Probably one of my new favorite games. story was 11/10 and I love the actual repercussions for your actions and multiple ways to complete objectives unlike bethesda games, my usual go to. If you dont mind the turn based combat, give this game a try. Its worth it. took me 41 hours to beat the game the first time completing everything I could and theres at least two or three more ways I want to beat the game so its worth the price for sure.
"Tja."
"Sell junk" sells crafting components which game marks as "junk" (e.g: burnt book). You can't even manually sell junk, you would have to drop the junk you want to save. Micromanagement hell if you dont want to miss on crafting. Other than that, the game isn't that bad, but this part is very frustrating - because of that I can never sell junk items.
It's so damn close to being exceptional. RPGs like Wasteland 3 are so rare. I was so impressed by the dialogue, the breath of options is genuinely its biggest strength. Engaging with it, you'll so very often discover new hidden choices that you'd otherwise completely miss. Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't even have dialogue this good. The quests are all exceptional and they feature so many branches, it's awesome. This is why I love RPGs. The factions too, they're zany, but it works beautifully in the context of the world they've created. It handles serious topics balanced with humor so well. It made me laugh a lot. Though I have not yet played cult of holy detonation, I plan to, Steeltown is definitely great narrative-wise, I think the complaints about the combat are slightly overblown. Ah, the combat, I enjoyed it, certainly. The build craft is good, when reaching the end of the game it really pays off, all you've built towards comes to fruition and damn, you're completely overpowered. But it's not without its faults. One of my biggest issues with the game, it's missing a lot of polish. Basic quality of life you'd expect for this sort of combat is entirely absent. First off, the "ruleset", just isn't explained well, especially in character creation. Still unclear to me how initiative works. I wish keywords were highlighted and you could see a detailed description of exactly how they tick. It's also kind of frustrating how inspecting enemies works in combat. There are no shortcuts, you gotta click that little damn info button every time and the menu that pops up is not great, it should be positioned better, cleaner and show more information. There are a lot of little annoying tidbits like the radius of aoes not being defined clearly but the main issue is really that the intricacies of the mechanics aren't explained well. And when doing a respec is so damn costly, it ends up being frustratingly punishing. The user interface is straight up bad. I barely interacted with crafting because the menu is so clunky and overwhelming. I also found it hard to navigate and organize the inventory. I gotta ask, why are some drops and weapons locked behind random loot? We had to save scum in order to get the sniper required to craft the freeze ray because we were unlucky, it just didn't want to drop. All of these troubles I can live with, but what really dragged the experience down was the technical state. I played Cyberpunk 2077 at launch, current day wasteland 3 might genuinely be worse. We played in co-op which might've been the source of most of the problems, nonetheless what we experienced was unacceptable. We ran into so many bugs. And most of them weren't the funny visual ones, but game breaking issues. What would've otherwise been a marvelous experience was constantly interrupted by frustrating difficulties. Stutters, Unable to save, crippling frame drops, dlc quest disappearing, sequence breaking. Plenty of other stuff too, audio breaking, repeating conversations, visual glitches, etc. If I were to name everything we encountered, the list would be too long. It really left a sour taste. Nonetheless, I still plan on doing another playthrough solo, there's still so much left for me to see. After playing Wasteland 3, my excitement for clockwork revolution quintupled. I just pray they're able to get it in a better state than this game. It's also sad that with current Xbox, I think wasteland 4 will never see the light of day, at least not in this way. I would absolutely recommend this game if you're able to tolerate jank and a lot of bugs.
As a veteran of CRPGs such as PoE (1 & 2); Solasta; Baldur's Gate (all versions); Torment etc, I have to say this is in no way similar to those classic games listed. Coming off an enjoyable 66 hours with Outer Worlds 2 this game made me feel I'd stepped back nearly 30 years. So bad are the graphics, so poor is very basic combat and that's not even the half of it! I think this game is aimed at a teenager! The 'humour' ,such as it is, borders on the crass. Speech is 'Kissing Ass' - Really! This might illicit frivolity at the back of a Junior school class but it doesn't impress compared to the humour of say Fallout or Outer Worlds. Then there's the voice acting! Just about the most cliched, dumbest voices they could find! If like me you love CRPGs, then give this a miss!
I love this game. If you like CRPG's then this is a great one. Lots of wacky humor, not as dark in tone as I feared. Usually with a CRPG if I get to the end I am done but so far I want to play through again to check out storylines and characters I missed. Also bought all the DLC and what I have experienced so far with that has definitely been worth it.
Viciante. 10/10
