Started as a peasant, ended up a medieval mogul with a side hustle in goat herding and ale brewing. My serfs were too busy farming, crafting, and surviving politics to worry about me, but hey, at least my cottage had a killer garden! 🏡🌾 8/10, would farm again. Follow my curator page for more feudal adventures, sheep shearing, and games where I’m the lord of the land… or at least the cottage. 🏰🐑✨ https://store.steampowered.com/curator/42602807-Osiris-Reviews/
The UI is buggy and unintuitive. While trying to juggle the tutorial and interface pop-ups, I got locked in an endless loop of reopening tutorial windows. There are windows to open windows to select tabs to change tabs to scroll down only to realize the thing your looking for isn't there and now you have to figure how to climb back out of the labyrinth without accidentally cancelling the activity you previously assigned. Actual medieval farm chores would be more fun and require less sustained effort. Like the game idea, though.
Fun enough, but the interface is clunky and actions inconvenient, economy and trade are nonsensical. Was really hoping for an update sooner than 6 months after purchasing (still waiting) to finish the glaring issues. Bought a few of their earlier games around the same time, and while they aren't all great, they are at least finished.
Nice game. Single developer. The atmosphere is nice and it's interesting to learn. The GUI gets tiresome after a while and there are a few bugs. Overall $!5 is a reasonable price for several hours enjoyment, and the developer is worth supporting. They are making regular updates to the game. Nice concept, nice atmosphere. Recommended
This game is riddled with bugs, the tutorial is awful, and there's way too much micromanagement. I can ONLY recommend it if that's something you're willing to deal with to play a good medieval family life sim. It could use a LOT of polish, but underneath all the issues there's a genuinely great game!
So I really like this game. When I first started playing I was addicted. However after several hours I start to see a fundamental flaw in the games design. MICROMANAGEMENT THE GAME. It wants you to do literally everything by hand. Every...little...thing... Make them cook. Make them scavenge the forest. make them farm. Make them fertilize the farm. Weed the farm. Harvest the farm. Seed the farm. Chop the wood in the forest, scavenge the forest, dig up mushrooms. Cook a meal this way or that way. Bake the bread here. Fish here. Gather clay here. Build tools here. Travel to town to sell this or buy that. Milk your cows. Shave your sheep. Gather their poop for fertilizer. Craft them different food. Plant a garden in your home. Nurture that garden and all that it entails. While you're doing all that.... Make sure they attend church. Make sure they donate to the church. make sure they pay taxes. make sure their not bored so tell each of your family members...one by one...to play with this person or talk to this person. Did I mention everything you tell yoru people to do has a negative connotation to it? Wanna go to church? Then you get bored! Wanna hang out with friends? Then IF you have the write tool it deteriates like you'er smashing it. Wanna talk with them? Just....just talk? Welp your religion goes down! And time passes by so fricken quick. I don't know exactly how quickly the days pass for the game developer but I'm pretty sure I can go to church. Gossip with my friends, Go fishing, cook dinner and share a meal with my wife all in one day. But in this game, you can only do one thing a day. It makes managing your stats infuriating. Like I said. I love the game and I think it's done pretty well for the most part. But it's also annoying the crap out of me. Just...know what you'er getting into. It's a pretty realistic simulator of what it's like to be a peasant in england but it's too damn full of micromanagement and I HATE micromanagement.
This is a realistic simulator of life as a medieval peasant. It is punishing, difficult to advance, repetitive, grindy and I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love it. I love it, I love everything about it, one of my favorite indie finds of the past several years. 10/10 But it's not going to be for everyone. My husband has gotten very into board games this past year, and I discovered long after I initially played this that it is clearly heavily influenced by the classic board game Agricola. Imagine a farm sim designed by Uwe Rosenberg and you have conceptualized Under the Yoke. In fact, I would say the best way to figure out if you will like it is probably to find out if you like euro-style worker placement board games, because that's functionally what this is -- it just brings the breadth and depth that you need a video game for. Something like the ever-changing market and the large roster of individual townspeople who marry, have children, etc., on their own wouldn't be possible for a board game; Under the Yoke fundamentally does an incredible job of identifying how it can use its medium to improve the genre and does it with aplomb. Of course, I knew none of those back when I initially fell in love with it. I just loved how punishing and detailed and unique among farming games it was, and its lovely art and attention to minutiae hooked me. It's a tragedy this developer doesn't have more attention. I bought their latest, Silk Road II, and can't wait to try it out.
2.4/10 Under The Broke - game braking bugs left and right awful UI that has you closing every windowed box you open + art style
This game is fun, hypnotic, and addicting. You control a peasant living in a village and have to survive the day-to-day life at a time that was hard to survive. I particularly love the fact that the "hunger" stat is not hunger per se, it is, actually, "taste", so, how delicious is the food you ingest each month, it is refreshing and feels real, I'm not filling the "hunger" meter, I'm satisfying my need for delicious food, don't believe that you will survive for long without any food tho, if you run out of food you will die, but remember that you can get the food from the woods, not only the fields. So, people, get this game, it is amazing, you will love it!
