About

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire is an action-farming-roguelite set in Transylvania, the homeland of Dracula and his rebellious lastborn son, Voltaire. An epiphany results in a change of heart for the young vampire: abandoning blood in favor of a plant-based diet out of spite to prove to his father that neck-biting is not the only way for vampires to thrive.
The Elder Vampire doesn't take kindly to such ideas, but with the help of uncle(s) Frank and Stein, Voltaire slips away from his father’s gaze. Once on his own, he embarks on a creepy, cute odyssey full of veggie recipes, a plant-based lifestyle, and hand-drawn art celebrating the gloriously macabre!

Farm during the day with magical seeds to cultivate crops and provide Voltaire with sweet nourishment in his quest to become the world's first vegan vampire!
Expand the farm and territory and conquer numerous biomes on Voltaire’s path to chlorophyll-based power.
Be wary once night begins to fall. Dracula will send his minions to ruin Voltaire’s crops and make him return to a “proper,” red-blooded diet.

Defend the crops against Dracula’s army of ghoulish minions, hell-bent on denying Voltaire his hard-earned oatmeal shake.
Embrace vampiric dark powers to defeat the bosses sent by Dracula when his lesser minions fail.
Overcome Dracula’s power and inherit his reign through much greener means.

Evolve Voltaire into higher vampiric forms thanks to his dietary plan filled with many new abilities.
Complete bounties for uncle(s) Frank and Stein, while defeating Transylvania's mythical creatures and reap the rewards to continue sowing.
Prevail over every metaphorical pickle Voltaire may find himself in or risk the temptation of his bloodlust munching on a neck or two.
Don't sweat it. There is always a chance to try dieting again, this time with new knowledge and abilities!

I'd love to recommend this, because visually it's great - but it's just... not good. The concept is great, but the flow doesn't work. You're stuck managing hunger while managing tower defense at night and it's just... not fun. Give it a go if you like being stressed and starting over and over again, but for me it quickly lost any appeal.
I don't think I've felt more torn over a game than I have with The Vegan Vampire. Pros: The concept is charming and the graphics are cute. I thought that uncles Frank and Stein had funny dialogue and the quests they put out for you are simple enough to get done. As a beginner's tower defense game, this game shines. There is a skill tree you can reset if your house is destroyed (the game's version of game over) and you can mess around with different perks as needed for optimal defense. As a generally cozy gamer, I haven't button mashed this much since playing Mortal Combat with my brother. For more experienced hash and slash players, this game might be too simple with not enough combat variation. Cons: The farming in this game is not great. It costs energy points to forage the crops, plant the crops, water the crops. Which is generally fine except that none of the crops really grow fast enough for you to benefit from them. You become hungry so fast that it is already night and if you have crops growing and haven't activated the tower in the middle of the plot, the enemies will decimate all your crops before targeting your house. That all said I was enjoying it once I knew it was in for until my game glitched. I have defeated the sandrhino twice and as soon as the sun rises and the portal appears, my game freezes and I can't move my character. Then it unfreezes, my house gets destroyed and I'm brought back to the beginning of the week. This has happened twice and I just don't want to make the effort of trying a third time. I assume this is a glitch because I don't see any enemies attacking my house/I get the "the sun begins to rise" prompt. I think if you get this on sale and don't have my glitch, I would definitely recommend. Just don't expect it to be a farming sim you'll recognize if you are looking at it because of the cute graphics.
TLDR: Excellent concept, but desperately needed difficulty scaling/management. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're big on strategy games. The tutorial makes it seem easier than it is and will rob you of a refund. Pros: Good concept, cute art, mechanics are easily understandable. It feels like an interesting story but I wouldn't know for sure as I couldn't even come close to beating the story mode. Cons: Difficulty scales up absurdly fast. Couldn't even get past week 3 day 2 in the "basic" Story Mode. It feels like you're punished harshly for not investing your soulstones "correctly" (apparently in house HP, because I lost no fewer than 8 times due to the house being destroyed), and for not perfectly addressing enemies in the "right" order. Plants die absurdly fast, enemies move like greased lightning, and the number of enemies becomes utterly overwhelming pretty much right out of the gate once you leave the "tutorial" area. Recommendations: Difficulty modification/scaling. For the love of cheese and rice. Be able to configure how many enemies, how fast, enemy HP/attack, or hell, just an "easy" mode, because this cute little game is punishingly hard as-is. Legitimately, don't make a cutesy-looking "cozy" game then make it this intolerably difficult, but only after you've invested well over 2 hours into it and can't get a refund. It isn't right or fair.
I am really upset as the game completely glitched and gave me "Yeetus" boss on week 2? I defeated him twice and it just kept giving me more enemies to defeat and wouldn't end. I can't play past that part anymore, so the game is unplayable. Steam would not give me a refund.
Its a charming little game thats a lot of fun! You plant your farm during the day, and defend it at night, and its just got so many little details from the sounds enemies and water makes to the fact your uncles write you quests with jokes in them to make it charming, and its pretty short to do a straight run through. It took me 14 hours on normal mode and some of that 14 was me just taking my time.
