This might be the most underrated game of all time
can classify this as a hidden gem basically, a high quality flash game++ in 2.5D it's a shmup souls-like and it's charming in characters, art, music and, most importantly, gameplay highly recommended if you fancy something soulful
This game slaps! UPDATE: I've now gotten all the achievements in this game. I can't recommend it enough. 10/10 It's the singleplayer RotMG experience I was always dreaming of.
Very fun souls-like bullet dodger, all of the combat encounters are incredibly unique and it's a real challenge trying to put together the right build for some of these. The camera system is a bit iffy at times, especially in later boss battles where you really need to position the camera in order to dodge more effectively, it's a bit too hectic. Overall though this has been a greatly satisfying game so far.
It's not really my kind of game as I suck at bullet hell but you can tell it's really well made. I'm not gonna refund it either since it's a indie game and I would be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for doing that.
I had defeated 8 bosses before realizing that you could use money to level up at statues. I consider this a testament to the game's impressive build customization and boss design. Every enemy drops an item that can modify your shots in significant ways. Combining these items can lead to powerful synergies. For example, one item decreased my range in exchange for increased attack speed, but I was able to overcome this by using an item that causes shots to bounce off walls. The bounces improved range. Every boss has some unique gimmick. I loved learning how to overcome each one. The map is sprawling, and filled with puzzles and secrets. My biggest complaint involves the menus. In particular, the map is too small. This makes it hard to use the teleport feature on gamepad. I also encountered an issue if my mouse hovered over an item, its text would be displayed even if I selected a different item with the gamepad. This is a true hidden gem. I love the flash game aesthetic and its moody world. Every encounter has been a joy to solve. Please release the soundtrack.
Very much a hidden gem. General concept is pretty similar to ASCENXION, a bullet-hell top-down metroidvania (tho calling it an MV might be a stretch but there is a lot of unguided exploration). However Shell of a King is much more open-ended with a lot of branching pathways and a way, way bigger amount of unlockables (granted you're still gonna fight nearly the same way the entire game, unlike ASCENXION). Exploration is absolutely superb and combat is pretty well made. Some issues holding the game back: - Lack of telegraphing for some bosses, unless you know an attack is coming you're just gonna get one-tapped. Lots of "feelsbadman" moments during certain fights - Some areas have infinitely spawning enemies, not a fan
Finished this game with all bosses and the true ending and I can safely say this is one of the best games ive played this year. Amazing story, great art, excellent boss design, cool world, fun puzzles, so many collectables, tons of trinket combinations to use and they are all meaningful in some way, solid level up system, 6 different endings. This game is an absolute banger and is well worth it at full price. Its insane to think a solo dev made this. 10/10 no notes.
I saw this one in an ad and checked it out since the genres spoke to me. I'm really enjoying it so far - combat is well-done, exploring feels rewarding, and bosses are engaging. I really enjoy its hand-drawn aesthetic (I think the Steam banner doesn't do a good job of relaying that style - my friend immediately thought it was going to have an anime aesthetic). It really just checks all of the boxes for me.
