Drill for oil like it's 1899! Turmoil offers players a visually charming, tongue-in-cheek take on the simulation genre inspired by the 19th century oil rush in North America.

I can feel the american coming inside of me. I must now send 3.2 billion dollars to isreal.
So after having this game sit on my account for years, and after stumbling across an old CallMeKevin video, I decided to stick it out for more than the hour I loosely remember. And somehow I was left feeling a little bit disappointed. Pro's Super easy to learn, honestly there is barely a meta and it is borderline an idle game in places. Easy on the eye, both a bad and good thing, it looks and feels like a mobile game, again, unsure of whether that is acceptable now, didn't overly bother me. Hotkeys are perfect from the word go. But I am struggling beyond those. Cons Repetitive music which can drive you nuts. Repetitive level design which actually made my eyes go heavy as it was so dull. Just one campaign in the base game, not many reasons to do more than one playthrough which you would expect from maybe a £3 game but not an ELEVEN POUND GAME. On that note my biggest irritation comes from the price of entry for one rather dull and repetitive campaign, but then 2 DLC's which aren't cheap nor free. That ruins what could've been a strong end to a long term project of a game. Which leads me into another issue, there is no incentive beyond money, no story, no hill to climb, just a bland and devoid of fun borderline mobile game. I very rarely thumb games down, but for over £20 for the full experience it just isn't worth it. It would still be expensive if the DLC's were included for £12. Considering the in depth, story and gameplay rich indie games I can pick up for £5 or less, this game is on a different planet. Only buy this if it is on sale. Such a shame as well, as the bones are here for a great little managment sim.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This game really, really, really, REALLY overstays its welcome. I'm mostly looking at it through the lense of an achievement hunter. I enjoy the core gameplay, but the amount of fun you'll have for the price you'll pay is not a good ratio. This game is maybe worth it on a 75% sale I suppose, don't pay more. To elaborate, the basegame is... fine. It's simple, relaxing management game, and the first few hours are genuinely fun. But then, you're kind of tired of the same gameplay loop, and realise you're only halfway through the base game. Without any challenge anymore, the AI is too bad to match you. So, you slog through the remaining basegame content and it's kind of whatever, enjoyable, then repetitive, but an okay-ish game. But then there's expert, which frankly, also wasn't a challenge, and by now, roughly 10-12 hours into the game, you're sick and tired of this same repetitive gameplay loop, so you quit. But then the DLCs come out and you come back. The Heat is On, frankly, was a disappointment, you change the way gas pockets are grown, add one more mechanic with the heat speeding up how fast the oil flows and here you go, another 8-10 hours of playtime of the same repetitive tasks, why did you even come back to this game? Then the Deeper Underground comes out, which was better, but still nothing extraordinary. I enjoyed the new mechanics, the game actually had some depth this time. I enjoyed that the AI actually puts up a fight and on Expert I almost lost my first try. I also really, really appreciate the fact this DLC had a shorter campaign than the basegame and The Heat is On, from these 5-6 hours to 3 hours more or less. But by now it took me 30 hours to 100% this game, and the only part I enjoyed a lot was the very first run until up about half of the game, and the beginning of Deeper Underground. So, to summarise, the idea behind this game is cool and you'll like it initially, but the more you play, the more you'll realise it's just not complex enough to last as long as it does, and you'll either drop it or force yourself to finish it, hating the game more and more.

It is a cute little game. Looks nice, sounds nice, plays nice. A little bit shallow, yes, you can deduce the win path in 4-6h, and it doesn't change much later (maybe something drastically new appears in later areas, I haven't gotten that far). I certainly enjoyed playing it, but I can't recommend it because of the issues with saves and the way saves are done in general. The game autosaves on mission exit, and has a single save slot which you can do nothing about. That wouldn't be an issue, was it not for the fact that the game fails to load saves or produce saves properly. Here is an example: I've gotten to the desert and got a diamond (~2h of playtime), exited the game as usual, and went by my business. Next day I return, run the game, continue the campain, and game loads on the old save (3-4 missions before the desert). There is nothing I could do about it, I couldn't even see what it loaded and what else was there. I tried to reload multiple times, but that didn't help. The game was saving on the old save already, so I lost all my progress (not once). Third time it happened to me I lost my faith in this game, and decided to write this review.
Personal Rating: Very Positive (90%) Your average oil mining game, that would make an average American proud. There is more than just pumping oil. You need to compete againd other 3AI's that try to topple you and get more oil, and ultimately, more stocks in order to take the post. It's fun, but it can very well turn into a financial chess game, instead of just mining oil.
Kept making long drills across the ground and not paying for anything else. Just watched the spillage kept going and going. 10/10
