Really enjoyed playing this game with my boyfriend. While some points were dicey at times (for example the pipe ABCDE puzzle iykyk), we did end up getting all of the puzzles with only a single hint ever being used (which didn't help anyway, as the problem was my boyfriend didn't realise he could get an item from me). It can definitely get quite challenging, don't get me wrong, but some parts felt like we passed them in seconds, for example the rockbury's, while some, like the overcooked style one took multiple tries to get the timing right. It's important to note though, that we played together in person, which might've eased some communication issues that'd arise over discord or talkies (cough cough octopus sounds). Overall a great game, especially on sale ($6,83), and I'd dare compare it to It takes two in quality.
I had to die again.
We Were Here... the place this series holds in my heart. This series was definitely what made me and my best friend get so close. Some parts of these games were so frustrating, but that annoyance adds so much to why I like this series so much. To this day, the biggest inside jokes between me and my best friend come from We Were Here. I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!! Story - The story for We Were Here Forever is iconic between my best friend and I. I really like how every time we visit Castle Rock we're two new explorers who are building off the work of the explorers before us! Something really poetic about best friends dying just so that another set of best friends will die to save these souls. I liked that there were multiple occasions where we learned about the residents of Castle Rock (albeit some where creepy) while still being good puzzles! And of course... the Jester! His narration was very interesting, and his King was also very fun to listen to. The ending was interesting (me and my best friend went through a rabbit hole of learning the lore of Castle Rock) and the part where we chose who would sink... LOVED THAT! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Characters - THE JESTER!!! He's too iconic! His character design was creepy and fit him so perfectly. And the voicing? He carried!! The King's voicelines are still iconic within my best friend and I, but the Jester definitely takes the cake. Again, I loved how we learned more about the residents of Castle Rock through the puzzles, it made it seem like we actually knew them! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mechanics - I really liked the game mechanics! They were all very interesting and at parts trippy! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Visuals - The visuals were AMAZING! Every single section of the game was so visually pleasing, even the parts where it was supposed to be dirty and creepy! I especially loved the underwater sections and being in the Nautilus! And seeing THE Jester?! And his puzzles?? They were so stunning and trippy! So fun! I could keep going, but we'd be here forever (pun intended)! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Soundtrack - The soundtrack for this game ATEEE. Every song fit so insanely well with it's puzzle ESPECIALLY the Jester puzzles (can you tell I love the Jester?). I can't wait to see what they come up with when We Were Here Tomorrow comes out! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Puzzles - These were AMAZING. Each puzzle was difficult but so fun. The puzzle that was funniest to play was the one where one player had to dictate to the other which tiles to stand on. I was the one following directions and once again I left my best friend stressed out because I'm not very good with that. Oops! I remember (almost) every single puzzle even without a refresher, they were very memorable! The underwater and Nautilus puzzles were definitely my favorite, but every other puzzle was also amazing. The confusing Jester maze puzzles, the family tree puzzles, and the potion puzzles were difficult enough to keep us thinking! However, we HATED the puzzle with the glass and reflecting picture. It took us a while to figure out what to do and even longer to do it correctly. Still happy that this game wasn't just a breeze! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Duo playability - After almost 17 hours playing this game with my best friend, I can firmly say that this will make you and your best friend forever on the same wavelength. The amount of trust and communication needed for this game will make you know your best friend better than they know themselves and vice versa. I can't lie, me and her will often say we hate this game, but I think deep down we both loved playing it together. If she ever reads this, I hope she remembers how much she means to me. All that being said, yes, this game is very duo-y! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I genuinely love this series and can't wait for it to continue. Were we here? YES WE WERE!!!
