Was really on the fence given some of the word choice in other reviews. In hindsight, that feels crazy. I've played a ton of Beat em ups and this is definitely at the top of the bunch. Pixel art is gorgeous, the game screams personality, and the baddies are original, have interesting attacks, and the controls are pretty tight. Very, very, highly recommend. Currently, competing for my GOTY!!
There aren't a lot of reviews for this game, and it definitely deserves some love, so here goes: Devs stepped away from some of genre's common practices (like grabs for example) in favor of their own ideas. While I love more traditional beat'em'ups like SOR4 and Fight'n'Rage, I think it's not a bad thing for devs to experiment. And in this case result is very solid mechanically IMO, and further elevated by gorgeous pixel art and hidden secrets. So if you are looking for some fresh beat'em'up action and do not mind some deviations from genre canon, I recommend it.
A really cool beat em up. 3 distinct characters and lots of combo potential. Beautiful sprite-work and vivid colors. If I had to nitpick, I'd say that the robot character feels weak in comparison to the other 2. Having a special that doesn't work against certain enemy types, not counting bosses, when the other 2 function against every enemy type doesn't feel great. Which is a shame because art-style and personality wise he is super charming and cool. Do recommend this quality beat em up.
wow. now this is what I've been waiting for. This game just feels perfect. The pacing, the enemies, the move sets, everything just works so well. It's exactly what you'd expect from a 90's era beat'em up, and that's ALL I want. I love it. I can't put into words how nice this game feels. Will play through this many many times. Everyone else jumping on the beat'em up bandwagon these days, pay attention to this game. This is the formula you should be emulating.
Game is a lot of fun! It looks gorgeous, has good music, cool enemies, and of course my favorite, a grappler robot. Gameplay is very 'pick-up-and-play', but there is always quite the variety of combos you can do. am enjoying my time with it so far and will keep going for the 1CC!
O jogo roda nativamente no PC.
I love beat em up games, but it's hard recommending this one at least the PC version (a new NEO GEO game is always welcome especially a technically sound like this one). I am not sure what's to blame but the game is well... boring. It just doesn't flow as good as other beat em ups. It isn't that fun and it starts getting stale before you even finish the first level. I finished Maiden Cops a ton of times, Final Vendetta as well, unlocked almost everything in Fight 'n Rage, at a time I was playing Streets of Rage 4 on a daily basis, at a ton of other modern beat em ups and I boot up emulators for some other classics every now and then, but Vengeance Hunters I struggle to keep playing, nothing keeps my interest. The combat system on paper should be great. Three different attacks you can combine for combos yet it feels like I've seen everything that has to offer after like 2 minutes. Game feels way too slow and maybe it sticks around each screen a tad too long feeling like you are barely progressing, each stage in general feels a bit too long. Bosses are pretty decent though, I just wish the journey for reaching them was way shorter. I really don't know why I feel that way, I am watching the trailers while writing this and it feels like I should love the gameplay yet it just doesn't click with me. Music isn't anything to write home about. Same with the sound effects. Both lack any oomph and this also hurts the overall experience. Visuals is the one shining point of the game. They are extremely colorful and detailed, there's variety, the enemies and main characters are well designed and animated. The resolution could've been higher but I guess it's because this was also released on the NEO GEO. It's one of those cases I wish there was a neutral option when recommending a game. Because this clearly doesn't deserve a negative review, and hey maybe others don't find the experience as boring as myself. But I have to be honest here, I am not having fun playing this and can't even bother finishing it even though I can spend hours playing other titles in the same genre trying to beat them without losing a life (or at least a credit) and never get as bored as with Vengeance Hunters.
See? They get it. This is a feeling that some people can't comprehend.
