Look I know this game won't appeal to everyone but wow this is seriously one of my favorites in my library. It is nearly the perfect game for what I enjoy, Open world exploration, resource management, turn based combat, different classes/Subclasses, wide array of skills to explore, challenging combat and puzzles. Wartales is a game about survival and learning when to let go, I have lost characters that I started with after 80 hours in and I feel the impact heavily, as you journey through the world your party starts to feel more and more alive with what they like and dislike. You might have one party member that is a drunk and demands more food each rest but will charge into the fray to defend their friends. You might have a character that on paper looks amazing but everyone else in the party hates them and they refuse to get a long with anyone causing fight in the camp. You can even tame animals and let them join the party which unlocks a completely different playstyle. I cant rave on this game enough honestly, I understand the the DLC's for the most part have been lack luster but honestly I think the nailed it with the Pirates of Belerion and Skelmar Invasion. In my opinion the game doesn't need to many large content drops because of how much is available in the base game it will take you at least 100 hours to even get near to completing the base areas. If you decide to try it out then the only thing I would recommend is not save scumming battles as that is what really makes the game, if you lose a party member you can find a nice area and bury them and go back to visit and reminisce. The game will frustrate you at times but keep at it and learn and you will not be disappointed. Wartales 8/10 Highly Recommend.
Great bones, fundementally flawed and sometimes broken UI and Quest System. After a long experience in this game I have to give it a downvote in the hopes the Devs see it and fix some critical issues. If they can adress them I would be happy to change it to a positive review. The Good. Exploration and early region stories are straightforward and rewarding. Starting out feels great—you explore, uncover lore, and progress naturally. The game hooks you early. Constant engagement. You're always gathering, cooking, leveling, and moving around the world. There's always something to do. The gameplay loop is addictive and keeps you invested in your squad's growth. Procedurally generated missions with genuine variety. The endless side missions somehow don't get boring. There's enough variation in objectives and encounters that grinding feels purposeful rather than tedious. The bad. Quest UI is broken. The questlog randomly disappears and reappears. The hotkeys don't work half the time & finding your objectives is a excersise in futility. Quest objectives are cryptic and poorly communicated. The game tells you to "investigate the embassy" but doesn't explain how to actually access it. NPCs give vague directions. No clear markers. I ended up seeking help online and still couldn't progress. The Plaugue ridden. - Mission NPCs can get stuck in your party. You're forced to have them tag along with specific quests, but then they end up staying in your troop until your forced to ask AI how to get rid of them because you have no idea where to take them. They end up draining resources. Worse, In combat, they take up valuable early turn moves and can get themselves killed causing combat resets. - Unreliable Grinmeer quest progression. You can't tell if you're missing a step or if the game is bugged. - Overly convoluted Grinmeer story. This suffers from unclear progression. Quests like the Yorvenn jailbreak and embassy investigation are infuriating, because the game doesn't guide you properly. This caused me to outright restart the game several times. Or simply to the bare minimum Grinmeer questline quota to unlock the region. Closing note. Wartales is a genuienly enjoable game early on and even mid Game, But once you Hit the Grinmeer provice it falls apart. Broken quest design, unreliable progression, and UI failures make this region's storyline cause burnout and for most players, impossible to complete. I've played through multiple times and always quit when I go to finish the Grinmeer questline. It's convaluted garbage that could be fixed by now. Wartales review May 31rst 2026. I have over 420 hours in this game. Though the game is really nice I Honestly regret spending every cent. Bought 3 dlcs in total - skelmar invasion, tawern opens and pirates of balerion. I havent yet tried any of the content from two of them, yet I fell like Im done with this game. Every time I come back to it I see a new update with new character class and a new "location" Great isnt it? NO IT ISNT. New character classes are fine, but it makes you wanna start over and develop new class together wild old ones, annoying a bit but positive. I have a HUGE problem with those "new locations". Each time they add something its nothing more than a stupid add in a game, game I already paid big money for. COME ON GUYS ITS SO FRUSTRATING. It feels more like an expensive subsription than a game I see more and more ads inside. New area? pay for dlc first. Shipwreck? pay for dlc. Destroyed tawern? Pay real money to repair it. New cool looking bridge? You need to pay to cross it and fight with the beast. Some random dungeon entry? You need to pay. COME ON WHAT IS THIS SUPPOSED TO BE!? The reason I play is to relax and spend time in some cool rpg world where Im a leader of a lesbian troop with a pigeon banner, I DONT WANNA SEE ADS AND PRICES EVERYWHERE. JUST GIVE US THOSE NEW DLCs FOR FREE. IDK increase the base game price A BIT or at least make those dlcs cost 2 Euros instead of 15. I regret I can just add one negative review, and Im a type of a player than almost NEVER reviews any game. Im just so done with this dlc policy.
Finish your game instead of pumping more DLCs.
♥♥♥♥ these devs. game is unplayable but hey... at least they have 100$ in DLC
只买主体感觉几乎没有剧情可言,没有目标中期就完全没有动力,也没有代入感。单纯的刷刷刷的养成战略游戏。
Constant crashes on steam deck. Do not trust the verified label. I'd love this game if not for the bugs.
I love this game. Which makes this review almost a regretful post. I put 70 hours into a playthrough. And I'm MAYBE halfway through the game. I enjoyed every second of it. So why do I personally not recommend the game? Because I lost that save file. I cannot repair it. I cannot backstep. I cannot keep playing it. Due to a recent update, myself (along with perhaps the rest of the community) cannot load into a save file after the most recent update. Therefore, our save files and our playthroughs are essentially, corrupted. This is a common theme among the player base. The devs update the game, to incorporate bug fixes for their new DLC's, but at the cost of completely corrupting their amazing game. You cannot play this game. It's quite a shame. Because again, I love this game. But I cant play it.
