Reviews
So... I usually do not write reviews because I'm frankly not good at it. However, I've been looking through bad reviews and - although I agree with nearly all of the criticism - I do hope my 130 hours of playtime give me some degree of a grip on what this game is like. First off, narrative. Compared to its predecessors, this game is by far the most story-heavy. It contains cutscenes you are unable to skip through in order to clarify its tale to those who are interested and even has a puzzle focused around it. Those who don't want to play for the lore are very likely going to dislike those parts of it. Players like me who love snooping and piecing together a story, however, are going to find that this game deepens the story in ways many of us should be able to appreciate. Second of all, progression. Although progress can seem slow at times and the uncertainty of 'did it save, did it not' will hang over you on your first playthrough, the game is designed to save at the start of each of its 'chapters' and most of them will even have savepoints before the start of its puzzles. This can definitely make for frustration when you stopped halfway through a puzzle and find you have to regain part of your progress. However, keeping this in mind for when to continue playing and when to take a break will result in the save-design not quite impacting as much of your experience as some of the non-recommendations might suggest. Third; gameplay. What's about to come up is my personal opinion; I adore the puzzles in this installment. Some are unnecessarily easy and some get incredibly difficult. And I hear you ask; "Reviewer, then why do you like them?!" Well, the answer is simple. It's never the same puzzles that are difficult and easy when you play with more than one player. For me as a Dutch player, playing with a fellow Dutch person will make comms a lot faster, but we may start arguing over what to use for the puzzle and the solutions we believe a puzzle will have. To oppose that, playing with any English speaker who's not from a mainly English-speaking country makes communication a LOT more difficult. The puzzles themselves, although definitely feeling at times like one player's doing everything, tend to feel that way when one person has already found the actual hints they need. That brings me to the fourth point on my list; the hint system. Here's the only thing I genuinely did get pissy over first play. If you want genuine hints, you should either refer to the various YouTube video's that have now been made or ask about in the We Were Here discord if you can get a better hint. The hint system, although appreciated in thought, has not been well-executed and instead merely reminds the players to check every corner of the environment for their clues. Experienced Explorers who truly understand the structure of the series' installments will not need it for most of We Were Here's content. The ones that do are either new to the games or - and I will be offending some people with this - have not been paying attention to what the series has been doing plenty and consistently throughout its installments. For the nitpicks of the puzzle-community and those who cannot fathom what a communication-centered puzzle game actually entails, this videogame will not be a match. On the contrary, for the puzzlers who appreciate a game focused HARD on how to communicate clearly and effectively - which, let's be real, is a riddle in its own right in modern society - We Were Here Forever and the We Were Here series as a whole are a hidden gem between titles like A Way Out and It Takes Two. I highly reccommend you play through Forever fully at least once. However, you should decide for yourself whether you're the kind of player that just wants straight-forward puzzles or the kind that is up for the challenge of communication alongside it.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

We Were Here... the place this series holds in my heart. This series was definitely what made me and my best friend get so close. Some parts of these games were so frustrating, but that annoyance adds so much to why I like this series so much. To this day, the biggest inside jokes between me and my best friend come from We Were Here. I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!! Story - The story for We Were Here Forever is iconic between my best friend and I. I really like how every time we visit Castle Rock we're two new explorers who are building off the work of the explorers before us! Something really poetic about best friends dying just so that another set of best friends will die to save these souls. I liked that there were multiple occasions where we learned about the residents of Castle Rock (albeit some where creepy) while still being good puzzles! And of course... the Jester! His narration was very interesting, and his King was also very fun to listen to. The ending was interesting (me and my best friend went through a rabbit hole of learning the lore of Castle Rock) and the part where we chose who would sink... LOVED THAT! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Characters - THE JESTER!!! He's too iconic! His character design was creepy and fit him so perfectly. And the voicing? He carried!! The King's voicelines are still iconic within my best friend and I, but the Jester definitely takes the cake. Again, I loved how we learned more about the residents of Castle Rock through the puzzles, it made it seem like we actually knew them! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mechanics - I really liked the game mechanics! They were all very interesting and at parts trippy! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Visuals - The visuals were AMAZING! Every single section of the game was so visually pleasing, even the parts where it was supposed to be dirty and creepy! I especially loved the underwater sections and being in the Nautilus! And seeing THE Jester?! And his puzzles?? They were so stunning and trippy! So fun! I could keep going, but we'd be here forever (pun intended)! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Soundtrack - The soundtrack for this game ATEEE. Every song fit so insanely well with it's puzzle ESPECIALLY the Jester puzzles (can you tell I love the Jester?). I can't wait to see what they come up with when We Were Here Tomorrow comes out! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Puzzles - These were AMAZING. Each puzzle was difficult but so fun. The puzzle that was funniest to play was the one where one player had to dictate to the other which tiles to stand on. I was the one following directions and once again I left my best friend stressed out because I'm not very good with that. Oops! I remember (almost) every single puzzle even without a refresher, they were very memorable! The underwater and Nautilus puzzles were definitely my favorite, but every other puzzle was also amazing. The confusing Jester maze puzzles, the family tree puzzles, and the potion puzzles were difficult enough to keep us thinking! However, we HATED the puzzle with the glass and reflecting picture. It took us a while to figure out what to do and even longer to do it correctly. Still happy that this game wasn't just a breeze! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Duo playability - After almost 17 hours playing this game with my best friend, I can firmly say that this will make you and your best friend forever on the same wavelength. The amount of trust and communication needed for this game will make you know your best friend better than they know themselves and vice versa. I can't lie, me and her will often say we hate this game, but I think deep down we both loved playing it together. If she ever reads this, I hope she remembers how much she means to me. All that being said, yes, this game is very duo-y! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I genuinely love this series and can't wait for it to continue. Were we here? YES WE WERE!!!
Very good Co-op game to make with friends or lover
