Solid gun play, solid movement, story is pretty good, unique art style. + this game costs less than a lunch. Do yourself a favor, get it.
I enjoyed this game. Only con is the slow motion is just choppy frame rate and the sword skill was far superior to the other two.
this game is really fun but completely let down by the masses of oversights and technical issues. genuinely would be goty if all the jank was fixed. here are a bunch of things i noticed just in case the dev sees this review, the stuff nearer the bottom is easier to fix btw: - game seems to run at a low fps, despite the steam fps feature saying otherwise - i think it might be an issue in the movement code - generally the movement lacks momentum, and is inconsistent (eg the slide goes from one speed to another instantly rather than winding down or anything) - grapple is broken, kinda works sometimes but it is hella jank - enemies have health waaaaay too low, even with the 'enemies level with you' option enabled its still pretty easy - end of mission control point thing doesnt work well with the movement, why would i want to sit in one place when i could be jumping around doing cool ♥♥♥♥ - no animation for ADS, even just a zoom would be nice - also it zooms in on the screen meaning the hitmarker gets bigger as well. - no way to tell which direction you're getting hit from, and its kinda hard to tell when ur getting hit anyway - gun sounds cut off really early, which is really offputting - a bunch of ♥♥♥♥ straight up doesn't have any audio, which is really wierd - game mechanics not well explained - theres an issue where you can hold down a button for maximum jank, works across the whole game. (eg: i accidentally held the e key for like 0.2 secs and it skipped ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of dialogue) - you inexplicably go really fast while firing , reloading or doing anything with ur hands - no numbers in the option menu for stuff like fov - no scroll wheel support for changing weapons - melee has insane range - the magic orb thing (the ability i forgot the name) gives you super op antigrav - single shot guns like shotguns require you to load each shot separately with an r press, this is kinda remedied by the jank from holding down buttons but you still load each one individually, and it takes ages. - the game gives you WAAAAAAY too much ammo, splitting ammo for ars and smg+ pistols in to different types would help, and incentivize trying out all the guns
What's up with it, Vanilla face? Me and my homie Azamat just parked our slab outside. We're looking for somewhere to post up our Black asses for the night. So, uh, bang bang, skeet skeet.
Firstly, let's address the elephant in the room - the art style. I know that it can be off-putting because essentially it's a game made in paint - looks cheap, some stuff clashes because of the different art styles, and sometimes you can't tell what you're looking at but damn is it fun. The gameplay carries everything, trust me. Vacancy Unlimited is a retro inspired first-person shooter with quick and snappy movement, fun gunplay, and lots of guns and gadgets; I was finding new weapons up to the last level, and judging from the screenshots, I didn't find all of them anyway. The weapons also are really detailed for a game that looks like that; you can tell which set of weapons was made early in development, tho. The game features around 20 levels that are semi-open, in which you open crates to find gadgets and weapons, do side objectives that consist of killing VIPs, and finding a special rings on a map, and one main objective, which is finding a beacon that you must activate and survive the horde of enemies to complete the level. Each kill and completed objective gives you XP that grants you skill points when you level up. It's a simple gameplay loop, but it holds up. The story...exists? Not gonna lie, I have no clue what it is about; it's a part of some universe created by the developer that spans multiple games, but it didn't grab my attention, and I really couldn't care for the characters nor take anything seriously; for me it was just a background. I cared more about swinging with a grapple hook around the levels, searching for guns, and blasting enemies, and I don't regret it. As for my gripes with the game, there is not much, but the biggest one would be AI. It's just dumb and weak. Zombies just move towards you; enemies with guns do the same with occasional shooting, and drones just sit in the air waiting for you to get in range to shoot you. Picking up items can sometimes be a little finicky if there is multiple pickups next to eachother, some SFX could be a little better mixed and there could be more of sound effects for some actions to be less silent but it's not a biggie, The perk that increases your speed movement seems to work only when you are shooting or reloading; you are doing it most of the time tho so I guess it's passable but I don't get why the dev didn't catch that bug and the last minor con for me would be inconsisty when it comes to weapons drawn with attachments, some guns are drawn with the scopes, red dots and suppresors, some of the sights are usable while some are not which is a gamble tbh, same for suppresors some have a suppresed sound while other just sound like there would be nothing attached to the barrel. And that is Vacancy Unlimited - it has it's flaws, and it's not perfect, but for this price it's a steal. Just try it, It's good!
me likey, only gripe is the movement feels so choppy and uncomfortable.
