Honestly, I haven't really played Unknightly that long, but I already really like what I'm seeing. It's kind of interesting I'd run into this game today because I was just talking to someone yesterday how much I loved the original Thief: The Dark Project game, and here we are with what is basically a VR Thief game. I played through the short introduction tutorial in about 15 minutes, because that's all you really need to get the jist of this game. It's not complicated. It's not complex. It's a really simple game to understand. Stay hidden. Stay stealthy. Complete your tasks. That's pretty much it, and for such a simple game it's fun rating is rather high. There could have been a couple more things in the tutorial, with regards to arrows. It took me a minute to figure out that you should grab arrows from the tutorial "buckets" and store them by putting them over your shoulder. Also, if you look up you can see your arrow inventory above your head (where you grab them from). That was about the only thing missing from the quick tutorial. Speaking of weaponry... I actually really like the bow and arrow setup in this game. You can actually close your one eye, line up your shot down the arrow with the other, and get a fairly accurately aimed shot. With a little bit of practice on the tutorial dummies I was bloody Robin Hood in no time. The second weapon I was given was a wrist blade. Think Assassin's Creed, except with the blade on the top of the wrist instead of under it. I found this blade a little unruley, as it required you to hold the controller at a weird angle to get your "arm" to point in the right direction. I would think a more natural "straight" wrist would be the way to go here. Not going to dock points to the dev, because they might not actually have access to all the controllers to ensure it's properly aligned. Perhaps a setting should be added so you can fine-tune the angle of the wrist blade to your specific controller grip. The world of Unknightly is fairly basic, but appears much larger than it actually is. I like this. I felt like I was in a fairly large village even though movement throughout the area was somewhat on rails. If you focused on your tasks, you'd never know the map was much smaller than it appeared. This is old-school map building done very well. It's a skill that seems lost in a world of massive open-world maps that suddenly, and for no reason, come to a very abrupt end. All in all I have to give Unknightly a fairly good thumbs up rating. It's got a few quarks here and there, depending on what VR system you're using, but the developer is very active and does an excellent job responding to bug reports. For what it's worth, I certainly recommend this game, and highly recommend it for fans of the original Thief: The Dark Project. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For more no-nonsense reviews check out my curator page at; https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45052020/
If only it was finished ._. but can't dislike it
completely abandoned and outclass entirely by thief vr
dead game developpers does nor even respond. an hour of gameplay at best.
Waste of money, controlls were so hard to use, tutorial was hard to understand and i need the devs to make this simplier ):(
Watch this space, this game has potential. (reviewed early access) Theres a couple of issues like B being the Jump button instead of A (What?!? WHY!!!!) and choosing the right arrow can be a pain and for sprinting you have to hold down the thumbstick instead of clicking once like every other game (Which is not only uncomfortable it's also going to heavily wear down the thumbstick as other games have done in the past with previous index controllers Ive had) But its fun, and that's what's important, The controls and options are all there (Except for changing buttons) so theres no pesky "Comfort over playability BS" and its intuitive to play. You do feel kind of overpowered though, most of the enmies can be dispatched by simply waiting in front of them in a dark area of their patrol route then you can stab them in the face, there are knights which have protection all around but you can just run away from them if they ever find you, The game does need some enemies that actually pose a threat to the player, maybe some dogs or something, Im not sure. There is also a lack of missions to play, right now at the time of writing this, this game is a demo, a demo that can be completed in less than an hour so keep this in mind if you want to buy this now (Obviously there will be more to come so maybe grab a good deal on this game before it goes out of early access and the price goes up for later)
DOOKIE
The concept is good and I had high hope for this game, however the control are horrible. Sometime you start walking for no reason and you have to touch the the control pad in the reverse direction to stop. you have only 3 of the arrow type of the original thief game and they are basically useless since everyone have full plate and the light are either not extinguishable or just a candle that you can shut off with your finger. you have a dagger that you can use on non protected part of the enemy which is a good concept... however everyone in the game have full plate armour so you can only stab them in the face. There practically no loot and place to infiltrate like in the original thief. I still hope it will get better and develop as a good game.
So far it seems fairly unpolished. There is or was or maybe in the works, a 'button to crouch' option; I was not able to turn it on/use it. You get blocked a lot by boundaries while trying to parkour, not as cool as the videos on store seem. Overall waste of 37 minutes.
