Undusted: Letters from the Past

It's a short and sweet game with lovely cleaning mechanics. Clean objects with different tools, interact with the objects to uncover little easter eggs. The story is a little dark for my taste but it was still a great game and I'm glad to have played it.

If you love simple cleaning games to relax you, alongside the most devastatingly sad storyline you've heard in a while - boy is this game for you!!!! It really was incredibly beautiful but wow. If you have a tough relationship with any parents, maybe try playing this one on your own time and not on a live stream like me, haha.

Petit jeu bien sympathique, surtout pour poser son cerveau et nettoyer des petits objets du quotidien. Quelques outils sont là pour nous aider, selon notre patience et notre degré de maniaquerie. Le petit plus se trouve dans la narration : on suit une jeune femme qui va devoir retourner chez sa maman suite à un événement pas très joyeux ; pour le côté "reposant" c'est donc pas adapté pour tout le monde car on traite surtout de deuil familial. Ca reste une chouette expérience !

Undusted is a cleaning game that tells the story of a family through the objects they leave behind. As you clean items with sentimental value, you gradually uncover their history. It's a game about how families can fall apart and drift away because of unresolved grief. That said, I felt the narrative leans too heavily toward understanding the adults while showing less empathy for the children. Even so, the story resonated with me on a very personal level. As a cleaning game, I can't really compare Undusted to other games in the genre, but its core mechanics work well. Each cleaning tool has a distinct purpose, and anyone aiming for 100% completion will have to hunt down every last speck of dust—which can be a bit time-consuming. Has Undusted turned me into a huge fan of cleaning games? Definitely not. ...although maybe I should finally vacuum my apartment tomorrow... What truly sets the game apart, however, is how many everyday situations it portrays that feel instantly relatable. It often leaves you with an unresolved thought just as the cleaning begins, creating space to reflect on the characters' experiences—or perhaps even your own. Undusted shows that even something as ordinary as cleaning can become a meaningful space for memory, reflection, and introspection.

This game has a very simple gameplay loop. It it not far removed from being a visual novel. Unfortunately, the actual story is...bad. It's the same fairly generic 'processing trauma about a bad mother/daughter relationship' you've seen everywhere. Took less than 2 hours to beat, and by the 45 minute mark I was timing it.
