About
Welcome, Brave Hero, to a World Lost in Time.
Embark on a roguelite adventure that pays tribute to the golden era of gaming—specifically, the nostalgic visuals and gameplay reminiscent of the PS1.
For generations, your family has fought relentlessly to end the reign of the Tyrant, an ancient being who seeks absolute power and knowledge. The journey will push you to your limits, as each run through the ever-changing realms brings new challenges and opportunities.
The world is a brutal, decaying shadow of what it once was, with fallen cities and lost empires turned into treacherous landscapes.

● Gear is Your Lifeline. As in true roguelite fashion, survival hinges on what you find. Unlock new weapons and armor and find hidden Skull Altars to upgrade your power., and arm yourself for the endless journey ahead. Without these, you are nothing.
● Roguelite Progression, Soulslike Combat. Each run is unique. Engaging combat mechanic —requiring timing, skill, and a bit of luck—determine your fate. Fight, die, learn, and rise again as the challenge intensifies with every attempt.
● Ever-Evolving Worlds and Relentless Foes. Every biome and encounter is procedurally generated, with enemies and bosses ready to strike you down at every turn. No two runs are the same.
● A Love Letter to PS1-Era Aesthetics. Tyrants Realm is not just a roguelite, it’s a homage to the gritty, low-poly visuals of the PS1 era. Immerse yourself in this retro-inspired world, but beware—survival is anything but simple.

Pretty bad...

Not the worst game I have played, but a mediocre souls like nonetheless. The dodge is in four directions, which screws you when you want to dodge to the corner. In true small budget roguelike fashion, so many weapons and pickups are just completely useless. After three runs, I didn't find any shield that had better stats than one I picked up in the first level. Bosses also leave a ton to be desired. They just hit you with long wind up moves, you block, land a heavy blow, rinse repeat. This game also is copying the homework of so many annoying action games nowadays where enemies have overly long wind up animations before instantly hitting you with an overhead attack in one frame practically. The parry and dodge both feel so clunky so a lot of the game is a block heavy experience with the same four enemies over and over again, with the same boss strategies over and over again. Lock on and camera leave a lot to be desired as well. Hopefully they can take what they learned with this game and make something better next time.
This is a pretty solid banger. Aside from coins not magnetizing to you unless an inch away, and the camera being a potential run ender when locked on to an enemy near a wall. The game's simple combat, abilities, and gear combinations feel punchy and varied just enough to switch loadouts. However, 8 hours in when I beat the final boss for a second time, and was told a third run was needed for the actual ending. I installed some cheats to speedrun the last run for the true ending, due to being tired of the limited worlds, enemies, and loadouts.
It's a fun, bite-sized souls-like experience. Some inspiration was taken from Dead Cells, where you unlock item blueprints to be used in future runs, and items come in three categories which can be boosted throughout a run. The idea here is fantastic; Souls-like combat you can just hop into whenever you want. Now for the negatives... - After about 3-4hrs, you'll likely have exhausted all content. The only reason to continue is for achievements. - There are a lot of unlockable weapons, but they are all about the same. Each category has different move sets and reach, but every weapon in that category is the same with slightly different stats. - With such a large weapon pool, and most of those weapons being bad or just boring, you're forced to play with something you don't like most of the time. - Bosses are quite easy. The problem is in each run you're not worried about whether or not you'll finish, you just carry on to get more coins to unlock more weapons which end up being just a slightly different version of what you already have. Overall, if I had stopped playing after about 6hrs I would've had a better experience. But I like getting achievements, and this was one of those times where I just forced myself to continue until it was finished. And the longer I played, the more I noticed the lack of variety. Going after achievements is a me problem, which is why this is a positive review. The game itself is fine for what it is. I would recommend getting it on sale though. Skip the DLC unless you want the achievements as it adds minimal content.
if you like how specifically dark souls feels. honestly this is a lovely game. i enjoy it a ton. the story, as little as there is, is that you are in prison and need to break out and fight your way through a multitude of areas to get up to the castle and defeat the evil wizard. upon doing so, you find out that he has twisted time and space and place you back into your cell. but this time you can pick a harder difficulty. each time you beat the game you unlock one of the two harder difficulties, adding elite enemies that are tougher and hit harder, as well as limiting how much healing and more so. gameplay is literally just dark souls. it feels like it and plays like it, and a lot of the animations are just dark souls. and i honestly love it for that. it is so small and simple and fun, and on the base difficulties it isn't too tough. even if you die multiple times getting to the end for the first time. it was kind of a nice relaxing bite sized souls like. as for the gear. weapons are pretty standard. you find blueprints as you explore of kill enemies which you can use your gold to unlock for use. the weapons, which there is a good variety, ae mostly just for preference or fun since they are all just weapons with no real unique side to them. they all have a two hit string and a single heavy attack. the armor and shields is where the game gets fun. with armor you only get defense and speed, but otherwise most armors are function the same, no roll speed difference, or run speed differences really matter. but armor comes with skills, or perks. some let you have a special move like throwing a weapon, or pulling enemies in, or even increasing max health on kill. shields also have perks to them such as infinite rolling, or damaging enemies when you block, or even simple things like increasing your defense even more. which can all lead to some really fun, or goofy, or overpowered combinations. and it is a TON of fun to just find something that completely breaks the game. the game looks fine, it is kind of like... ps2 graphics? even though you can add some retro things like dithering, or crt scan lines or the like. each area is unique with different enemy types from each that change how you have to fight. weapons and armor and shields are all different and similar and are fun to swap around when you aren't trying to win. music is very simple. nothing to really talk about. it gets the job done and it does it well without trying too hard. each area with it's own ambiance, and each boss with a short little theme.
Signed of pretentious poser project: 1. Forced hand holding tutorial for idiots, ended with forced death. 2. CRT effect that is over blooreda, over bright with washed out colour. 3. Stiff as ♥♥♥♥ combat. Dev does no understand what to respect players intellect, autonomy and experience. Has no knowledge of what retro quality is. And also has no idea what made Souls enjoyable. It is not fun form Me. At least, it's not enough fun, compared to other things avaible.
