William and Sly is a gentle, exploratory adventure that feels like a love letter to curiosity, nature, and the quiet joy of wandering without pressure. Developed by Lucas Paakh and published by 2 Left Thumbs, the game expands on its origins as a beloved Flash-era title and reimagines that simple charm within a fully realized 3D world. Rather than chasing modern trends of constant objectives or high-intensity action, the game embraces a slower, more reflective pace, inviting players to inhabit the role of Sly the fox and explore a lush, magical wilderness driven by curiosity rather than urgency. From the moment players take control of Sly, movement and traversal stand out as a central pleasure of the experience. Running, jumping, and navigating the terrain feels fluid and responsive, encouraging experimentation with the environment. The world is designed vertically as much as it is horizontally, rewarding players who climb hills, scale cliffs, or venture off obvious paths. Falling carries no punishment, which reinforces the game’s welcoming tone and removes anxiety from exploration. This freedom allows players to focus entirely on discovery, whether that means chasing a distant glow, uncovering a hidden cave, or simply enjoying the rhythm of movement across fields and forested slopes. The open world itself is the game’s greatest strength. It is rich with variety, transitioning naturally between grassy plains, rocky mountains, flowing rivers, shadowy caves, and elevated viewpoints that offer breathtaking vistas. Rather than overwhelming players with icons or a cluttered interface, the environment subtly guides exploration through visual cues like glowing mushrooms and natural landmarks. Collecting mushrooms and magical essences becomes a satisfying loop, not because of extrinsic rewards alone, but because the act of discovery feels intrinsically rewarding. Each find reinforces the sense that the world is alive with secrets waiting to be uncovered. Visually, William and Sly opts for a clean, stylized aesthetic that prioritizes atmosphere over realism. The color palette is warm and inviting, with soft lighting that enhances the feeling of a living, breathing natural space. The environments feel handcrafted, and while the visuals are not technically extravagant, they are cohesive and expressive. This visual approach pairs beautifully with the game’s audio design. The soundtrack is calm, melodic, and unobtrusive, perfectly complementing long stretches of exploration. Ambient sounds of nature blend seamlessly with the music, creating a meditative soundscape that makes wandering through the world feel almost therapeutic. Narratively, the game keeps its storytelling light and understated. The presence of William and other mystical elements provides a loose framework and sense of purpose, but the story never dominates the experience. Instead, narrative details emerge organically through exploration and environmental context. There is a subtle sense of mystery tied to magical forces and a darker presence influencing the land, yet the game wisely avoids heavy exposition. This restraint allows players to project their own interpretations onto the world, enhancing immersion rather than dictating meaning. Combat, while present, remains minimal and uncomplicated, reinforcing the idea that this is a game about exploration first and foremost. The overall pacing is relaxed and unhurried, making William and Sly especially appealing to players seeking a cozy, low-stress experience. There are no timers, harsh difficulty spikes, or demanding skill checks to interrupt the flow. Instead, the game encourages players to move at their own pace, whether that means completing objectives efficiently or spending hours roaming the landscape in search of hidden secrets. With a generous amount of content and optional exploration, the game offers several hours of gameplay that feel consistently rewarding without overstaying their welcome. In the end, William and Sly succeeds not by trying to be grand or complex, but by being sincere, polished, and deeply comforting. It captures a rare sense of innocence and wonder that is often lost in larger, more aggressive game designs. While players seeking deep mechanics, intense combat, or a heavily scripted narrative may find it too understated, those who appreciate exploration-driven games, cozy atmospheres, and the joy of simply being in a beautifully crafted world will find it immensely satisfying. It stands as a reminder that sometimes the most memorable adventures are the quiet ones, where discovery is its own reward and the journey matters more than the destination. Rating: 7/10
Nice and relaxing, has the vibes of the original Flash games. I hate the caves though, there isn't an easy way to find their entrances on the map which feels necessary in a 3D environment.
I used to think "wow this game is so beautiful" about the flash games, and now there is a 3D version that takes my breath away. Genuinely a spiritual healing experience, Im sad for the people that dont know the flash games so they have a hard time finding this one; it deserves so much more attention. For people who find this randomly - just relax and play the game, it is worth every penny
This game is absolutely stunning: the landscape, the effects, kept surprising me all the time. If you love foxes and magical creatures, and wandering freely around the map then try this game out! Playing it just felt like a really good and mystical dream, definitely recommend it.
Highly recommended with a controller! If in doubt, just try the demo :)
Love everything about this game. Amazing 3rd game in the series, and extremely well executed in the music, gameplay, visuals, story.. everything is amazingly done. The nostalgia from the first two games definitely transfers over to this one. 11/10 would highly recommend to play.
I absolutely love this game so much. The original game was one of my favorite games growing up, and when I found out the creator was making a giant open world game with new goals, I had to get it. I'm not disappointed. I've 100%'d it but I still love to play it, I think about it all the time. It's absolutely beautiful.
