Quick Summary:
This is the very first time in my life playing and finishing a game set in the Warhammer 40k universe. As Captain Titus leading the Space Marines, fighting against Orks and Chaos to save the world, I can say the game satisfied me in terms of gameplay. Regarding enemy variety, I think there are enough types for a game that is already short in length; however, combat mechanics get quite repetitive right from the start. We have 4 weapon slots and around 8 ranged weapons; although they all play similarly, I mostly used the Bolter and Melta Gun, which was sufficient. Entering the universe this way made me feel like I was playing the story right from the middle without knowing what happened before or after. Still, focusing solely on the game's story, I can say it's an average-quality piece of work.
Score for those who don’t want to read till the end: 7/10

1- Introduction and Expectations:
I hadn't played a story-driven game for a while and was looking for one. Seeing multiple Warhammer 40k games in my account, I wanted to give this universe a shot. Since I wasn't in the mood for a strategy game, I decided to start with Space Marine, the only TPS shooter in my library. I have zero knowledge of the Warhammer 40k universe and I'm not sure if it's a good entry point, but I'm jumping straight into this universe from here.
2- Gameplay | 6.5/10
I think the game's gameplay fit the theme and the universe well. Bloody and brutal execution moves, enemies often sent in large numbers, some challenging enemy types, the Fury ability, and weapons reflect the theme and universe atmosphere well. Despite this, right from the start, we play generally the same way using weapons fitted into 4 slots, 2 of which are interchangeable. Aside from 1-2 situational cases, I only used the Bolter and Melta Gun. Melee combat isn't quite satisfying either; every weapon's combo does almost the same thing, essentially being a single combo. It could have had better gameplay, but because it offered visceral action, it kept me satisfied overall for 8 hours. If it were 2-3 hours longer, it definitely would have gotten boring. The Jump Pack sequences were more fun compared to the rest.
3- Story and Atmosphere | Story: 7.5/10, Atmosphere: 7/10
I'm not familiar with the Warhammer 40k universe. I don't know who is who, why they are fighting, or why everyone looks like half-robot soldiers, but for this game specifically, there was a slightly cliché yet good story. While fighting the Orks, we suddenly saw that they weren't the real enemy, that there were people we couldn't trust even among ourselves, and we encountered Chaos. The narrative delivery wasn't bad either. I didn't listen to the Servo-Skulls found throughout the game, so I won't comment on them. As for the atmosphere, it reflected the state of the universe well; interior spaces were somewhat repetitive, and similarly, the battlefields weren't quite epic enough. I expected more epic scenes and a grander arena, especially for the final battle. Still, I can say it had an above-average atmosphere.
4- Pros and Cons
Pros: + If you are interested in the Warhammer 40k universe, this will keep that interest alive + Captain Titus seems like a good guy Cons: - Bland gameplay - Slightly cliché story - Atmosphere
5- Replayability and Recommendation
The game has very low replay value, so I don't think I will be returning to it. Also, the multiplayer achievements stand in the way of getting a 100% achievement completion, which is another reason preventing replay. I recommend the game because it serves as a good entry point for Space Marine 2; it's short and has a small file size. For someone who plays 3-4 hours a day, it's a game that can be finished in 2 days. Even if it's not a top-tier title in terms of quality, it deserves a chance.
Score
Since this is my first time experiencing the universe and it contains story elements on equal footing with the gameplay, I will rate everything equally. My score: 7/10

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is a great game despite its age. I ended up going for this version rather than Master Crafted based on reviews of MC highlighting bugs and crashes, whilst Anniversary Edition doesn't look as good but runs well. It was also only ~5 USD on a sale. Warhammer 40k is extremely lore heavy and this game does a good job of giving you a taster of the grimdark setting. Also, the Orks are such great antagonists in WH40k. The story is serviceable rather than inspired, but it's a shooter not an RPG. The environments look great, but the character models do show their age. Not a big issue for me. There isn't a huge selection of weapons, but they all have a purpose and they are satisfying to use. The game also does a fantastic job of making you feel like a huge, cumbersome, powerful Space Marine. The combat is equally split between melee and ranged, with healing being granted on execution melee moves and via the Fury mode. It works quite well and you need to do it often as Titus is surprisingly squishy after the first few chapters. The controls are mostly fluid but I did find the execution moves to be a little clunky at times. The biggest fun is with the jetpack and the OP ground pounding move that goes with it. Enemies start off very weak, but significantly increase their threat to you when they get decent ranged weapons. Switching off for a few seconds or going into a situation recklessly will see your armour and health quickly evaporate. Late game enemies, even trash mobs, will end you very quickly if you allow them to focus fire you down. Overall, level design is great. There are options to use the environment to your advantage at all times. There is one slightly crappy section when you have to deal with a bunch of automated turrets; it's not particularly difficult, just not as fun as the rest of the game. I felt the game was very well balanced for the average player (like me!) on Normal difficulty. An easy game to recommend. The only big downsides to consider are a short SP campaign and difficulties in finding players for MP if you're into that.
O jogo entrega uma excelente experiência para fãs de tiro e combate corpo a corpo. Com uma lore rica e complexa inserida em um universo praticamente infinito, ele nos presenteia com uma fascinante amostra da sua verdadeira imensidão.
