Was worried about the blockiness detracting from my enjoyment, but it works pretty well. Weapons & explosions sound great, and the effects do their job. People complain that the crew lifespan is too short.. and I agree. When travelling to the next system, they will level up and then almost immediately die afterwards. So now instead of a choice of crew members or resources as a reward, I always pick crew. "Traditions system – Decide which principles define the surviving Terran people." The traditions system are events that happen as you go, that add or subtract bonuses to your crew. For instance, Alien plants providing narcotics that improve focus (weapon damage) but reduce life span. Crew can have some useful abilities too. One guy gave 500 Sabotage - I pause, click an enemy part, un-pause, BAM! 500 damage. Choosing not to continue upon death is a flat restart - no fanfare, no story recap or salute to fallen travellers, it's just straight-up black screen, then main menu. Not even a "Game Over" message. Description says it supports modding, but there's no Workshop support, and the Modding channel in Discord hasn't been touched since 2020. The game folder is full of xml files, so the only 'modding' that can be done is changing numbers and texts, but no chance to add new graphics or do any serious coding. I uploaded a 'mod' that just changes the Lifespan to 100 and returns 100% on parts because they recycling parts EPIC MODDING Is it worth $12cdn? I paid -80%
Think Gratuitous Space Battle's graphical style/combat, with a sprinking of FTL, namely the sector-map, and text-based story and events. A decent array of ship parts lets you alter/rearrange and setup your ship (mostly) however you like, although you need to find or acquire the tech to build 'em first. Crew bonuses, penalties, and skills all change how you'll perform in combat, especially because there's no escaping the passage of time here, so don't expect to keep the same crew the whole game. Story's a little short, personally, but it's a lot of fun. It's the kind of thing I wished Gratuitous Space Battles had. While I understand the negative/overall 'Mixed' reviews, I don't really feel it deserves them. A lot of older reviews are 'outdated' or have had issues mentioned in them addressed. Sure, ain't perfect, and I'd personally love a 'lock mouse to window' option (kinda hurts clicking out of the game mid-combat [3 monitors -_-]). But for a solo dev, over a number of years? Lets just say I've paid a lot more, and played a lot worse, from much larger game developers. Well worth it, even at ~$10-15AUD.
I haven't played long, but long enough to know that I love this game. Stellaris story telling, SPAZ combat, and rogue-lite for replayability. It has what many rogue-lites I've played lack (for me). Addictiveness. Absolutely worth the cost. The storytelling is a big seller for me.
It's a ship-and-crew builder with some rogue-lite elements. Ship building and crew assigning is streamlined and the first few runs are interestings as you discover the various events and systems. Every run end the same but the way to get there is what differ. You're "the last real terran ship" but there's no big bad (or other system) on your trail so you can progress at your pace while the difficulty climb fairly slowly. The story is standard fare but the music track(s) manage to convey the rare "depressing but not actually depressing" feeling. The game flow: You're assigned a basic ship (3 or 4 block and expandable to 25) and three very random starting Crews which you use to traverse randomly generate block-based paths, full of factions ships and various kind of events. You gain ressources, technologies and perks based on those events and your reactions. As your crew get older and wiser they get better and eventually die from old age as the long travel time between system takes their toll. Perks that extend their live expectancy are thus particularly prized. As you realize events are not randomized you find out they can be exploited. A big system of the game, technologies, just stop in a complete black hole without the game so much as acknowledging it. At the worst there's a few glaring bugs like annoying sound issues of weapons that keep firing while they already sopped and here's some really broken stuff, like this one perk that allow you to just quickly farm money, or that teleport that doesn't have any kind of safeguard against moving out of the map boundaries. So the game has some rough edges but it's still very enjoyable.
Even though it is a relatively simple game and doesn't have a lot of variation in the 'exploration scenario's' or the combat, it still manages to keep me interested and wanting to play more.
Way too short. The game mechanics are shallow. Ship building is severely limited. This seems more like a demo than a full game.
I paid a bit over two dollars for this game and I think it is worth it. I just beat it on my third try with 4 ravager laser turrets and three mauler cannons. I will probably beat it at least two more times to try some different builds. Someone who paid 10 might be a bit disappointed, but it is definitely worth scooping up on sale. Edit at 22 hours... This game is really good. There are many hidden things that you can get through missions. I will admit, it is a bit annoying getting crew members who are literally named "undefined", but overall this game is solid. The early game is a bit slow, but late game is amazing if you get the right stuff.
Voidship really doesn't deserve the hate as it's definitely got potential. The game reminds me of Space Pirates and Zombies 2 and it seems to be a one-man project. It's also perfectly playable and there's enough content to keep you engaged for a few gaming sessions. What to expect:

Light RPG elements in the form of permanent bonuses and maluses during your journey based nn your choices.
Real-time control of a spaceship during battles with either the AI controlling the cannons and movement by mouse or you controlling the ship directly with WASD.
Each star system represents a number of encounters which mostly lead to battles, friendly space stations or random events
Crew members grow older as you travel towards your goal and will have to be replaced by newer generations
Ship building: 25 blocks maximum, somewhat free to choose its shape. Modules will be unlocked during your journey. Each weapon/system module takes up a block. There's 4 pages with about 8 modules each so there's plenty to experiment with.
All-in-all I am fairly amused by Voidship. It's difficult to find games like these and it does it rather well if you can look through its flaws. Losing modules, the way resources trickle in and being forced to kill your crew (old-age) by jumping star-systems with no replacements being present will mean you'll get RNG'ed at some point which always sucks when you've done a significant time investment.
