Wargame Construction Set III: Age of Rifles 1846-1905

I played the heck out of this game when it first came out and thank the developer for making it easily playable. Now...if it was to be updated to modern standards instead of just "emulated," I'd be much happier...

Age of Rifles and Xcom were my go to games for MANY years and it is nice to add this to my Steam library. It is still very playable, and there isn't a whole lot out there like it. If for some reason you missed this in the 90's or have a tolerance for old games, give it a shot, especially if you have any interest in the time period. Or don't, because the developer is a jerk. Do what you want.

I'm an old wargamer and played the heck out of this back in the day. Just played the Franco-Prussian scenario. Still a lot of fun. Is there a way to increase the size of the DOS window? The window is pretty small on my giant screen.

I played this incredible game the thick end of 30 years ago on a 14 inch big bottomed screen and Dos.And loved it... but something you have to be aware of is that it looks bloody terrible. It wasn't pretty even on Dos .Tactically its brilliant,pulling a right flanking on it does not worry the AI even slightly,it cheats a bit I suspect, the music is grand, the data on what's happening in your battle is voluminous---you can read every word or none that's your choice ....An ugly game but very clever.Special thanks to the person who knew to hit Alt -Enter and that makes the game very playable as it fills a modern 21 inch curved screen.A great range of scraps , cheap.fine music ,clever , absolutely worth buying..

I decided to buy this when it received a glowing review in The General. This was back when high street stores sold PC games on CD. I'm that old. But the one copy on offer was ganked before I saved enough pocket money. It's still great 30 years later. Thanks for making it available.

Pure nostalgia. Like Panzer General old version in the Age of Rifles. The Editor allows easy scenario and campaign building. Weapons include basic muskets, so user made scenarios from Napoleonic Wars or 1864 Schleswig are possible to create. The graphics are dated. Imagine Hex Wars with actual good game-play but with old school graphics. And remember to press Alt-Enter to maximize DosBox window after loading.

Could not get game to play. I helped develop this game. Not happy.

An old game with dated graphics, yet game-play remains particularly good. Also, there are plenty of battles included that aren't covered by other wargames.

Hours of grognard action!

Laid the groundwork for so many future games to come and incredibly accurate when it comes to unit placement in battles.
