Cool art style, neat cutscenes. Can't say a whole lot of good about the gamplay. Combat is ok, but the exploration is terrible. Half the time you can't tell where you need to go. It's way too easy to accidentally progress the main line without fully exploring the area. Camera is obnoxious and doesn't let you see where you need to go. It just wasn't any fun at any stage.
x,x,x,y,b, dash ... to get through a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ice wall. And you need soul stuff for that, so you have to repeatedly kill the enemy in the room, only for it to just not work. This game isn't a looker, it doesn't have any semblance of an interesting opening, it is clunky, unprecise and frontloads TONS of combo information and all sorts of gameplay mechanics on you ... and then puts you in a tutorial area, which doesn't seem to work. Or maybe I'm just too stupid. That's always a possibility. However, I just don't find this appealing, so maybe I'm going to miss out by not playing it, but it's just a very badly designed start to any game. Here's how you do it: Either you just let the player mostly explore the game and its mechanics on their own, like in Dark Souls, which works, because the game is designed that way, even if it can be frustratingly difficult at times, I always felt like pushing on. Or you slowly introduce the player to new mechanics over time, instead of trying to make them remember 20 different combos and attacks and mechanics in the first 10 minutes. Hard pass. Though, I imagine the game does look pretty flashy (for a 2D pixel-art game) once you master this combat system.
A bit late to reviewing this based on when I played it, but I would recommend Unsouled. I'd even say it is worth the upfront non-sale price for a specific kind of person, but for most people with too many games in their libraries, grab it on sale. Let's start with what I really like: combat is fluid, landing combos and parries is satisfying, and most of the bosses provide very fun fights to learn and experiment around in: in particular I'd recommend fighting the two secret bosses of the game, as they are by far the best example of the game's potential. The art is beautiful, the soundtrack is a bop at times, and things are paced out pretty well. That said, game is short. Very short. If you only do one single playthrough of the game to try and experience the story, you're going to be incredibly disappointed. Both because the story won't make sense unless you go out of your way to achieve the 'true' ending, but also because the story won't make sense even after you do. After a while, especially if you're pushing yourself, there's just not really anything in the game to challenge you or mix things up when you actually get good at it beyond the pretty barebones boss rush mode that can be frustrating at times. If you like speedrunning, the game can be fun. If you like achievement hunting, the game can be fun. If you like challenging yourself to master boss patterns and mechanics, the game can be fun. Just not for very long. I found the game to be a pretty good time, just not a very long one. Most of my playtime listed above came from going for 100% completion and self imposed challenges.
Quick Summary: A beautiful pixel Quasi-cinematic game that is more action than souls-like with some flawed execution in both gameplay and storyline that really bring the game down that isn't worth the $20 price tag currently. -See Below for Deeper Review- Gameplay: The game uses souls (multi-coloured orbs ala onimusha) as currency to buy new skills/abilites to upgrade them. That's where the souls part for some would be. They are abundant and by act 5 you'll have enough to level up you're favorite skills. What the problem here is, the game uses a chaining system on attacks and dodges, but sometimes it dosen't register, other times it so clunky you break the chain knowing full well you did complete it. (Get good son?), but there's a option to turn on Auto-chaining and man that changed the game up to the point it also wasn't great. Yea, after turning on Auto-chaining i was bouncing around the stage killing things in cinematic glory, blocking and dodging it was amazing to see it blended with the pixel graphics, but i found my game became then too easy. Next thing i know the game was over in less than 2 hours feeling hollow. Balance is where this game, doesn't quite hit. I feel the developers had great ideas, just couldn't find as I said balance. The environments don't have a huge amount of exploration, there's a few places where you'll find some souls with a bit of story, but for the most part the stages are pretty linear. There is both a bad ending and a secret ending, which I'll be honest I got the bad ending. I just couldn't get myself to go back and play it again and do a certain sequence again just to see the other ending. Cause, by the time I beat the game, i felt bored and done. Storyline: You play Prince Maras back to life to exact revenge on you're sister who betrayed and raised a necromantic army. There's a few twists, but not many turns. There's little bits of lore building, but clearing you can see the writer had a bigger picture, but had to squash it down into a little game. You are suppose to care for characters, but they really just show up, get a neat flash back and you go "Ok..". thats it. There is 2 endings and while I got the bad ending and youtubed the second one. It just didn't resonate well.. Graphics: Wow, the pixel artists for this game deserve so much credit. They really carried a lot to make me want to continue to play this game. All the backgrounds look amazing at there are a few moments where the game pans out and twists the camera just right for you to see it all in it's glory, other times the cinematic fights and moments uses the camera to create a 2.5d look that really elevates the action and pixels. The only real complaint I could have is the character themselves lack any real detail, but they do all move so fluidly it really doesn't hurt it. There's pixel cutscenes that are pretty fun to watch at the end of most stages that try to help flesh out the story, as well. If you play this 2 hour game for anything play it for the pixel work. Sound/Music: It's ok? The music was mostly forgettable, but nothing horrible. It's fitting for what the game is and was. The sound effects all match up with the moments and all do a decent job lining up. There is no voice work in the game, which is a shame cause that may have elevated the story a bit more. Final Thoughts: I wanted to like this. The graphics save it for the most part, but not enough for the $20 tag it currently sits at. The gameplay needed to be re-balanced and re-worked. The storyline needed more time to cook, and the overall game could used a few more updates to make it a truly decent game, but for now in its state. If you can get it for under $10 is the only way i can truly recommend it. Come for the pixel graphic cinematic moments, turn on auto-chain from the start and shut you're brain off.
Unsouled has great music and great visuals. The gameplay is serviceable and gets you from one place to the next with interesting opponents to fight along the way. The story didn't really blow me away, but I don't think I was really there for it to begin with. For $3 on Steam, this game delivered a fun experience and I'm glad I took a chance on it.
It's an alright game, but when I got one of the soul from Act 3, the game got unplayable. I understand it tells you it's a cursed soul, but I expected something like take x% more damage or something that can be played around... But the debuff makes you freeze for 1 sec on every skill use. And since it's a fast pace game were skills are the bread and butter, the this is just a ridiculously bad game decision. I even tried editing my save to remove it before I gave up. Almost purged the game but I restarted a new game to finish it. I enjoyed the game, but that little part makes me done with it.
Aksiyon - hack and slash ikilisine daha yatkın diyebilirim. PUAN = 78
This game is amazing, why it has 73% positive is beyond me. I love this game so much because the combat feels really fluid and nice. For example, this game allows you to chain dash, so its always fun to dash to one enemy and kill them then immediately dash to the next, or if I feel like running away I just chain dash away. If you're looking for a solid top down action game with light RPG elements, this game is just for you. My only recommendation for this game is to add a ranged weapon, I feel it would fit really nicely.
The game is good, but needs more than one playthrough with a guide to be worth the money if not on sale. A lot of the game's content is locked behind a secret 2nd path.
