There was a Time, when Consoles weren´t that popular then today. A Time that goes hard on Pocket Money of youth People. A Time, when Arcade Automates ruled, big playing Machines that needed Coins to play. A Time we might call the Arcade Era. Also the Era of Explosive die hard Action Games or just Bullet Hell. Welcome to STARLIGHT: EYE OF THE STORM This Game is a big Bow to that Era. A typical Fire and Forget Shooter. Choose your Starfighter and go into Battle. Vertical Shooting like in Legendary RAIDEN. Destroying everything that moves and outmanouvering enemy Fire. Each Level with an Endboss Challenge. The Game starts with a nice Tutorial which you can skip if you want, before it goes into Action. As said before, youre enemys are coming from everywhere, so expect much action on your screen. And yes, it IS a pure Bullet Hell. This is the first game developed by Strides Interactive Game Studio who are entering the rough world of steam and its arcade bullet hell shooter games. [h1]Gameplay / Story[/h1] We are under attack, Pew Pew, Go fight for us soldier, Pew Pew, Nuclear Missiles exploding around you, Pew Pew. Yes Starlight : Eye of the Storm is a bullet hell game, what is a bullet hell game? Remember how the average religious Christian thinks hell looks like. Now imagine everywhere bullets flying around you killing you immediately, and you have to dodge all of them while fighting Satan and making a perfect Vanilla Milkshake with chocolate chunks on the top. That's how an average game of Starlight Eye of the Storm feels. It is fun, but you have to like dodging around while still damaging the end boss and this games end boss are really nice, from fighting against other Pilots to giant carrier ships with destructible parts up to a giant spacecraft shooting everything everywhere. The game itself is really player friendly, most bullet Hell games are not. From the start on the game reminds which part of the ship will receive damage, you get 30 different weapons, each changing in path, speed and AOE when upgraded. You can buy up a regenerative shield to have more life, drifting around to shoot on a better angle and also having special weapons who deny incoming enemy bullets. Its just wonderful. [h1]Pro[/h1] + a lot of different ships + you can customize your own ship + 30 unique weapons, from AOE, to fast fire and even counter bullet weapons. + gameplay is smooth and fun + Bosses are a highlight in this game + Art style is really colorful + Great soundtrack [h1]Contra[/h1] - you can't store weapons with an upgrade once bought, you sell the old one automatically - no way to test new weapons, it's you either stay with your current best weapon or die trying to find the best one. - positioning is really important in the game but the drifting chooses on it own who to target, getting you into a bad situation while fighting a boss on your left or right. [h1]Conclusion/ Who will enjoy the game?[/h1] Starlight: Eye of the Storm is an excellent Bullethell game with unique weapons and a great upgrade system. The game starts great and loses a bit of it momentum during the middle part but starts to go fast-paced during the end and felt only boring on a few parts where the enemy spawn would be only 3 different ships who changed color only. Being absolute wood finger ( and eye), when playing bullet hell games I were bit doubtful how'd I do, but despite there being lot of lot of bullets ( specially late game), the lower difficulties in this game are actually doable for butter fingers like me, AND you can change stuff like credits and lives on menus so it makes things easier for us casuals. PROS : - Drift mode, man this is fun, max this on spot, you want to keep this up as much as possible. ( let's you move about auto targeting stuff on any direction of map vs the usual forward aim) - Save and exit as well as continue mode ! you can leave game and return where you were =) - Looks neat enough, not mega budget game, it shows on some bits but the graphics are pretty decent specially on ship designs. - lot of customization stuff ( I love the lives and continues bit) - Lots of weapons and money is easy to get so you can upgrade and swap weapons pretty easily. - Ships are different enough, some have side weapons, others can get back turrets, so on, they feel different enough. Ultimates as