Shallow game with poor interface and controls. Plays like a mobile game.
Fun game if you played Advance Wars as a kid, but M09 won't unlock for me even though I've beaten M08 and MX03. Since I can only play 11 of 50 story missions and can't progress I'm not happy.
if this game was anymore like advance wars, nintendo would be filing a copyright claim against it
Do you know the feeling when someone gives you a luxuriously wrapped gift? And you find just a frog inside it !! This feeling will make you feel in this game its look good and cute but realy bad control and game play Do you imagine that it is possible to play difficult to control and it needs a mouse!!! On the first impression Too much, much, much, much, much, much of the text, which confuses the gameplay and annoys There is no way to play the game when you move the mouse You don't know what to press to buy weapons from buildings, you don't know how to attack All you see is the wait button or the end of the turn The exit button ( ESc) does not work on the keyboard. You have to look where the qiut button is In the action, the screen moves in a funny way, and the text writes a thousand words The only interesting thing about the game is the movement of the soldiers and the killing because it is more difficult to control The game will move quickly until you die or are defeated. The text stops and the movement becomes normal What a loss the game would have been nicer if it had been beautifully explained with a wonderful introduction With very little text and more gameplay I wish that game was an American game Or English so we know how to play with it Now I have to go to the sites and YouTube so I know how to find the button to fight and hunt houses. Wish me luck The price is very exaggerated. Do not buy it unless the discount reaches 80%. It is not worth it
Tiny Metal is a wonderful "Wars-inspired" title with emphasis on pincer tactics. The game encourage the player minimizing losses – as units rank up the more enemies they take down, along with giving you points for repairing them. The fact units have different amount of physical soldiers/tanks/planes/helicopters in each unit type squad (and special units vary from normal ones), really make you think about how to maximize damage output and capture by maintaining the health of units above certain threshold. Many campaign maps are huge and makes the lack of worry about fuel and ammo logistics a true blessing, as otherwise it would made certain levels quite a nightmare to maintain air presence on (due to how few airports there are and is no APC's to refuel from). The lack of APC's in general makes the player truly appreciate your soldier units, as losing them reduce your ability to capture properties were needed. Assault command that let units push opponent units off buildings is probably the most appreciated mechanic I ever seen in a Wars-inspired game. It add an extra element of tactics as it can be used to extend your units movement with 1 more tile at cost of letting your opponent first strike – allowing you to block choke-points along with denying poorly defended factories the ability to build, allowing for easier routing of the enemy. The music and visuals are a true treat to the eyes and ears, and it's obvious it's creators poured their hearts into it.~ The game have a bit heavy use of bloom and blur however, but thankfully it can be disabled to run better on lower end machines. The campaign is only 19 main missions + 4 MX ones, but the length and joy of finding all labs for log entries in Metalpedia and special merc units to call in with Comm-link (GameBoy Wars 3 style) add so much replay value. The campaign also have a new game+ mode with higher difficulty and there is 61 skirmish maps (you can't pick CO's however, they are pre-assigned per skirmish mission) for more gameplay. Multiplayer is 1-on-1 with 11 maps to play with a friend, but I haven't had a chance to test it out while writing this review. Overall Tiny Metal is a fantastic strategy game in the genre and a must play.~ It runs perfect on Linux with GE-Proton10-12 thanks to being an Unreal engine title, and I'm sure it runs just as well under Proton Experimental.
I’m really enjoying this game on my Steam Deck, but level 14 keeps crashing and won’t run. I only get the wheel turning in the lower right corner and then everything freezes up. Tried uninstalling and then reinstalling it and playing through it all over again. Would like some help if it’s possible.
Neutral leaning positive. And really? That base price? Wait for a sale and grab it at 75% off like I did. What's with this Activision-ass pricing? Tiny Metal is a decent game. It's not going to blow your mind, but if you're into Advance Wars then you owe it to yourself to give it a whirl. It is almost brilliant, but has lots of tiny mistakes that add up. You know how idiots like to say that graphics don't matter? Yeah well they do. If I have to lean into the screen (even on a 27” desktop) to make out if a unit is carrying a rocket launcher or a rifle, or if an armoured unit has a machine gun or a cannon on top, the graphics aren't doing their job. When a unit goes into a city or forest tile, they appear ON TOP of the city/forest instead of inside them, which is just plain lazy and messes with your perception of which tile the unit is on. It speaks volumes about how the delightfully simple 2D graphics of Advance Wars really did their job. There are no carry units like APCs and no naval combat. Repairing damaged units is a faff and you can't merge two units together like in Advance Wars, meaning that you usually end up with a load of useless tile-hoggers at 16% health. One omission from AW that I do like is the absence of CO powers, which kinda broke those games a bit. The audio is fine, I guess. The music can get a bit repetitive once you’re playing on bigger maps, but that’s what your own music collection is for. The groundwork here is competent though, from a mechanical standpoint. Although Tiny Metal takes one or two steps back mechanically from Advance Wars, it takes one forward in another direction by introducing some new concepts such as combo lock-on combat with multiple units and an "assault" which force an enemy unit off the tile that it's occupying. It's a fun game so I'll power through, as apparently the sequel fixes a lot of the issues with this game, and the story is interesting. It's just such a shame, because if a little more thought (not effort) went into how the game looks, this would be solid. Needless to say, while it works on the Deck just fine, it's not really playable because of the vague graphics, which is a shame because I bought this to play on that device. Maybe on the OLED Deck with the slightly larger screen it's better, but I don't have that. (I do now, and it's fine on OLED. Forget about it on LCD.)
I was hoping for at least a decent approximation of Advance Wars, I got a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ insult to the memory of Advance Wars.
Pretty fun turn based strategy game involving military units. Would recommend to anyone who likes this genre.
