-----------------------------
Small Update

You have to turn on the lighter to be able to see in the dark obviously!
Foul. I tried to complete the game but I'm pretty sure there is no end-game trigger, so you can't actually win. I may be wrong, but it sure seems like this is simply a bunch of basic Unity horror themed assets clumped together without even going through the effort of allowing the player to complete the sequence. At one point I got stuck in the elevator shaft with no way of getting out and was forced to just quit. That kind of sets the tone for the game: an utter mess. The only enemy I encounter made no sound at all. You can't even hear it approach you. Completely silent, and then it oneshots you by brushing past your back. You can also walk around while the "You are Dead" screen is showing before it cuts to black and sends you to the last checkpoint. That's how bad this is. Publishing this game is like grinning at a funeral: you're free to do it but you won't look good.

UnScared is a first-person psychological survival horror game developed by Devil Devs Studio and published by Prestige Games that draws heavily from classic horror traditions while focusing on atmosphere, exploration, and vulnerability. Set within the crumbling remains of a forgotten asylum, the game places players in an environment where every corridor hides uncertainty and every shadow has the potential to conceal danger. Rather than empowering players with powerful weapons or action-oriented mechanics, UnScared chooses a more traditional survival horror approach, emphasizing tension, limited resources, and the constant fear of being hunted. The story begins with a simple but effective premise. Curious about the rumors surrounding an abandoned psychiatric facility, the protagonist enters the building expecting to uncover its secrets. What starts as an investigation quickly becomes a desperate fight for survival. The asylum was once the site of unethical experiments that ended in tragedy, and the consequences of those actions still linger within its walls. As players venture deeper into the facility, they discover that something far more terrifying than abandoned hallways and old medical equipment remains trapped inside. One of the game's greatest strengths is its setting. The asylum serves as a perfect backdrop for psychological horror, combining isolation, mystery, and a lingering sense of human tragedy. Every section of the building feels abandoned yet strangely alive. Empty patient rooms, deteriorating treatment areas, forgotten offices, and dark corridors all contribute to an oppressive atmosphere that rarely gives players a chance to relax. The environment constantly encourages exploration while simultaneously making every step feel dangerous. Exploration forms the foundation of the gameplay. Players are required to search through the asylum in order to uncover clues about the facility's past and the horrific events that occurred there. Documents, newspaper articles, and scattered notes gradually reveal pieces of the story, encouraging players to investigate thoroughly. The narrative unfolds through environmental storytelling rather than lengthy cutscenes, making discovery feel more personal and rewarding. Every new clue helps build a clearer picture of the experiments that transformed the asylum into a nightmare. Resource management adds meaningful tension to the experience. The darkness inside the asylum is not merely cosmetic; it actively affects gameplay. Players rely heavily on a flashlight to navigate the facility, but batteries are limited and must be found throughout the environment. A lighter provides a secondary source of illumination, though it offers far less visibility. This creates a constant struggle between caution and necessity. Using too much power too quickly can leave players vulnerable, while conserving resources often means moving through areas with limited visibility. The game's central threat comes in the form of a monstrous patient created by the asylum's experiments. This creature transforms exploration into a nerve-wracking experience because players are rarely certain when it might appear. Unlike action-oriented horror games that encourage direct confrontation, UnScared focuses on avoidance and survival. The lack of offensive options reinforces the feeling of helplessness, making encounters significantly more stressful. Every appearance of the creature reminds players that they are not the dominant force within this environment. Atmosphere is where the game truly excels. The horror is built through anticipation rather than constant action. Long stretches of silence, dimly lit hallways, and subtle environmental details work together to create a feeling of unease that persists throughout the adventure. Players often find themselves imagining dangers before they appear, which can be more effective than any scripted scare. The game understands that fear often comes from uncertainty, and it uses that principle effectively. The sound design deserves particular praise for how it supports the atmosphere. Strange noises echo through the building, distant sounds hint at unseen movement, and moments of complete silence create an uncomfortable tension. Audio cues frequently make players question whether a threat is nearby, forcing them to remain alert even when nothing immediately dangerous is visible. This careful use of sound significantly enhances immersion and contributes to the overall feeling of dread. Visually, UnScared adopts a practical approach that prioritizes mood and environmental storytelling. The asylum is filled with signs of neglect and decay, from damaged walls to abandoned medical equipment. While the graphics may not rival larger-budget horror games, the art direction effectively communicates the building's disturbing history. The darkness and limited visibility become integral parts of the experience rather than simple visual effects. The pacing is another area where the game performs well. Exploration, story discovery, and moments of danger are balanced in a way that prevents the experience from becoming repetitive. Players are given opportunities to investigate and absorb the atmosphere before new threats emerge. This rhythm allows tension to build naturally and ensures that frightening moments retain their impact. UnScared succeeds because it remains focused on the fundamental principles of survival horror. It does not attempt to overwhelm players with unnecessary mechanics or excessive action sequences. Instead, it concentrates on creating a believable environment, a compelling mystery, and a persistent sense of vulnerability. The result is an experience that feels tense, immersive, and consistently unsettling. For fans of classic horror adventures centered on exploration and atmosphere, UnScared offers a satisfying journey into darkness. Its abandoned asylum setting, resource management mechanics, environmental storytelling, and relentless tension combine to create a memorable indie horror experience. While it may not reinvent the genre, it demonstrates a strong understanding of what makes survival horror effective and delivers a chilling adventure that keeps players uneasy from beginning to end.
