USG, a hand drawn vertical shoot em up made by Pollapee, the same dev that made F.L.E.S.H. The gameplay is pretty quick and for lack of a better term “crunchy”. The shooting and killing sound effects are pretty satisfying which stayed consistent from their previous game. The gameplay is simple but can also be a bit of a challenge later on. Two buttons, one being your shot and the other being your bomb. In traditional mode you can choose a power up of health, bomb or after defeating a main boss you can choose a different shot type. It’s important to note that shooting enemies for score will not give you an extends (1ups) like in other shmups. This is why the upgrades are important. There is also a freestyle mode that allows you to stack these upgrades for more chaos. The game offers a focus setting for those who are used to the traditional “hold for slow shot” style in most shmups. If that's not your thing, the default is without it. A nice touch is allowing the player to have either less or more visibility of the hitbox in the settings. The game is a bit on the short side for a shmup (15 mins) but that's fine with me, as long as the shmup is good. Take it with a grain of salt but there is only a minor issue I have with this game. When overwhelmed with enemies, the in game music and the sound effects will effectively break. I couldn’t tell if this was just my computer being weird or the game doing it on purpose? Who can say really. Overall, the game was pretty enjoyable to clear. Check it out :) If you would like to check out my clear of the game here as well! https://youtu.be/7ce4388_jhM?si=_OfUaqelcnYd8zng

Freestyle mode is an absolute chaotic mess and because of that it's glorious. You stack up various different weapons which is dictated by a level up bar, some just shoot normal bullets, some are homing, some remove enemy bullets, and the fun is experimenting to see what combinations work best. At the end, you're going to have quite the arsenal and it's like a new game plus but it's satisfactory how much powerful you are with obliterating other enemies. It's a cut priced game that I had a lot of fun with. There is another mode, Traditional mode, which only allows one additional power up at any one time and removes the levelling up system for more serious players. It didn't click with me, some of the flaws in the boss design really came out when you didn't have the tools readily available to deal with it. But for five bucks I can't knock it too much. Even less when it eventually goes on sale. Glad to have played it and look forward for anything new which comes up. It has its own style as can be seen, a rather playful gory aesthetic, nice music, and comes across as unique. Eight thumbs up.
Another quirky shooter from the Flesh dev. This is great fun, has leaderboards and is an absoulute bargain for the price. Just buy it!
A brilliant hand crafted visual game that locks you in with exciting patterns from the first second of play, and runs like a dream on the Steam Deck. Had a small issue and the dev remedied it right away. Highly Recommend!!
Really cool roguelike shmup, it can be hard to see stuff at times and is quite chaotic, but very fun
the illustrated USG logo really caught my attention then seeing that this entire game has drawn illustrations really sold it for me. The game is relatively short with some scaling difficulty, so this is a great game for people new to shoot em ups and a beautiful short one for the veterans. Banger soundtrack with an animated title screen to its rhythm. Can’t wait to check out this developer’s other games I picked them all up because of this
USG is fun of course. bring me back to vertical arcade shooting game :)
Not bad🙌🏻
