About
Wartorn is a single-player, squad-based, roguelite where players play as Yara and Elani, sisters who have been driven from their home and must traverse the wartorn Isles of Talaur to reach the safety of Beynun, their ancestral fortress. Harness the elements in fierce real-time battles while upgrading a crew of fantasy creatures as you search for your family.
Wartorn features a systemic, emergent gameplay system using the elements of fire, water, tar, plant, and lightning. Strategically choose your squads to master the elements and environment against hordes of enemies. Water extinguishes fire, tar amplifies fire, electricity crackles across the ranks in wet conditions, and water can heal plant-based units. And that’s just scratching the surface!

Build out your Caravan by recruiting squads of fantasy creatures including goblins, elves, demons, treefolk, (and more!) as you travel the world. Each squad adds new strategic options to your caravan through their different characteristics and unique abilities. Mix and match what squads you bring into battle to truly master a run. Battlefield positioning, squad combos, and skillful usage of abilities can win the day, but be careful, losses cost you morale, and if your caravan loses hope it’s game over.

The game’s blend of strategic and roguelite elements offer deep replayability, with each run feeling fresh thanks to emergent gameplay, dynamic squad management, and unpredictable narrative events that can save your struggling band or cost them their lives.

Search the Isles of Talaur to meet Yara and Elani’s family, who reveal pieces of the game’s story and grant the player heirlooms that bring with them new advantages and abilities for future runs.
Explore the Overworld Map, which shows off the massive scale of your journey. With branching paths and unexpected outcomes, every choice leads to new challenges. Be sure to monitor your hope, your food, and take care of your squads!

这个游戏治好了我几年的电子ED(上一个这么好玩的还是全战了)
You can manage your fights, but after 3 negative events in a row, your run will be cancelled. The game still has some bugs, like a trinket can change on your main unit without your realisation or asking. One fight, Yara had one trinket, and the next, another... But game is fun in the end.
Game was very well made from what I played. The only reason I refunded it was I was expecting more hero units to work with and more of a skill tree instead of brief battles which became semi repeating very quickly.
(I've got about 10 or so hours so far on my girlfriend's account!) I've had a ton of fun playing Wartorn so far. The bones here are so strong it's impossible not to see this game's potential, even this early into it's life cycle. Art is beautiful, the story, characters, and VO are all great and break up the gameplay nicely, and even though I feel progression is a bit too slow, I've had a lot of fun getting closer and closer to the endgame. Please go support this game, it deserves it!
The gameplay is okay. Art is very nice. The coding is obviously not efficient. But the writing. The writing and voice acting are both top notch childish and corny as teenager's first draft. These devs sound must be kids who've never had a single hard life experience to write something so childish.
This is a pretty good roguelike RPG. The micro-management is relatively simplified, but the pace is fast. The actual combat gameplay feels somewhat similar to Company of Heroes or Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, though the story it tells feels more like something from Warcraft. If you've played games like the ones mentioned above, it should be easy to pick up. The UI is excellent—I saw the same one in the "Band of Crusaders" demo (could this be from the same studio?). It's clean and the interaction design is well done. The art style leans toward an animated look with an oil painting feel, and the modeling, character illustrations, cutscenes, and map environments are relatively unified and cohesive. As a roguelike game, it naturally includes progression systems both within and between runs, and based on my experience so far, they feel fairly generous and engaging. Additionally, the game has some interesting mechanics—for example, magic units can cast various elemental spells that interact with the environment (such as casting rain on grassland to entangle units). Various elemental tiles can also stack to produce corresponding reactions (for instance, combining rain and lightning strikes creates a conduction effect). At the very beginning, it seems the dev team used pure machine translation for the Simplified Chinese content, making it completely incomprehensible. Now it appears they've switched to AI translation, which is a lot better than before. Aside from a very small amount of untranslated text, it's generally quite clear. Overall, at least as a player, I can feel the thought and care that went into this game.
I have played 5 hours and completed 3 runs. I've defeated the first boss, and while the game has some issues, it's still largely enjoyable. Pros: - The art style is great now that they've added and option to turn off the painterly effect. - The story is compelling. - The voice acting is satisfying. - The random events feel unique and can be interacted with in unique ways as you progress. - The core gameplay loop is fun; RTS action with permanent health damage really makes it so your actions and skill impact future choices. - Unit upgrades feel diverse. Turn your lightning mages into dodge tanks with a blink ability. Cons: - The random events feel quite polar, the RNG can brick your run at any point. - The unit AI is poor. The parking in an RTS game is very important and it can make combat sluggish. - The lack of tooltips; please give me more information like the DPS of a summon, how much water slows movement by, and numbers on ability cooldowns. - The lack of a minimap makes tracking units difficult, but it forces you to look around and that's not a bad thing, except you cannot rotate the camera. - There is no demarcation for areas you cannot traverse but enemy units can travel there. I consider this a bug and should be attended immediately. - The meta progression feels slow and uninspired. Grind 'strands' to give your units one of several stat boosts. Overall, the game is fun and has great potential. If you are a fan of RTS, roguelike, and enjoy a compelling story, this is worth your time. Until updates have been implemented, try to get it on sale (~40% off).
Fun.
Remind me of Myth II's gameplay but with roguelike twist. You always start with random units and you better hold them dearly and train them well... once they gone, they are gone until your next run. The story is good at least for me. The control are easy to learn and hard to master. Will update as I play!
