Undetected is a stealth game heavily inspired by Metal Gear series. I'm not a Metal Gear fan, so I have no idea how successful Undetected is when trying to replicate the experience Metal Gear games offer. The game is not bad. The bad outweighs the good, unfortunately. The game suffers a lot from crucial design choices. First of all, you have no lethal option. You can't kill enemies. You can't grab them from behind. You can't knock them out permanently. After you knock down an enemy, they get up after a few seconds. The game gives you different bombs and ammo types, but none of them is worth using because they all serve the same purpose. Immobolize or knock down the enemy for a few seconds. You can lean on walls, but you can't move while leaning. The game limits you so much that it becomes a patience test after a while. These are tolerable, but the biggest crime in this game is the camera. The camera is so zoomed in that you literally can't see two steps ahead of you. You have to constantly switch between first-person and third-person modes to see what's ahead of you. The game doesn't have a radar or minimap either. The game has radar, but in order to use it, you have to sit still and press the space button. You have to watch the animation, then you can see the area. You better memorize it because when you move, the game goes back to that awful camera. I really liked boss fights. Every one of them is unique and requires different methods to beat them. The soundtrack is fine too. Overall, Undetected is a fun game if you can tolerate the camera. The camera literally makes some parts of the game unplayable. If you are okay with that and if you like stealth games, I'm sure you can have fun while playing Undetected
This looks like a love letter to Metal Gear Solid but it's just clunky and frustrating. The camera is all overhead unless you're leaning against a wall. The controls are terrible however and you can't move while leaning on a wall. You get kind of close to the corner but enough to feel like you shouldn't be seen and nope, you get spotted anyway. When leaning, you'll find yourself constantly playing with the controls to try to move yourself into the ideal position. The main frustrating part is that enemies can see you from a long distance and you have no idea where you're safe or not. Enemies can spot you off screen so you're constantly caught changing between a first person camera which doesn't allow you to move or an overhead thermal view which also doesn't allow you to move. It really makes the game feel like trial and error while you reach no areas, have to find a safe route, and hope you don't get spotted. I got to the power plant and just outside it is all lit up so you can't hide in the shadows or in tall grass. You're forced to react quickly as you find new areas for the first time filled with enemies. I wasn't having much fun up to that point with the game mechanics and getting to that section where I'd just progress a little further every time until I got spotted just killed the game for me. There's no way to become "undetected" until you leave the screen or die so getting to these larger areas just gets more and more punishing whenever you get spotted which is incredibly frustrating when you get spotted by someone off screen before you even see them. I really loved the idea of a MGS style game but this just isn't it. The stealth and controls aren't good enough and to add onto that, it just feels increasingly frustrating when you get caught.
So I never played MGS 1 or 2 and this game clearly is inspired by the early MGS games. I don't know if some things are copied 1 for 1 from the original game or it's a change that the developer made but either way, the game's not a good modern stealth game. MGS1 you had a radar that showed you enemy positions and view cones at all times. This game you have a "scout" button that you need to stand still to use and it takes a second or so to activate and then another second to deactivate in order to pan the camera further, making the gameplay incredibly slow in comparison. The usual camera is probably equally as tight on your character than MGS and panning gives you only a single centimeter. You can hug a wall to get a good viewpoint like MGS but yoy can't shimmy across it. I also managed to hug a wall and still get spotted from behind the wall since ny arm was poking out. Something that shouldn't be possible (for video game logic) or something I can alleviate by moving. The visual fidlity vs performance is quite bad on the Steam Deck for no good reason. The main thing that I want is smooth frames and good contrast between light and dark, so I put everything on low except medium shadows (low shadows has low contrast). I still got inconsistent frames. Due to my inexperience with early MGS, I don't know what other things in the game are an improvement or downgrade. What I can say though is it doesn't feel like enough was modernized and doesn't feel good to play as a modern top down stealth game.
Inspired by Metal Gear in looks, but they should have copied more from the source material. Given the same perspective, MGS1 thrived with a minimap/radar and the ability to observe your surroundings in First Person. Undetected's version of the overhead view requires you to be stationary and press a button... it takes a second to enter and exit this mode as well. You find bullets on the ground, one or two at a time. They all seem to be nonlethal, as well. Don't expect to be able to knock out guards you sneak up on. You do not kill, you just get various stun options. By default, your weapon cannot injure an enemy, it's solely for triggering lights and switches. So then, the focus is on sneaking, but the implementation of stealth, including the lack of a persistent overhead view, leaves much to be desired. I played this for a few minutes and can safely say, it's not for me.
Positive Review, but... I'm into retro games - not everyone is. This is someone's labor of love. It's an older style stealth shooter and all that implies EXCEPT it comes with full controller support built in. The controls and view angles are awkward (that's part of the experience); you have to use your abilities carefully to have the best odds of beating the levels - for example the map is often useful, but in some areas foliage gets in the way - that's on purpose. Definitely old school gameplay, sometimes you have to use combinations of your resources to get past the guards. Older gamers and retrogamers would likely enjoy this. Everyone else, maybe not so much. This could be a great stealth game however enemies spotting you off screen, the inconsistent viewing angles making me constantly have to swap between third-person, somewhat helpful bird's eye and greater bird's eye view with red overlay plus effects just to get a semblance of my surroundings ruins this for me.
Описание:
Стелс экшн с очень трешовой графикой и крайне неудобным геймплеем. Даже не знаю что еще сказать... В нее просто неприятно играть. Повелся на отзывы но в итоге хватило первого уровня. "Mom, can we have MGS?" Mom: "We have MGS at home!" MGS at home:
UNDETECTED is a Nintendo Switch game that somehow is on Steam as well. It's basically a ripoff of Metal Gear Solid, only really bad. You are supposed to stealth around various buildings, interact with stuff, all presented in a 3D view that wildly changes the camera on you for arbitrary positioning reasons... it's annoying. But you end up shooting more than anything. The game is presented somewhat poorly... but I will say I think this is a genuine project, if badly made. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the mid 2000s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. The controls and game handling are notably very clunky and unsmooth here. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing. They dropped the ball on this one. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. Another defect in the game caused by the console-peasant-centric design is the intolerably bad camera controls. There's no effective mouselook, and control of the viewing angles is deliberately outside of reasonable control from the user. It flips around when you move, I guess it's trying to be helpful but it's really annoying. This defect springs from the limitations of inferior console peasant children's toy gamepads, but on PC we don't have this limitation due to KB+M controls... however, the developer deliberately chose to arrogantly foist this handicap onto PC gamers. Out of spite, or laziness, it's unclear, regardless, once more console peasants and console devs have made gaming worse for everyone. Because this is designed for handheld/portable gaming appliances, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the low power handheld gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the mobile game developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for low power handhelds forces upon a game. While this might run well on a Steam Deck, we must remember the vast majority of gamers here are gaming on PC. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. UNDETECTED didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for finding the power station, the first major objective, trivial to get, but less than 24 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 12 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? UNDETECTED has the almost scam-like price of $15 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $15 asking price for this game could get you games like "Alien: Isolation", "Stellaris" or "Rust". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this. This game features a number of suspicious, likely fake positive reviews. The reviews all appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and all have very similar wording and writing style. Immediately after this huge peak of reviews, reviews (and player counts) for the game dropped incredibly sharply. This is highly unusual given the very low quality of the game and poor player counts. The "Positive" review score on this game should be taken with a large grain of salt.
