About

Warlord: Awaji is the second entry in a series of immersive strategy games created by Darkmatter Games. Step into the shoes of a legendary samurai warlord, given special command and orders from the Emperor to conquer an entire island and save a regime teetering on the edge of collapse.
A unique combination of first-person strategy elements places Warlord: Awaji in a genre of its own. Immersive strategy, pioneered by Darkmatter Games, fixes the player in the shoes of their character, while presenting them with complex strategic gameplay. Lead an army, construct your camp, conquer villages and forts, and disrupt dynamic enemy forces in a sprawling open world–entirely from this immersive strategy perspective. Turn the tide of battle by engaging directly in the action yourself, fighting alongside your own hand picked warriors fully in real time.
The world of Warlord: Awaji is a sprawling island created using real heightmap data of its eponymous location, replete with dozens of temples and shrines from real life. Travel the roads cautiously and keep your eyes on the treelines, as civilian convoys and roaming warrior bands criss-cross the open world in real time. The local clans will react aggressively to your exploits, so choose your actions carefully. Strategically target strongpoints to weaken enemy quick-reaction forces. Capture rival clans' shrines to boost your spiritual aura and harm theirs. Work with esoteric warrior monks to curse your enemies and coordinate powerful coalition attacks.
Your warriors are your most important weapon. Recruit and maintain a powerful retinue of samurai. Use conquered land to promote leaders and expand your army's capacity while organizing its battle formation in any way you like using an intuitive drag-and-drop menu. Each individual has a unique name and gains experience over time through heroic action. Give your best warriors advanced weapons and armor to boost their lethality in combat. Form diverse groups of melee, ranged, and cavalry troops. Mix and match to find the best army composition and crush the opposition.
Construct a samurai war camp anywhere in the open world. Pitch tents and provide your troops with a variety of needs, including sleep, rest, and sustenance. Put up screens and fences to establish a perimeter. Set guards to keep watch in the dark hours of the night. At any time, you may pack up and relocate your camp, allowing for complex strategic maneuvers. Decide where and when to set up your base, and which direction to move in as you explore the vast open world.
All of the weapons, armor, structures, names, and gameplay elements are inspired directly from extant literary, iconographic, and archeological sources. Darkmatter Games, with the help of world leading experts on samurai warfare, has painstakingly recreated the 14th century world of medieval Japan in unrivaled detail. Historical authenticity is the core element of the Warlord franchise. Prepare to experience the visceral world of the samurai like never before seen.

underrated, but could be better. game needs to be more difficult
It's a solid improvement over the previous Warlord title with more interesting combat and a lot of little new nifty features sprinkled throughout. Performance is pretty bad at times but is being worked on already. No notes really.
Very neat so far, looking forward to seeing more and what the devs have planned for the future.
Game is simple fun, not too complicated, combat is alright, little to no bugs (At least for me) with a very enjoyable gameplay loop that lets you slowly expand your forces and equipment. Personally, it is a improved game of its predecessor; Warlord Britannia (Although, it does have different mechanics and systems compared to Britannia)
While I sincerely want to give this game a "recommended": I just can't. After completing the first run I decided to finally try the "Warlord: Britannia" out and... But before that let me get into the positive sides of this game: This game has a somewhat better UI and I did not feel like my screen was getting cluttered, unlike in the previous game made by Darkmatter Games; This game is more approachable for newbies and developers try to introduce new mechanics gradually (unlike in "Britannia"); I like that NPCs are now actually stilized "people" instead of some figurines inteded to represent "people"; There is a bigger variety of weapons to choose from, though it doesn't mean that there is a lot; Now onto why I can't recommend this game right now (and, probably, ever, which is unfortunate): Approachability of this game is accomplished not only by polishing the introductory aspects of the game, but also by dumbing down every aspect of managing your "warband". While the Japanese in their "medieval" period did not wage wars like romans of antiquity did — it doesn't feel like developers tried to introduce players to a different approach to warfare. It feels like "Warlord: Britannia" was stripped of many features and moved to a japanese island ten centuries in the future. This is my biggest issue with the game and I have no hope that developers will change this, as it seems like a game-design flaw made in the earliest stages of development; While UI is not as cluttered as in "Britannia" it still sucks ass. Especially army management. I hope that somewhere down the line developers will add additional QOL features regarding the army-management and distribution of weapons/armor; The game is far too easy and unbalanced. After the first hour in-game I no longer felt like there was any campaign-wiping level of threat left for me. In "Britannia" you eventually reach a snow-ball stage, but it happens much later into the game. So while I will not call "Warlord: Awaji" a bad game: I can not recommend it. I wish developers best of luck with maintaining this game and developing a potential next installment in the series and hope that others players may enjoy this game more than I did.
This game is so magnificent and fun. The developer is highly responsive with the community and the combat is amazing. I could tell this game would improve a lot. The upgrade system is great. Although I might have some suggestions that can improve the game. 1. It may just be me but moving around is a hassle even with fast travels at checkpoints or mansions. Especially before you get a horse. I also found at that if I raze a checkpoint, I can't fast travel to it. I would like it if I could fast travel to hamlets at least. 2. I've noticed how important coins are for resources and diplomacy actions. I have a suggestion where you could generate passive income from your free lands. With free estate lands producing more income. Of course once you give those lands away you would not be able to have income from it since it now belongs to your promoted warrior. 3. When I paid for an allied army to support me I cannot believe how unbelievably slow they were once you get into fighting. Most of the time the battle would already be done before the allied party could even help. One time they just stood there watching me massecure the militia or monks. I definitely suggest an allied party speed up though I'm not sure how complicated the code really is for ai parties. 4. Maybe it is a bit of a stretch but can fancy shelters/food also supply regular needs? Like make the shelter also support regular troops like Genin if no more fancy warriors are available. I just want to replace my huts with tents since they look much cooler. In general I completely enjoy this game still. I really don't want to bash on what the developer can do to their own game. I have just finished conquering the northern part of Awaji.
*Chef's kill*
After clearing this first area to get some money, you can literally rush mid to end game areas for end game gear. When the AI from what I seen, will send raids after you or your camp after you upset them enough. I never seen AI take back lane so far. Also due to how camps work, you can skip a lot of the content and rush to the end game area but you will lose out on upgraded dudes and gear but after 7 hours I feel like I'm near capping out my dudes, I just need more end game weapons and armor and it's basically maxed out
