Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys strategy and emergent storytelling. The story campaigns are genuinely fun and well-written, and the creators have done a superb job making a system of random events and character generation that nevertheless tells coherent stories. The random events and character interactions bring a huge amount of life to the stories and the characters, and the ability to bring back your favorites across multiple campaigns is such a fun concept. It's well-executed here. Having only three character classes may initially seem limiting, but in reality they're much more broad archetypes than set classes. You can build your mystic as a blaster mage, sure, but you can also hand them a greataxe and mageplate, have their magic boost their melee damage, and call them a paladin. Your ranger can stick to shooting people, or you can build them as a dagger-wielding rogue who does double backstab damage, ignores armor, and goes back into stealth every time they get a kill. Your warrior can be a shield-tank knight, an inspiring archer, or a hyperaggressive raider barbarian who sets everything on fire. There's some beautiful versatility here. I've found the multiplayer to be reliably stable, and having someone experiencing the story alongside you makes it all the better. A friend and I always read the cutscene dialogue out loud, splitting the roles, and it enhances the experience. Also of note: You can specify which characters belong to which player, so in battles you'll only be prompted to control your own characters and those marked as shared. Very convenient. (Anyone can change those specifications at any time, so it's always a positive.) Anyway, enough seriousness. All hail Pamyvien Grave, the greatest warrior in 10 yonderings!
I've played 653 hours apparently. That should tell you enough.
Wildermyth. It is a "paper-craft" sorta-2D'ish party-based RPG, character customization, choices matter RPG. And there may never again be anything like it ever again, Except maybe as a sequel. And it better be a great sequel! Oh, God. Where do I begin? It is a beautiful game of what you think some heroes should act, feel, love, fight, and create a flow that dynamically and seamlessly changes how world events play out, based on your decisions. You have a stable of a handful of unlikely heroes composed of the archtypes in any fantasy setting - Warrior, Rogue, and Mystic. But as you level, you can define their equipment, what abilities they possess. Do you play them as heroes of the public good? Or something else? What's even cooler, you can also choose your company's name from a set of 3 choices (or simply type up a fitting title for yourself). Or you can set your heroes to be rivals and watch them bicker. But the cool aspect is, along the way, they may develop friendships with other heroes you can recruit into your company - or watch them deepen the chasm of being bitter enemies more and more. Then watch as what you do shapes how they are seen in the story that seems to shape itself over your decisions. For example, in the beginning, my male warrior and female rogue I decided should become romantically linked together. They share quiet moments joking and playfully teasing each other as the story developed. In time, like I did, you feel your heart wrenched as you come to realize that, indeed, "Time and tide waits for no man" (allegedly said Geoffrey Chauncer in about 1395 A.D.). You can watch your heroes slowly grow old as they also grow more powerful with abilities. By chapter 3, my warrior and rogue had a daughter (that I did not even know about until she was introduced at the start of 3), and she came to join on her parents' adventures. I could not have been more proud as if I were the parent myself. But anyway, combat is not too hard. Simply deploy your characters and utilize their abilities and crush all the horrors that dare to upset the realm. You can learn stealth abilities for your rouge-like characters and powerful strike capabilities for your warriors; for your mystics, you can interfuse with ordinary objects that can splinter or shatter onto your foes, or you can even harness nearby fires to use it to your advantage (namely, to damage, cause barriers, and ultimately spread). The music. Oh, wow, the music. You know, it's not often I listen to any game content. It's drab and dull and ear-shattering, so I often listen to podcasts while I play. BUT NOT FOR WILDERMYTH. I have never been enthralled by string and percussion instruments 'til this game, man. The cellos, violins, and other stringed instruments - it's all beautiful. Probably worthy of actually getting the CD for, if you ask me. Wildermyth. I should say more, but how can I? I cannot do it justice, seriously. This game is a solid 10.
Genuinely an amazing game. The stories are fast paced but palpable. That desire to find a game that genuinely feels like each story is unique and different and the characters are alive and dynamic without being scripted ended for me when I found Wildermyth. The randomly generated characters in this feel more alive than most games' scripted and voice acted characters. I've played more campaigns in this game than I can count and each one still feels fresh and alive, and I see new dialogue in almost every scene, and new options and events in every game. Not only that, but the gameplay is simple enough to grasp in less than an hour, but complex enough to never master, while still letting you play it the way you prefer instead of being forced into a scripted meta. A truly phenomenal game made of love and dedication, with excellent quality of life and amazing design choices and ideas. Worthy of a good review!
Fantastic little gem of a game! DnD and board game enthusiasts will find a lot to love here.
Peak, 10/10. The game knows what it wants to be and nails it in every way.
Excellent jeu, encore meilleur avec des zamis

A Masterpiece That Perfectly Captures the Magic of Tabletop RPGs!At first glance, the interface and the comic-book papercraft graphics might look a bit too simple or basic. But don't let that fool you! Once you dive in, this visual style becomes incredibly charming, cozy, and alive. The fantastic soundtrack doubles this immersion. The Good:Phenomenal Storytelling & Variety: The procedural generation in this game is incredible. Even after many hours, I haven't encountered the same Random Event twice. Your heroes' choices, their dreams, and their permanent physical mutations build a truly unique legacy every single time.Gameplay & The Calamity System: The turn-based combat is tight and deeply satisfying for anyone who loves Action Point management. The best-designed mechanic is how enemies receive permanent upgrades (Calamities) after battles and intervals. It fits into the game world seamlessly, feels completely fair, and scales the difficulty brilliantly without being awkward.Perks & Progression: The abilities you choose during level-ups are very impactful. Combining abilities like Long Reach or Battledance on your Warrior, turning your Hunter into a snowballing machine with Thornfang+, or skyrocketing your Mystic's damage with Vigorflow+ feels incredibly rewarding.Minor Criticisms:Class & Item Pool: There are only 3 base classes (Warrior, Hunter, Mystic) and the item count might seem a bit low initially. However, the unique skill choices, elemental weapons (like catching a Water Spirit), and permanent transformations (like turning into a Wolftouched or Stormtouched hero) completely make up for it and keep things feeling fresh.Verdict:If you love turn-based, tactical, action-point-heavy RPGs with a heavy focus on storytelling, Wildermyth is an absolute must-buy. Watching your heroes age, sacrifice themselves for the greater good, retire, and join your Legacy pool to be recruited as living legends in future campaigns is a unique joy. Highly recommended!
