As someone who’s read the light novels and watched all the anime, I went in hoping for more. Even $28 I paid for the Deluxe Edition feels a little overpriced for what’s here. Still, the game isn’t bad—it’s stable, not buggy, and works fine as a casual time‑waster when you just want to hang out in the Jura forest and Rimuru City. Just don’t expect depth or meaningful gameplay. It's more like a mobile game made for Steam. • Graphics: ★★★☆☆ – Functional but feels dated • Gameplay: ★★☆☆☆ – Simple, repetitive, light on depth • Story / Fan Service: ★★★☆☆ – Fun to see Tempest, but thin overall • Performance: ★★★★☆ – Smooth, no issues • Value: ★★☆☆☆ – Price doesn’t match content • Overall: ★★★☆☆ – A lightweight fan experience, not a standout game
This is a tasteless joke. The game simply feels cheap. I’m disgusted that one of the strongest isekai franchises has been treated like this. But from the beginning: The storytelling starts with a mix of anime screenshots and gameplay. Artistically, it tries to be cohesive — but unfortunately, it only tries. We get static 2D images, character models during gameplay, and separate character models in cutscenes. In the end, it feels like we received a mobile game — and a very cheap one at that. We relive Rimuru’s story starting from the creation of the first settlement in Jura Tempest. This is occasionally interrupted by additional activities, but fundamentally we cannot influence the course of the narrative. The character voices are, of course, accurate. The problem is that we didn’t get new recordings — only the audio taken directly from the anime. This wouldn’t be bad if not for the fact that during dialogue scenes, character faces are statically facing the player, and all the emotions that are animated in the anime here look stiff and almost caricature-like. No one bothered to properly animate the faces. Character models are a separate issue. I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to create two types of models: one set used in gameplay and another used in cutscenes. While the latter look genuinely very good, the former look like some kind of (probably) chibi monstrosities. Who scaled the characters’ heads? Why does Rimuru look like he has hydrocephalus?! On top of that, the heads often have a different skin tone than the rest of the body, as if the body model were a completely separate asset. Gameplay can be divided into two segments — at least within the first two hours. Running around Tempest in an isometric view, and moving through closed corridor-like locations in a 2D perspective. In the first, we mostly collect quests from characters, talk to them, etc. In the second, we fight enemies. And that combat is… very, very unsatisfying. For one, during fights the AI of our companions can bug out and stand at the edge of the map not knowing what to do (enemies suffer from this too). Combat can become extremely unreadable and even freeze during special attacks. Moreover, switching characters mid-fight is not as smooth as one would expect. It feels like someone wanted to create a very dynamic brawler, but what we got is… this. Each character has three attacks: basic, special, and secret — all fully voiced. In theory, that’s great — in practice, listening to Rimuru shout his skill name over and over again quickly becomes exhausting. Unfortunately, the game carries a strong sense of cheapness: we have a popular franchise, yet the gameplay isn’t enjoyable. I don’t know if I’ll finish it. There isn’t a shred of immersion, the corridor design and repetition are painful, and the narrative falters. 3/10

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I can only recommend people to buy this if you're a fan, even then it's not a good game. Get it on sale if you really must. The gameplay is incredible repetitive, it's grindy and long. Gameplay is, for a lack of a better word, functional. I can recommend this if you like beat-em ups, I suppose.
The base games story abridges the main plot with Rimuru often narrating/summarizing events that happened. It goes up to the Demon Lord Awakening Arc which is about up to the first half of season 2. The OC characters and story added just for this game is ok and they are just there when the main story happens as it does originally. One grave sin it has is having no History/Text Log, in the medium of being a text heavy anime game. Gameplay is very simple and not difficult; issues I had were combos breaking/dropping and enemies inevitably being carried to the screen edges and having terrible hitboxes due to their varying sizes. The ai companions also tend to stand around a lot and take a while for them to join in the combat which made the final boss horrendous. The side quests while nice and added screentime to characters that were glossed over in the anime; however quests cannot be stacked with each other or the main quest which dragged the playtime. The town building was simple and ok. An issue I had was not being able to swap building which each other; you would have to tear them down and waste more resources to rebuild them where you wanted. I also wish there was fast traveling/ teleporting to places within town. You also receive Diablo way too late which was lame. I did not buy the DLC but very disappointing that the DLC was just not already in the base game. Wait for a sale if you really care.
Obviously, the game is not worth its full price, but if you get it at a very good discount, it's a pretty decent game. In some places, the frames in the game are taken from anime and are in really terrible quality. But other than that, I think it's playable!
Can only recommend if you are a fan of the anime or light novels and you can get it on a heavy discount. Really such a mixed bag and is not worth the price tag at all. Played through on Steam Deck with no issues.
Super hard to track who you are playing as and when you swap.
