Well, so this is a "neutral" situation, in my opinion. First off, War Thunder desperately needs some competent competition. I was hoping this would be it, and who knows it may be some day. But today is not that day. That said War Thunder has had 15 years of development, so it's fair that this one doesn't come close. Also this one seems to have a small, or solo dev team. The game does a lot of things correct in my opinion, and others need work. So, for the things it does well. First the game is low in cost, and was even cheaper during the recent sale. Second, the game isn't terribly grindy. There definitely is SOME grind here, because stock aircraft aren't completing many missions. To me that's great as it's one of my biggest qualms with War Thunder. Further I'd say the tutorial in this game is pretty good, and I think it's cool that it rewards you with a free P-51C. The sound in this game is also very good in my opinion. From the explosions, to the different weapons, and aircraft engines, all were done well. I also like that the aircraft upgrades act as a sense of progression along with the multiple theaters with multiple missions. All very well done, and quite cool. Now for the bad. So, in different missions you will have wingmen, though they're not actually wingman because they're usually in inferior aircraft, and don't particularly care what you do. They are decently effective though. However, there are different missions where I felt very alone despite having other aircraft around because the enemy aircraft mostly seemed to go after me. So much so that they will alter their course if I get close enough when they were moments before heading into a head-on pass with a friendly aircraft. Additionally, on these missions I'm expected to be both CAP, and CAS. That doesn't make much sense to me. My aircraft would typically be configured to fulfill one, but not both of those roles. Further, having to dive to the deck to deal with AA, and then back up to 5000 ft to deal with 4 bad guys isn't ideal and again a situation where having wingmen, or even "a" wingman would be helpful. So I guess the AI, is my issue, or perhaps even design choices by the dev if these choices are intentional. Also, enemy pilots are flying their 109s like they're bi-planes. Second, the flight model needs some work. There's zero energy modeled in this game. In a P-51D if I'm at 10,000 ft, and I take it to the deck at a 30 degree angle, I do gain *SOME* speed, but nearly as much as one would expect. Further when I pull up, I don't lose energy. Almost none is lost. So, to this point I get that the game is listed as "semi-realistic", but regardless of that fact energy and energy retention should be modeled if possible. Different point, I'd love to see the game include more aircraft, and SOME day maybe even include Korea, or later conflicts. Maybe Vincemus II? In conclusion, the game IS worth $♥♥♥♥♥, and is absolutely worth it on sale. But as it is, I wouldn't expect too much overall, and it's certainly no War Thunder killer - at least not yet. Maybe it will be some day, or maybe that's not the devs intention. It'd be a recommend from me if some of these issues were addressed. Otherwise it's a neutral rating from me due to the frustrations the issues I listed bring about.
In a sea (or sky) of milsims, this game sticks out in the best of ways. Somewhere between realism and arcade, Vincemus allows users to fly fighters, attack, bombers, and tonk (you'll want to see this one) across different theaters of war in WWII. The controls are easy and intuitive, the gameplay is action packed and fun. There's air, land, and it looks like sea battles as well (haven't gotten here yet). The feeling of repelling an enemy attack on a friendly base in Africa was awesome, just when you think you're stomping the air to ground battle, enemy patrol planes come in to give you a run for your money. Progression for planes is done via "war thunder" type of upgrade tree but everything seems very obtainable. You don't have to wait any time, you just need funds to help you progress through the unlock trees which you get via playing missions. There's a bounty system too, so on top of the flat mission currency you get, how you impacted the battle and who you took out also gets you dollar bonuses at the end. This game seems highly promising in terms of replayability. There looks to be a custom mission editor, along with sandbox mode and survival. There's also some cool side missions that let you unlock real planes and meme planes to fly (see Tonk above. The UFO to end all UFOs). On top of all of this, the dev, Zer0, seems very active regarding this game. I had noticed a problem with the Steam Cloud saves which not even within 12 hours I received a reply back from the dev that they are looking to patch this problem in a future patch BUT also offered a workaround for me to enjoy my save on another system. To me, this game has it all: amazing content, replayability, FUN customization, and a dev who care's about their product and their end user's experience. For $15.00 USD out of sale, this game is incredibly worth every cent. Would highly recommend. Played on both Steam Deck and PC.
