In 2026 this doesn't hold up. Compared to Uncharted 1 which holds up great, you get: - more cutscenes - way more walking simulator - way more waiting for npcs to be able to advance - way more and way longer climbing sections - more (terrible) stealth - less balls to the wall action I am just baffled. This is not a game you can just start a new playthrough and get to the fun within a few minutes. For an action-adventure game with no crafting, no item economy and no upgrade-system, there is very little here that warrants being a 'sequel'. Gameplay has basically not moved since the first game. There is just less now because of movie-slop. The controls are also horrible. No dedicated button for running or crouching, it doesn't feel good to play. And turn off DLSS, lots of graphical problems with it turned on.
Uncharted is the genre reference for good reasons which are apparent here. Entertaining, very high production value and best action adventure cinema. But beside all the spectacle it brings no new ideas to the table and the story is basically just okay, standard fare. You will get exactly what you expect but will not be surprised in any way.
The graphics of this game honestly stunning, from the detailed jungles and mountains to the beautiful seas and pirate ships. There's also a lot of climbing, and poor Nathan Drake can never seem to catch a break. Every time he finds a path forward, something collapses, breaks, or gets blocked, forcing him to find another way around. Someone please let this man take a vacation, he really need it :v The combat for The Thief's End feels satisfying, I especially love using the sniper over the rifle, which adds an exciting edge to the gameplay. Besides that, the puzzles were also a highlight for me, especially in Lost Legacy, where they felt fun to solve and added a nice break between the action sequences. The story in The Thief's End unfolds like a blockbuster movie which is cool, with cutscenes that blend so naturally into the gameplay. I really appreciate the dynamic relationship between Nathan Drake and his wife, Elena Fisher, as well as the strong brotherhood between the Drake brothers. I also enjoyed the epilogue. It was a wonderful way to wrap up Nathan's story and gave a satisfying sense of closure after everything he had been through.
