Excellent jeu, des intrigues, des revirements de situation et beaucoup de contenu. On ne s'ennuie pas, c'est un petit bijou pour tous ceux qui aiment la Révolution et pas seulement. Il faudra développer un sens aigu de la situation, jongler entre le devoir et la vie personnelle, déjouer des complots, virevolter entre de nombreuses alliances et factions hostiles. Très instructif et très proche de la réalité machiavélique de l'exercice du pouvoir. 100/100 recommandé !

GOOD

Good game, but be ready to read a lot and keep track of many moving parts. If you are fine with that, We. The Revolution can become something very special. You have to navigate court cases, testimonies, the political climate, the mood of Paris, different factions, your own family, and the lives of the people dragged before your tribunal. Sometimes the consequences of your choices can feel vague or even unfair. A verdict that seemed perfectly reasonable yesterday may suddenly become dangerous today, and you have to adapt if you want to survive.

A harrowing tale of the French Revolution, (the classic one, not Victor Hugo's) wherein you play a power-hungry judge who cares more about advancing his own position and eventually sitting at the right hand of the Incorruptible than actually meting out justice--or at least, that's how I played it. I imagine that it's possible to play it from a much more idealistic standpoint, doing your best to tease out the facts of each case, taking only the necessary measures to defend yourself in the intrigue segments, and such, but it would be significantly harder to keep your head in that scenario. It's not perfect; some of the mechanics are a little obscure, and it suffers from feature bloat to a degree--every couple of turns a new minigame gets added, most of which have no real influence on the main meat of the game, which is the trials and your character's personal life. I remember almost laughing when they introduced the military campaign aspect, for example. Still, they're not much of a time sink, and it remains a very good experience. I picked it up through a Humble Bundle, but it's absolutely worth a standalone purchase! POST-FINISHING: Whew, it really takes a turn near the end! Honestly, excellent ludonarrative resonance--remember all those superfluous minigames I mentioned? Every single one of them is used brilliantly to display the drastic changes in Paris and your judge's life. Looking back on the plot, I quite liked it, but certain arcs of story end abruptly (I think particularly of a third act plotline surrounding the Declaration of the Rights of Women where, if you come out in favor of it, you receive a short letter from an anonymous woman thanking you and nothing more) and others start equally abruptly. (technically spoilers ahead, but if you paid attention during History in Middle School you already know these broad strokes: the player character shows no opposition to Robespierre and his actions, outside of being mildly annoyed by him in one scene, but at one point gets involved in a wide-ranging conspiracy to dethrone the Tiger-Cat, including a man who I was [i] pretty sure [/i] the game had been building up to be your next target.) However, once you get over those initial shocks and go along with it, the plotlines themselves are quite compelling and well-written. The rise, fall, second rise and final fall (and, maybe, last rise?) of Alexis Fidele is an engrossing tale, and the game itself reinforces that extremely well. I can't wait to do another run where I acquit both royals, Robespierre, and that particular individual who tries to assassinate you near the end!
