Saw this game on sale and decided to try it out. Best decision of my life. Instead of independent cases with no relation to one another, they all ended up being connected in a nice, seamless way. It introduced new characters, explained relationships with previous, already known characters, and connected past cases to new ones. There are no supernatural elements to the story; all plot devices are seemingly realistic and grounded. I would say my favourite chapters were Chapters 4 and 6. As for the characters, they were all interesting in their own ways; none of their personalities felt flat to me and were consistent while following the plot. All in all, I'm glad I bought the game. Here's to hoping there will be DLCs or a sequel.
Very nice game. The story is so nicely plotted as if i am witnessing a movie
You can tell there was so much love and attention put into this game, from the historical details to the costumes. The setting is so unique and completely transported me to a place and time I knew absolutely nothing about. And oh my god, the overarching case of the dead brother had me GAGGED I stayed up all night finishing that case because I HAD to know what happened. Just can't recommend enough and I can't wait to see what these creators do next!!!
This game is a love letter to the murder mystery and case solving genre, right in the main menu they list a lot of their inspirations, and I think this game is a wonderful tribute to all those titles. If you like Ace Attorney especially, you will definitely enjoy this game, but any murder mystery including Danganronpa as well, if you like them you will enjoy this game. The characters are fun and pretty interesting, and it also includes a lot of interesting information about history.
One question. Have you - like me, ever dreamed of playing Phoenix Wright, but with a silky smooth story progression, zero pacing issues, and a complete lack of obnoxious, tedious, insufferable side characters? Well, dream no more.
This game is two things. It's like an Ace Attorney set in 1900s China, and it is a historical showcase of the time. The artwork and the overarching story capture the nostalgic and at the same time uncertain period of China emerging into the current era and its interaction with the outside world. The artwork is gorgeous, especially during the travel scenes of zoom out when the game is showcasing the environment in cities, villages, and rivers. The voice acting and translations worked well and they did a great job showcasing Chinese culture and history with little bits of information that are fed to us as the story progresses. Even the English parts are well done, they found some actual English voice actors who spoke well! The music I found pleasant and suited the scenes, I like the traditional instruments. The puzzles and clues are not too difficult and not too easy, they are just right and give a good sense of satisfaction. There were some parts where I had to use hints, but I didn't feel too bad about missing them. There were also some 'running' or 'sneaking' type sequences, short but thankfully can also be skipped. Overall - if you like Ace Attorney, I can definitely recommend this, it has that style, while it also retains its own identity.
