Wars of the Roses

Looks good. Plays good. Is historically accurate enough to please this grognerd.

Not everyday a war of the roses strategy game comes along its more complex than it looks and overall very enjoyable. I cant complain about the lack of missions tons of them and plenty of different units to play with aswell. Good job devs.

As a newcomer i found this game quite easy to master and started off using tutorials and using the causal mode. After a week all was well then the game crashes and will not reload. Steam are not helpful at all sending back standard e mails stating they will not refund as i have played over two hours! Surely if a game is not working its not my fault, but the software. So much for consumer rights and Steams customer service attitude, it stinks in my view. HexWar Games have so far not replied to my requests. So all in all a decent game but lots of problems and apparently no one is bothered. Would like any advice?

Totally unplayable because no cursor cannot be seen. I spent more than two hours "playing" it as I tried to fix the problem so now I cannot get a refund. Absolutely no place on Hexwar website for support or Steam for that matter. So the game gets zero stars as does Steam.

Skirmishers too strong and bill separate from bow, ,but otherwise, many good scenarios, amusing game, good value

While this game takes place during the Wars of the Roses, a period I do not recall any others covering, it is a Hexwar game. As such, gameplay is relatively straight-forward. I.e. move your troops and hope the dice/RNG decide in your favor. Recommend to those who enjoy this sort of thing.

Easy to learn and play, quite fun. I only ever play in historical mode as there doesn't seem any point otherwise. The mechanics are occasionally a little clunky; sometimes attacking a unit in the flank does not show as a flank attack. Also there seems to be no way to about-face troops. The only way to do this is to march one hex beyond your destination and the next go march back. The only exception to this are missile troops who automatically tun to face their target. Oddly, missile troops can move and fire but not fire and move. If you move them and then move another unit you lose the chance to have them fire. On the whole missile troops. particularly light infantry are far too powerful. They never run short of ammunition, can pass through friendly troops, are difficult to hit with missiles, can dodge out of the way of attacking troops, when caught by a second unit after retreating can retreat again after taking some casualties to thus escape destruction, and in the case of Irish Kerns can outfight heavy infantry when surrounded and incapable of retreat (not just a fluke this happens repeatedly in the battle of Stoke field). This last scenario seems almost unwinnable when playing as Lancastrians as there are a huge number of Irish Kerns in the Yorkist army. After many attempts I did eventually manage this through playing a very defensive game. Still, it is fun and not expensive.

Enjoyable, but perhaps rather "lite", tactical hex wargame. Some good features, but maybe the maps and troops aren't as historically accurate as they might have been.

Правила інтуітивно зрозумілі, навіть без туторіала. Хоча його все ж бажано пройти, щоб краще розуміти гру і будувати виграшну стратегію. Я ж зайшов відразу в перший бій, і виграв, виконавши цілі тієї битви. Рекомендую
