SNES-gameplay with no QoL improvements? NT!
Definitely the definitive edition, and probably one many sleep on. I tried this out of curiosity on the Nintendo Switch Online, and it was surprisingly fun to play. However, researching a little, there was a better version released after, being Wild Guns Reloaded. It was my intention to buy it later, but on a good sale. And thankfully, it was right around the corner. Right off the bat, it was a bit of a high learning curve. Most enemies are the same in that they fire at you where you are, but others will do AOE regardless of your position. Once I got the hang of it, it was just a matter of racking up enough points for additional lives. It was challenging, but the engaging kind. The addition of two characters makes this an already fun, if not busted, game. Doris can just sweep the battlefield with grenades. Bullet, while not as OP, is fundamentally a two-player gimmick that can carry you in tight situations. It would've been cool if the PC version had the Boss Rush mode like the Nintendo Switch version (Not Switch online, but Reloaded for the Switch). Not a huge problem, but from my experience, PC has always been superior for almost all video games. Overall, this is a fantastic video game that adds just a few new things to make it breathe fresh air. And it's a multiplayer game too, so have at it with friends! Recommend it 100%!

OK I know you saw the thumbs down but this is for the remake as a whole, let me explain. Wild Guns is a game I only have a passing familiarity with having played it via emulation a few times. It's a game you know is good just by looking at it, it looks amazing, it looks cool. It also is a fairly unique game play style especially on the SNES but in general. It's a style that is still pretty fun, a quick play, with a few clever quarks of its own. Progression through stages is on a timer that seems to tick down faster the more kills you get. I'm not sure what the best way for a game of this style to address this very me issue, but I really love when clean play leads to me moving through a level quickly. In Wild Guns even though I'm technically progressing faster, it doesn't feel like I'm moving faster. It makes repeated runs feel stagnate, but again this is a very me issue. Obviously it's a game that will appeal to arcade 1CC/score chasers more (who don't need me to sell them on a classic), but worth a play through for casual players. However I'm not convinced the remake is worth it for most. The remake still looks great, and higher resolution means less screen to scroll helping the gameplay. The gameplay remains as crisp as ever but it makes a number of weird choices as a package. There are 2 new stages, which is cool (even if I dislike the Underground stag), but they are accessible based on difficulty, replacing other stages, not extending the amount you need to clear. You always play the same amount of levels which I guess keeps runs close to the same length but the game is already structured so that you have to clear 4 stages before the final stage, why not just let you pick 4 from the entire list of stages? It's a odd decision. Worse still are the bonus stages are removed completely, I like bonus stages, I want them here. They also created 2 new playable characters who have distinct playstyles that still work in Wild Guns. Another super cool thing of the remake which also expands co-op to 4 player. A nice feature I'll probably never use without any online support. Not to mention it makes the baffling decision to remove continues in co-op, which is not the case in the original. Too many barriers to count this mode as a feature. All that keeps me from being unable to fully recommend Reloaded. I like Wild Guns well enough, it's not a personal favorite, but I recognize that's it's a quality game and I have fun playing it. I might even return to it from time to time. The fact of the matter though is that this isn't much of an improvement over the SNES version, in some ways (co-op) it's a step down, which is pretty easy to access as long as you don't try to pay for a real cart.
Gorgeous pixel art, great music, brutally difficult, but satisfying to master. The only negative is that it doesn't have a save feature, so you either have to beat the whole game in one sitting or leave it minimized between play sessions.
Superb SNES Remake with significant enhancements (wider screen, novel levels and characters). Swift on-the-go- gameplay - fits perfect for a Steam Deck. Thrilling Galery shooter action. Awesome Soundtrack. Hard but fair difficulty. "Serious Fun" (it says in the intro)
You can play a little dog shooting robots dressed like cowboys. Did you need more?
Me hace ruido.
sort of mindblowing that they took an already very very good game and made it way more interesting with no snags whatsoever. i like all the tengo project remakes well enough but this one is incredibly special