This game sucks to be honest. I tried to enjoy the game but its horrible. The AI planes just head straight towards you and crash into you a lot. The planes are overpriced. And the graphics are some of the worst I've ever seen. Needs another year to bake,
War Thunder at home. I love my home
devs forgot to include in the description that you must listen to ace combat/wingman ost while playing this
it's fun and the developer clearly cares alot. it is on the more basic side in terms of graphics but that doesnt mean its ugly; it is is not. that said, and to his credit he does state quite clearly this fact, it is designed primarily for M&K. You CAN use a joystick or gamepad, but you have to keybind and the game still feels like two kids whose parents are forcing them to play nice. Hopefully in the future, gamepad and/or joystick support comes more easily w/o a lot of tinkering. it is not a bad game and it is clearly in early access as i believe its the work of one, maybe two people. I might be getting my games confused on that regard to be fair and it was fun absolutely. Just know that if you dont like M&K controllers or want your joystick to work without fuss, youre gonna have to spend time binding and whatnot to find out if you can tolerate it. But its also $15. It's not fair to expect it to be DCS or IL2. And frankly, Steam gives these smaller dev teams, or in some/many instances, sole developer, an opportunity to work on their passion projects that sometimes we need to remember to be patient and see what they're cooking. This feels like a case of "let the man cook, and check back in every 6 months or so."
As a long-time fan of WWII flight sims and arcade games, having grown up playing titles including the likes of the B17 Flying Fortress games, Combat Flight Simulator, Air Warrior 2 and Warbirds, let alone some (in my opinion) all-time greats in the form of MicroProse's European Air War and the IL2 series, this game has great promise for and interest to me, given it's been many years now since I last played any WWII flight sim/arcade game worth my time, with the IL2 series being the last one, and that was about 12-14 years ago now. That being all said and done, my single biggest concern right now, after trying to play through just the 1st 2 tutorial missions, which has become a strong concern and which is solely keeping me from really getting into the game, is plain and simply the lack of any permanently saving and clearly intuitive option to toggle on or off any sort of "inverted" Y-Axis controls for upwards and downwards pitch, like how a real aircraft actually behaves, for any control input chosen (i.e. controller/joystick, or mouse and keyboard combination) along with a more stable and intuitive way to look around independently of whatever direction the aircraft is actually flying in. This concern for me is applicable to both the aircraft's primary Y-Axis up/down pitch controls themselves, as well as for being able to look around to track what's going on around you, regardless of which viewing mode preference you are playing in. I believe that being independently able to accurately and stably look around, and having that ability to do so made to work accurately but separately of the primary controls themselves would be a huge improvement for maintaining orientation in even the thickest of combat situations, particularly for spotting hostile threats that are looking to target you. If improvements were to be implemented in an upcoming patch for these observations I've made, along the lines of a more 'realistic' or intuitive way to look around independently of the primary controls (i.e. having an option to enable using a joystick's hat switch to be used for this, or allowing the keyboard's keypad buttons to be able to be set to stably look in a specific direction, like directly looking 90 degrees to the right or 180 degrees to the left along the wing, or 270 degrees to your 6 o'clock/tail) and not having to rely on the risk of hypersensitive mouse inputs occurring that can cause the screen to spin out of control and therefore causing you to quickly become disorientated, then I believe this game has strong potential to really stand out in what is now a sparsely populated genre of gaming. I'd like you to think of my suggestion for how to actually implement this recommendation as being just like how you independently can/will move your head and body about the place to look around and outside your car, all while you're still driving your car in a straight or forwards direction. If this suggestion for improvement can be implemented then this game without doubt will become an absolute must play for me, as after many years of not playing these sorts of games I really hunger to shoot down enemy aircraft, in huge numbers and as quickly as possible...
Pleasant game. It's most similar to - I'd say - War Thunder, but single player, indie, and more fun!
I honestly love this game, especially for a solo Dev this is a diamond in the rough, if your looking for a war thunder alternative to do plane battles without having to pay a small fortune or want a game that has almost as dynamics of damage as IL Sturmovik but has simpler controls than this is your game. The controls are more simple, I didn't come across any major bugs yet. Also will there be ever Mod Compatibility, where the community can make mods for this game, it would be cool to see what people can do.
it's better than warthunder in PVE sense
