I am really enjoying this game! Finally got what Stardew Valley should have gotten right to begin with. Seemed a bit of a grind in the beginning in finding enough to eat to do anything but I didn't feel rushed and could relax and so was fun meeting other characters. Characters act more true to life. I love the smithy's attitude! I don't feel like I just want to do my own thing all the time to avoid the people as in Stardew Valley. I enjoy going to see people and doing quests for them to find out what they'll say next. Once I upgraded my pickaxe and water jug to bronze Oh My! Awesome Perks and I like that you can gain strength which cuts down on stamina loss quite a bit. The only glitch I've come across which is pretty annoying is when you get into the large field area just left of the house after the torches light up. Something with the torches and the sound mechanic glitches it like mad. I found the same glitch when walking up the path to get to the mine in the area between the town and the mine entry way. I can walk around for a bit but I gotta get out quick or the game stalls when opening the menu. For those whose menus are stalling when opening them: It does this after staying to long in these glitched areas. The mining path area seems to be getting fixed atm though as it's not as glitchy and can move around easier. Also, would be nice if I could get more than 1 berry per bush. Though with the forestry perk I see that's not as much of an issue but it's hard to get recipes for foraged items. I feel this should be top priority in the beginning of learning cooking before growing crops with the prices being so high. I also am not able to plant the trees in my yard yet with the seeds after chopping them down. I guess that's something I may get after doing quests. All in all I'm loving this game; especially the fishing! So much fun and a huge variety of fish every time! Keep up the good work!
Goodbye Everyone....I'm Moving to Verdant Village!!!
Yes, you heard me correctly, and I might never come back!! This place has everything I've ever wanted in life, and then some! I already have 127 hours in, and the game is not even finished, talk about getting more bang for your buck! This isn't just some farming game, this game has hunting (with a bow and arrow), fishing (sooo many fish!!), mining (lots of gems and ore to find), alchemy (there's so much to discover and do, this part could almost be a separate game), archeology (this gives you all the history and back story and pulls you in), ranching, cooking, and yes, even a horse to ride all over the HUGE map (not all is available now, but it's coming!!). There are even some Easter eggs to find if you like to explore and have some curiosity ;) In fact, there is a lot more to be added to this gem in the future, and I'm excited about ALL of it! If you want to compare this game to other games in this genre, let me say it has far more to offer than most, and the dev is just getting started. The dev is also VERY involved and responsive, unlike some out there. So if anyone wants to move here with me, just let me know, there's plenty of room and things to do for everyone!!! Just be careful if I'm in the mine, I LOVE throwing around dynamite and finding secret rooms full of treasure :)
The beginings of a decent game, but zero difficulty. The developer seems like a genuinely good guy, so I'm guessing why people sploosh about this game. Unfortunately, he is also accountable for creating a fairy-tale world where the main character can't die, and can't help but get rich. The basics of the game are solid-- you can farm, mine, fish and hunt, and gather plants and herbs. There is a cooking system, a potion system and a brewing system. So it seems like it would be all kinds of fun. Except you can't get hurt (only tired), so what do you need cooked meals and potions for? The game has zero enemies, including the mines. You just spend your days making money. Also, with only a couple of updates a year, I'd be very surprised if this ever reaches the level of being a complete game. On a positive note: if the demo is still available, definitely try it out. Like I said, there are parts of a good game here, so some people are going to like it, and the demo gives you a chance to see most of it.
This game is VERY much a Stardew Valley clone. The beginning is a bit of a grind so I'm going to wait until the game reaches full release before giving it a go. The beginning may be a little less grueling by the time the game leaves early access. If you don't like Stardew Valley, you really should not buy this game.
After Pushing through the beginning. (finding and doing inventory quests) The game seemed to be a lot smoother and more fun. The beginning is a bit of a chore. After that it's pretty a fun StarDew like experience without the rush to bed because your afraid of passing out which is AWESOME in my book. Also, I'm running this on Win10 without any problems.
Played this way back in EA, before it hit steam. Was sad to see it never garnered much attention, despite the good content that was already there back then. Troubles of being an ambitious indie dev I guess :/ Very happy to see Exodus continued to work on this despite having to take a different job though. Few days ago I went through my wishlist and remembered this game - time to finally make my purchase :) I know even with the content from back then it would have been worth the price to me and I can not wait to see what has been changed/added since then. Game def has a lot of similarities with stardew valley, but also plenty of unique ideas and features to stand on its own feet. I know it probably will take a long time for this to actually be finished, but I am all up for the ride. Either way I am sure I will have some good time with this once again and it never hurts to support an honest and hard working indie dev just a little bit :)
Verdant Village has just about everything I love in a farming sim. First off, the artwork is gorgeous, befitting of the medieval aesthetic. The game has a huge map to explore, allowing for plenty foraging and money making in the early game. Villagers are friendly too and in talking to them you can unlock quests which enhances gameplay with the rewards you're given in return. Fishing and mining aren't annoying, just be sure to clear 10 levels at a time in the mines. This allows the route to be saved as a shortcut for the minecarts. Key controls for the game are mappable, so you're not stuck with WASD key configuration. As the game is still in development, some areas of the map are inaccessible and there are a few bugs to be found but the developer is quick to respond to the reports and questions - my interactions with them have been very pleasant. For those wondering, the game will have dating and same-sex romance, but they haven't been implemented as yet. I look forward to those features and more. Keep up the great work, this game is already one of my favourites!
this game has a lot of potential, and i was enjoying as a farming game with side elements. the mine was a bit of a pain to go through but enjoyable. unfortunately the developer decided to have farm fields grass over after two days whilst i was in the mine. on returning from the mine on the 28th day of winter, i had lost all my fields as the were now water pipe encircled patches of grass, which defeats the whole object of being a farmer. i was already annoyed at being ripped off buying barn upgrades. If you are l live stock farmer with small plots of land it is a good game but for farming it is not
Very nice game with wonderful music and relaxing gameplay, so much to do for Early Access and many plans for the future. And the best: a very nice dev who´s react of player´s feedback and remove the most failures quickly (very rare in this times :))
As a fellow farming sim dev I would like to praise the developer efforts I had a few issues with the current gameplay and the developer replied very fast pointing out the solution and explained his plans to improve what I had the most problem with.
