«Voxel Interceptor»
Shoot 'em up + Multidirectional Scrolling Shooter + Tower Defense.
P. S. [for developer]:
I thank you for this opportunity me to assess your game. "Voxel Interceptor" is a wonderful game are worthy of attention of players, but there is very little information about it. I think you can give a good discount for a short time or coupons to attract the attention of the players.
I have amended my review after the dev made most of the changes I requested, you can see my original review below Pause Menu added Quicker Hanger More resources This is what the game needed, and it is much better for it. For the price I can now recommend it! _____________________________________________________________________________ This game seemed interesting however no reviews and not many players so thought I would pick it up in the sale! It’s basically a tower defense game mixed with a space shoot em up, and I was impressed with the number of updates the developer is doing as well! Shows he cares However, there is only a decent core game here it needs some work to take it above that level and get people playing. The main screen has spelling mistakes which is never a good start, however these are things which can be changed easily. The gameplay isn't bad, with some nice graphics and pumping music. I also quite like the progression system however it is permadeath. However, the list of things I feel need to change are: The game needs a pause title as when you load up you are presented with a ship screen then you are instantly attacked, I think once you enter the hanger the game should pause. Also the hanger has about 6 doors which need to close, you get a few seconds between waves and you just don't get the time to repair and upgrade. The Auto dock is terrible the area needs to be bigger to dock too or something too, the auto docking procedure takes AGES!!! It should be a quick fly by and land and back into the battle. Pause menu for building defenses too as you have to awkwardly fly over the area which is difficult and again in battle just silly. The controls are a little fiddly, with S being the slow down button but it doesn't reverse so most the time you just have to plow into enemies. Difficultly and costs of items need lowered, like you destroy a "Boss" and get a few materials like the amount of time it takes you should get something better! So, either lowered or the enemies drop more loot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIIlAobgi4&feature=youtu.be

Voxel Interceptor is a very unusual beast, it's a blend of tower defense meets SpaceWar! ripoff. What impressed me is there's a reasonable and welcome level of depth to the game design, from different ships, different movement models, different guns and so on. Unfortunately all of this effort seems to have been wasted on a very poor quality technical implementation and some of the most frustrating vehicle handling I've been offended by in a game. One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon voxel "Minecraft"-like "art", making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. A lot of amateur developers see Minecraft's success and assume it's because it looks bad, not because it had unique and appealing game mechanics, and they try to emulate the success without understanding it. It also happens to be easy, and doesn't need any proper talent in terms of game development/graphic artists etc. That's why reviewers are faced with so many of these terrible games with confrontingly bad graphics. Developers must learn that Minecraft succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Voxel Interceptor is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 14,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Voxel Interceptor, developed and published by NewAtlantisGameStudio, is a compact arcade-style space shooter that commits fully to a minimalist design philosophy. It strips away narrative, complex systems, and layered mechanics in favor of a focused gameplay loop centered on piloting a small interceptor ship and defending a larger carrier from waves of incoming threats. From the outset, it makes no attempt to disguise its simplicity—this is a game built around repetition, precision, and gradual improvement rather than expansive content or evolving systems. The core gameplay revolves around maneuvering through open space while engaging enemy ships and protecting the carrier at all costs. Players are constantly balancing offense and survival, choosing when to engage aggressively and when to retreat to the carrier for repairs and resupply. This docking mechanic introduces a subtle layer of decision-making, as staying in the fight too long can lead to destruction, while retreating too often can leave the carrier vulnerable. The loop is easy to understand, and its clarity makes it immediately accessible, even if it does not offer much complexity beneath the surface. Combat is straightforward, relying on positioning, timing, and weapon selection. Players have access to different types of weapons that vary in effectiveness against shields or armor, which adds a light tactical element. However, these distinctions do not significantly alter the overall experience, as encounters tend to follow similar patterns. Enemy behavior is predictable, and while this allows players to develop strategies, it also contributes to a sense of repetition over time. The game rewards consistency and awareness rather than experimentation or creative problem-solving. Progression is handled through a system of upgrades that enhance both the interceptor and the carrier. As players earn resources, they can improve their ship’s capabilities, unlock new options, and strengthen defenses. These upgrades provide a sense of advancement, but they are largely incremental, offering small improvements rather than introducing new mechanics or playstyles. The core gameplay remains largely unchanged throughout, meaning that progression feels more like refinement than transformation. One of the more distinctive aspects of Voxel Interceptor is its control scheme, which differs from the more common twin-stick shooter approach. Movement can feel unusual at first, requiring players to adjust to its handling and develop a sense of control over their ship’s momentum. For some, this learning curve adds a layer of depth and satisfaction, as mastering the controls becomes part of the challenge. For others, it may feel unintuitive, creating an initial barrier that can affect early impressions of the game. Visually, the game adopts a clean voxel-based style that emphasizes clarity over detail. The environments are uncluttered, making it easy to track enemies, projectiles, and objectives during combat. While the aesthetic is simple, it is consistent and functional, supporting the gameplay without distraction. The lack of visual complexity aligns with the game’s overall design, reinforcing its focus on mechanics rather than presentation. The audio design follows a similarly restrained approach, with basic sound effects and minimal music that serve to support the action without standing out. While it contributes to the atmosphere, it does little to enhance the experience in a memorable way. The sound design is adequate but not a defining feature, remaining firmly in the background. The pacing is steady but highly repetitive, as the game introduces few new elements over time. The cycle of defending the carrier, upgrading equipment, and repeating encounters remains largely unchanged from beginning to end. This can be appealing for players who enjoy arcade-style gameplay and incremental progression, as it creates a consistent and predictable experience. However, for those seeking variety or evolving mechanics, the lack of change may limit long-term engagement. Ultimately, Voxel Interceptor is a focused and minimalist shooter that delivers a clear and consistent gameplay loop without attempting to expand beyond its core idea. It offers a modest but functional experience that rewards persistence and familiarity with its systems. While it does not stand out in terms of innovation or depth, it succeeds in providing a straightforward challenge for players who appreciate simple, arcade-driven design. Rating: 6/10
