crashes on Proton. Looks fun, but I can't play it. Edit: Works – barely – with GE, so I played it for some time. A meh game, but I vote it down for the ridiculous grind one has to endure to get the last ship 8500k gold, 10k & 10k of ressources), only to be followed by a plethora of fetch quests to actually get the ship... and then it sucks sea bass!
ITS AN above view game the detail is good it plays well on the steamdeck before you launch have to change the proton but after that everything runs great no issues game looks and plays great it could be a verified steam deck game its easy to get used to looks good plays good
