Voxel Tanks is a compact arcade shooter developed and published by PigeonDev that demonstrates how a simple concept can remain entertaining when executed with confidence. Built around top-down tank combat and presented through a clean voxel art style, the game wastes little time introducing players to its core objective: survive a succession of increasingly dangerous arenas while eliminating hostile tanks with precision and quick reactions. It embraces a straightforward design philosophy, offering an experience that feels inspired by classic arcade cabinets where gameplay depth comes from challenge rather than complexity. From the outset, Voxel Tanks establishes itself as a skill-driven title. Each arena serves as a test of movement, timing, and situational awareness, requiring players to adapt to enemy patterns and environmental layouts. The Steam description emphasizes dynamic combat, and the game delivers on that promise by maintaining a consistently brisk pace. Battles rarely overstay their welcome, making each victory satisfying and each defeat an invitation to try again. There is a distinct old-school mentality at work here, where memorization and practice gradually transform seemingly impossible encounters into manageable ones. The visual presentation is intentionally minimalist, relying on colorful voxel models that provide personality without overwhelming the player. Tanks, projectiles, and battlefield elements remain easy to read even during the most hectic moments, an important feature for a game that frequently fills the screen with enemy fire. While the graphics are modest by contemporary standards, they complement the gameplay effectively and contribute to the title's retro-inspired identity. The accompanying soundtrack further reinforces this atmosphere, using energetic electronic and chiptune influences to maintain momentum throughout each session. One of the game's more notable strengths is its accessibility in terms of session length. Voxel Tanks is easy to pick up for a few minutes at a time, making it well suited for players who enjoy arcade experiences that do not require a significant time investment. However, that same simplicity can become a limitation over extended play. There are no extensive progression mechanics, narrative elements, or customization systems to encourage long-term engagement. Players seeking unlockable abilities, cooperative play, or a broader range of content may find the package somewhat sparse after completing the available stages. The difficulty curve can also be divisive. Voxel Tanks does not shy away from demanding accuracy and patience, especially as enemy encounters become more aggressive. For enthusiasts of challenging arcade shooters, this approach is likely to be viewed as a positive. Others may find the lack of forgiveness frustrating, particularly since success depends heavily on mastering movement patterns and maintaining focus throughout each encounter. Nevertheless, the game remains fair in its design, rewarding persistence rather than relying on artificial obstacles. Ultimately, Voxel Tanks succeeds because it understands its audience. It is a focused indie project that prioritizes responsive controls, engaging combat, and a nostalgic atmosphere over expansive features. Although its limited scope prevents it from becoming a standout classic within the genre, it offers enough charm and challenge to justify its place among smaller independent releases on Steam. Players with an appreciation for retro arcade action and difficult top-down shooters will likely find plenty to enjoy in its concise but polished experience. Rating: 7/10

Anyway, this game is good for its price, but: 1. No gamepad support :( 2. Very slow interface 3. Very easy bosses, which have simpliest AI 4. All levels openned
Gameplay seems a bit unfair and for that reason I do not recommend.
polecam!
