Alpha & Beta-testeur.
Inspired by some platform classics, vridniX is a very dynamic runner, available in several languages (french, english, german and chinese), developped by a new french team, Uncanaut. With an high quality soundtrack, and dialogues tinged with humor, vridniX bring a fresh breeze in the platform game universe. It will please the challenge seekers, and the platformers fans, and put their patience to the test. If you're looking for some skill-asking games, vridniX might be what you whant!
Fun packed platformer, the gameplay is great and you will play levels after levels with the time flying by. The story and the musics are very cool, and some of the puzzles will actually make you think more than you planned too. 11/11, had fun, would buy again
I'll try be as unbiased but as one can see I got it for free so take it with a grain of salt. The game is a platformer with a twist that once you start running, you can't stop. It's like a child of super meat boy and there is no pause button. Can't stop and you learn through death. So I'll start of with the overall positives: - Simple controls. Change direction and jump. 2-3 buttons (since R1 on my controller toggles direction while the D-Pad turns the protagonist in direction pressed). And it has controller support, I love games that has that. - Game is polished (in fact it was running around 160-240FPS for most of the time), with no spontaneous crashes. Only time there was noticeable lag was after I finished and was just doing some runs for fun. - It has skippable cutscenes. For those who want to go through the story can, but those who want to keep up with the fast paced course of the game also can just button mash through it and keep running. - Multiple approaches to a single problem. Some routes have a brute force approach (like you would normally) and a sneakier and possibly faster path. - Timer and death counter. Especially for speedrunning, having an in-game timer is a god send. Now that I've touched on why I like it, the cons: - Controls feel unresponsive at times. May just be because of my positioning in-game but just get the feeling that not all my presses register at crucial moments, or register when they shouldn't (had a spot towards the end where I felt like the mid-air jump would sometimes happen and sometimes not). - Story. This one is bittersweet because a great attempt was made. But since I played the game in a more speedrunning way, I felt the dialogue was more intrusive than beneficial to the gameplay. Especially since there is dialogue while playing, it's hard to read and jump around at the same time which was mildly frustrating. I won't ruin the story but I'll say that I get the feeling that you're meant to emphasize with the protagonist but if anything that maxed out around mid-game and everything thereafter was me hoping I get what I deserve. - The menu. The in-game menu just seems a little lacking, nothing big. Like can't toggle death counter/timer whenever I want, nor can I set the volume. That one is only in the main menu. - The NPCs in the earlier levels. While the latter levels either throw the NPCs into the background or actually give them a use (which most of the time is kill you), the earlier ones just act as a nuisance that you have to make effort to avoid. Especially getting stuck between two is a different type of hell. And their speech bubbles have collision boxes. So all-in-all, I like it. Not usually a fan of games where you die and die, but this one I grew to enjoy after my first proper playthrough. Definitely would suggest if you're into the genre of platformers and hating yourself.
Although I'm not a big fan of platformers, I like to play games that have this unique, cool side to them (be it innovative gameplay, great story-telling, or peculiar artwork) but short enough so I dont get bored before finishing them. Vridnix is one of those games. It doesn't bother you with lengthy background information or complicated commands to remember, it just grabs you by the hand and makes you run through its crazy universe until the end, without letting you breathe. The levels themselves are varied and can be really challenging, sometimes (oh so) frustrating (again, not a big fan of platformers). But they are tied together by a captivating story with characters so refreshing you want to see what's next. And special mention goes to the music tracks that keep you running and wouldn't let you stop even if you could (well you can't). In short, a wild race in a wtf world with great atmosphere. A must-try !
vridniX is a fun rotating plat-former with a great/funny story. They have done a great job with nearly every aspect of this game and it comes across as very professional. The game play is really well laid out and fun to play, the story is entertaining and funny with well constructed characters, and the graphics have a pleasing style to them. The game play wasn't always easy but I didn't feel it was trying to be nasty to me either like games of this type often do. If your into platformers you'll love this one and if you don't you might want to give this one a try and see if it changes your mind.
