So What Sets Vigilantes Apart From Other Games?
I'm sure you've noticed that the vast majority of turn based games favour fantasy or sci-fi settings. How many turn based games have you played that don't feature aliens, orcs, mutants, wizards, or bandits as antagonists? With Vigilantes, we wanted to offer you something fresh: a modern, neon drenched, rainy city in the midst of an unprecedented crime wave, supported by hard-boiled prose that brings the setting to life. It's no country for sorcerers or laser guns, but brace yourself for psychotic mob hitmen, molotov wielding doomsday cultists, and paramilitary survivalist snipers!
You can't take down vast criminal organisations by getting into street fights with low level hoods. Surveillance operations can reveal basic information on the extent of a gang's presence in a city district, or how much wealth they are gaining from operations there. To put a gang out of commission, you must locate and eliminate their boss, and smash their facilities. To do this, you must fight your way up the gang hierarchy, using your skills and equipment, such as truth serum, to break them in interrogation.
When's the last time you saw an enemy attempt to flee in a turn based RPG? What happens if they escape, and come gunning for you down the line, more experienced and powerful than ever? When an enemy runs, will you give chase, or focus on active threats?
The gangs will not sit back and allow you to dismantle their operations. They will carry out criminal operations, using the ill gotten proceeds on recruitment, equipment, training, and building buff providing rackets. Success comes with its own risks in Vigilantes. Once you get a gang's attention, they will dispatch deadly lieutenants to ambush and track you down. You may very well set out as the hunter and find yourself the hunted.

My second run through and for the price £5, still a great squad tactics alternative while waiting for the next best thing. Can be a little repetitive toward the end game but there are also more bad guys to deal with to up the difficulty gradually.
I dont even have this game!
This has to be the worst game I played in years. Imagine XCOM and take off all the fun mechanics of it, give it a cooll cyberpunk artwork look just to swap it to hideous poor 2010´s 3d models, and last but not least: a HUD so poorly done that would make a blind person cry while in front of them. Does not worth it, your time and money should not be wasted on this. If anyone gives you this is certainly a clever way to wish you ill, so keep said person and this game out of your life.
Just finished my second run. I love the grittiness and world-building that accompanies your team's attempt to clean up the streets. The combat is good, although it tends to reward turtling and waiting for the enemy to approach you. I always prefer AP based systems, rather than "1 action and 1 move" per turn systems, and this one allows for lots of strategic decisions in terms of your loadout and how you want to balance more accurate but AP intensive shots vs less accurate hip firing. I also made extensive use of overwatch, and appreciated that you could set a CtH threshold so that you didn't waste shots on enemies that were too far away to hit. The skill system was well implemented, allowing you to spend points when levelling, but also gain skills through using the underlying abilities. I tried building my team in different ways, but there are definitely some perks that I applied to my entire combat team, like one that heals your character for 10% of their health when defeating an enemy, or any that boost AP. Playing this again made me really excited for Prometheus Wept, by the same developer, which I have purchased but not yet played. I have been reading the dev logs for that and really like the way it's shaping up, and hope that a lot of the mechanics from Vigilantes are maintained and improved.
probably underestimated game. liked it a lot. nice artwork. a little bit out of time, but story and characters are fine for me. solid mechanics.
Decent 5/10. This game doesn't try to hide it's more about combat then story but some small touches in the game lead me to believe that more was planned yet never enacted. By it on sale, it's by no means a perfect game but it's a passible time waster by an indie company that overall put out a decent product? Is it XCOM? no. It doesn't have to be. There is a decent message buried inside. Mechanically it crashed a few times but my hardware is old. The controls are not always user friendly and it does get repetitive and there is some balancing issues but that's understandable. This is an indie studio. Would like a sequel or remastering with more balancing and more story to add to the game. The characters were interesting enough premises but expanding would be great.
7/10
is ok
X-Com set in a city on the brink of collapse. No regrets buying this one.
I didn't think I would enjoy this as much as I did! The loop was great: loot, raid, and barter, upgrade weapons, take on tougher battles, and go back to looting. Fun skill checks as well, and excellent pulpy writing. Did feel like an achievement when I took down all the gang leaders one by one.
