Turmoil

Got Turmoil from some old Humble Bundle, probably would not have been on my radar otherwise, since it is not very graphically impressive light management sim of oil\gas rush in wild west. So plot is kinda present - you are to earn money via oil\gas trade after getting it out of mother earth embrace. Using those funds, you need to develop your hub “city” and get ahead of other natural resources magnates. And that’s kinda it. Audio is there and it has western motif but this is no Ennio Morricone and iconic ost is out of games budget. Other sounds are pretty basic, but it is fitting to overall tone. Graphics aspect is clearly seen on screenshots, nothing impressive, but it has some style and does the job decently. Gameplay is pretty much what covers lions share of attraction for the title, though it might be true for most games, but with other stuff not being that great, what you do in Turmoil should do most work. It consists of two parts - town and gathering fields. In town you get upgrades, open new buildings that give those upgrades or some new mechanics, bid for new oil and gas locations and so on. Second part are gathering fields themselves, where you’d bespending most of your time. Btw, time there is very limited, you got timer and some starter funds that could be used to search underground or construct pipes, storage and transportation facilities. Since clock is always ticking, you have to make sure to balance your spendings and time it takes for resources recovering and transportation to actually earn some profit in the end when timer reaches zero. That’s pretty much it, so base price may not feel justified, but with discount, which happens often it’s worth your time, since this does not require much commitment and could be picked up and left on the fly.