well, one reflects back bullets, one absorbs them, one turns you flaming immortal fireball and so on. -Shield and absorb mechanics help a lot if you don't have expert reflexes. - Long for a shooter. -Content editor, you can make your own ship ! - tutorial can be skipped CONS: - Upgrade shop ui takes time to get used to, specially exiting shop. - Hit box is, really, really, really, hard to find if you are half blind owl like I am, took me demo + full game to figure out first ship's hit box is just cockpit. - Gets confusing at times. - A lot to clear on one seating, as harder difficulties get intense, fortunately there's a save feature. -tutorial on every new game. I played the demo ( first 4 stages) trough multiple times so things were familiar to me, but you definitely need to keep attention on load screen text, to figure out stuff. Yeah, I'd say buy it if you want to try a bullet hell that is as forgiving as you let it be, plus based on how this dev handled their first game I'd say the game is just going to improve ! For this price ? worth it to me at least, specially since arcade mode is pretty long and campaign is not even released yet. Edit : bit of tip, game saves at start of the stage, so even if you game over, you can continue from that spot with credits/lives/money you had start of the stage, this helps you a lot if your weapons are horrible for current stage ( I look at you shield generators ;_;). Ps : Avast gives this game false positive on launch, don't know about other antiviruses, I know for sure though, that the game exe is not a virus so just heads up. Edit : original review in 17 feb 2021, correction on 28 march. There were no remote play together on 17th, dev implemented it last week, Jeremylee always listens to suggestions, that is what you sign up for with this game =)
A BLAST FROM THE PAST Shooter type game! Content editor so players even more to do and add to it. It's awesome shooter game and up to 3 players at a time also cast remote play on devices to get your friends blasting in as they maneuver levels of attacks and hardcore bosses. Upgrade your ships and type of weapons to survive and many more unlocks. Fill ships energy bar to super charge blasting making way to stay alive in this addicting shooter it makes time fly.
To be completely honest, I am not a fan of arcade style games. However, this game genuinely surprised me. The tutorial was easy to understand and the gameplay was exciting. If you enjoy arcade style games I would totally recommend trying this game out.
[h1]ストアページを見た瞬間からやばい予感はあった[/h1] <昔買ってレビューを書いていなかった作品。通常のレビューより簡素> ストアページに不美人なヒロイン?を見せているあたり「売る気があるのかな?」としか思えなかった。 制作者の目には美人に見えているのかもしれないが、美的感覚は人それぞれなのでそれはいいとしよう。 本作は自機に耐久値のある弾幕STGとなっていて、当たり判定もほどほどに小さいこともあってなかなか死なないのが意外といい。 ゲームデザイン自体も特定のボタンを押すことで機体の向きが左右へ90度変えられるようになっていて、競合と差別化できているのも良かった。 ただ洋ゲーSTG名物である「退屈なだけの高耐久ボス」でプレイがだるいのと、機体の向き転換が20年前にゼロガンナーで実現されていて新鮮味がないのと道中が地味なシーンばかりで退屈だったので面白いとは思わなかった。 他にもロードが妙に長かったり、妙に動作が重いと感じることがあったりとゲーム以外で首を傾げることがあったのもいまいちだった。 一応、普通に遊べる完成度だが、この飽食の時代にあえてこのゲームで遊ぶ理由がない。
Fun bullet hell that isn't too overwhelming and allows ship customizations and a ton of weapons to choose from! The drift mode auto-pivot is fun! Not to mention the editor to make your own custom ships from scratch! Love the game's retro look and feel too.. Please try this, especially if you are a fan of airplane shooters.
Here is the official review since the demo. I have had more time in the demo than this version (1.05b), but it should hold up for now. I have been following the game for a couple years now and have a lot of faith in the progress having since tasted that tease of a demo. ---{ Graphics }--- Starting with graphics, they are a mix of 2D sprites and 3D renders. Don't be fooled by its simplicity. Once you get into the game, the graphics immerse you into a fever dream of Starfox, chrono trigger, and such other SNES and Genesis era game graphics whilst maintaining a pretty 3D background render. ☐ You forget what reality is ☐ Beautiful ☑ Good ☐ Decent ☐ Bad ☐ Don‘t look too long at it ☐ MS-DOS ---{ Gameplay }--- The features offered in this game go above and beyond what other schmups and bullet hell/r-type clones have to offer. The "drift" mode is awesome. Simply press a button to automatically aim 360 degrees toward the nearest enemy that may come across any direction on the screen.
