Brilliant game and what a surprise release! I had this on iOS back in the day and loved it. Very glad to be able to play it again on a big screen with more features. Looking forward to playing the Android version too! Gameplay-wise, this is very similar to Advance Wars. It's simple to pick up and play, with wonderful graphics and catchy music. The map-maker is a nice touch too. Overall, I hope this game sells really well as it is quite the gem. Also, it works on Linux with Proton without any issues. Very awesome!
Plays just like the iOS game, the updated graphics are nice. There are a few QoL features that are missing currently, but I am confident they will eventually be worked out (examples) You should be able to click on your HQ to use a power even when you have your own unit on it. I can kind of understand it for an enemy unit, but it does not make sense for this to still be the case for your own unit. some kind of way to view the enemy's funds would be helpful (the same sort of way that you see it during their turn) it would also be helpful to see incomes of yourself and others. again, these are all QoL, overall it is still the same game
Fantastic successor to Advance Wars. Doesn't revolutionize or totally innovate the formula, but instead makes some tweaks and executes on it in clean, appealing, satisfying fashion. + Readable, colorful, attractive art style + No obnoxious battle scenes, just clean on-map damage animations + No naval warfare + New ranged infantry + Scout car replacement can travel over shallow water + Costs and stats adjusted across the board + Combine same-type units to repair their damage + All sorts of city variants that give money in differing ways + Content variety with campaign, challenges, and a selection of maps + Local multiplayer! + Runs on a toaster ~ Powers are universal, cost different amounts of "energy", and all players can choose one power per turn from a big list. - Account required on their service for online multiplayer - A couple small UI/UX quibbles. Any easy recommend for Advance Wars fans!
This game is great! It's a little strategy simulator. You can play against other players or in a campaign. I think I saw a way to create your own maps too. The design is great, there is good variety in units and it's funny. Highly recommend this if you enjoy turn based strategy games! Works on linux with proton too.
Its banging, got me in that classic Advance Wars trance, it would be nice if there was more keyboard shortcuts.
This game is very similar, but not exact, to the original. I'll start with the problems that I have with the game. First off, the campaign is a shell of it's former self. It used to be fun, where it started off with arguments over whether tomatoes were fruits and led to everyone teaming up in the final zone against the big bad (not going to spoil too much if I can help it). Now the campaign just has you fight against everyone and then take on the big bad with no additional teams. It lost it's sense of Self, so to say. Another problem is with the side missions and "challenges". They basically just act as another tutorial for the game, making it redundant. The last thing that I will say that I find as a negative for the game is that the multiplayer scene (arguably the highlight of the game) is lacking in certain areas. While there is an area where you can see the top players wins of the month and the best play of the day, there is other things that would add to the multiplayer scene that would improve interaction with players. Having something as simple as a score system that goes up the more you win and down the more you lose would give players a reason to really care about the leaderboards. Also, the maps and gamemodes are way less than what we had back on the original game. Now we have only three modes: Fog of War, Standard, and Brawl. Having added modes, such as a timer mode where you have to make your moves in 5-10 minutes so that the games are fast paced and frantic, 3 and 4 player FFAs, 2 on 2 matches, or even a mode that just simply turns off HQ powers (btw you can't turn off HQ powers in any of the three existing modes, more limiting the possibilities). And in terms of maps, we only have five maps for each gamemode, and most of them are rather small. Ethereal Highway is my favorite map simply because it's the bigger map in two of the modes, where most of the other maps barely give room for large armies to battle. Now that I've gotten the negatives out of the way, let's look at some positives. The gameplay is still as fun and strategic as ever, still having it's roots from what Advance Wars introduced us to. The Carrier unit is as broken as ever. They also did add new things, such as new property types, that change how the gameplay works a bit. Some of the powerups from the HQ were also slightly modified. I personally like most of the new additions that differentiate it from the original. So overall I'd say the game is good, but needs a lot more polish before it can really start to stand up. I'd say that what this game could use, mainly, is more multiplayer modes, more multiplayer maps, perhaps some better balancing for certain things (the fighter needs to be brought back to it's original version, it's current type just sucks), better customizability for multiplayer matches, the ability to see what rules and map would be in play on a match before you accept it, allowing the community to make and submit custom maps to be used in general online multiplayer, and I think the game would be more enjoyable overall. If I were to rate this game on a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 6, compared to the original which I would give a 9. It is a good game, which carries over the standard formula, but it falls behind compared to the original game. With some minor overhauls and some additions, such as what I mentioned before, the game could get a lot better and rise to the stage with beaming lights to greet it. I hope to see the game get better and get more attention as it is a great modern take of the Advance Wars style gameplay that many people still enjoy.
If you're a fan of Advance Wars and tactical turn-based games you'll love Warbits! The art style and animation is really fun, entertaining writing and good progression on the campaign. I've played it before on iOS and it's great to revisit on this Steam update. I'm playing on Steam Deck and it works well, I tweaked the controls a bit so I could use the left joystick to select units rather than move the camera, after that change I was happy!
Apparently this has been on iOS for years, but it was new to me. It's a charming game with a moderately challenging campaign. Most missions were easy but a couple were head scratchers for a while. It's very much in a familiar vein but good fun nonetheless, about 12 hours of gameplay just to complete the 20 mission campaign.
A charming turn based strategy game reminiscent of the early 2000s. It really has me all caught up in a reverie. Takes me away to where I've always heard it could be, you know?
Fun strategy game with a cute art style.
