I agree with many other on here. Fantastic concept and could be a great game...if the beat detection worked properly.

This is an odd one. I say give it a shot if on sale. It feels like my taste in music doesn't fit it very well. It is older 10+ years old and has very few video/resolution options. The game looks pretty bad on my ultra wide screen in full screen but also to small in windowed mode. I won this game in a giveaway so it was free for me but it normally only goes for 5 USD normally.

https://youtu.be/-vhxbxKSfDc Take on match-3 gameplay that builds levels from any music track thrown at it. At the core this sounds like a good idea, but even based on the provide tracks the levels are woefully short and don't produce an experience all that compelling across multiple game modes. The ability to generate levels based on audio tracks to produce infinite levels falls short if none of them are interesting to play.
A lot of games have tried to incorporate rhythm and music into their gameplay as an inseparable part of it. On one hand, we have stuff like Rez, Lumines, Tetris Effect, and Bullets Per Minute that perfectly incorporate rhythm into their gameplay. On the another hand we have stuff like AudioSurf and Melody's Escape that give you the power to play with your own music, analyzing them thoroughly and giving you satisfactory results... and then we have Turba. The store page claims that Turba "provides a gameplay experience unlike any you have encountered before" and that is %100 correct; you probably have never seen such an awful implementation of rhythm into a video game. Though it is not the idea that has problems, the game's features have ultimately resulted in it becoming an unenjoyable mess. Turba claims that "the blocks on the game board generate and move to the beat of the song you choose", yet it is not true. The game utterly fails to analyze your music tracks properly and detect the beats, making the gameplay feel like you are playing a generic puzzle game with a random, irrelevant music playing in the background. Even if you do manage to find a music tracks that works great with the game, your are still not able to enjoy playing as the gameplay is also badly made. The gameplay consists of selecting the blocks on the playing field in a group of 3 or above by pressing left mouse button or dragging the mouse on them, and then removing them by pressing right mouse button. You can select and remove 1 or 2 blocks as well, but doing that causes a score reduction as well as the blocks turning grey, which means they are unselectable and undestroyable until they decay on their own. Seems harmless, but that changes when we get to know that the playing field is constantly moving. The playing field moves by the beat of your music; which means it has no rhyme and pattern to it, as we have previously established the beat detection simply does not work. Not only that, there are also bomb blocks that the game constantly spams (and often in hard to reach places) which explode after a certain number of beats have passed, turning a 3x3 field of normal blocks into grey blocks. It doesn't take much effort to see how chaotic and frustrating it can get to just select blocks, with the playing field's movement and grey blocks' decay constantly changing the arrangement of everything. Not to mention bomb blocks making faster songs (e.g. Through the Fire and Flames) absolutely impossible to go through as their timer can go down faster than you can react to them. Finally, I just have to talk about the game's audiovisual presentation because... God, it's so uninspired. Turba's original soundtrack is very underwhelming for a rhythm game. Usually, you expect a rhythm-based game to have a unique soundtrack of their own, something pleasant to listen to while you are playing, but Turba's soundtrack is so generic and unmemorable. And this generic-ness is also visible in the interface as well, with bland designs and claustrophobic placement of elements. Overall, I don't think Turba is worth playing. Don't waste your time with this game and go for something that actually works as intended and feels fun to play.

Unpleasant to play the game.
This old game is a real shame. A match-3 where you can load your own music and matching to the beat gets you bonus points is such an easy win of a game that is unfortunately let down by its beat detection being absolutely horrible. I don't say that lightly, I don't like slandering old games like this and I genuinely only review games I want people to try (hence the recommendation) but it is really bad. If you can stomach it, this is a weirdly one-of-a-kind game on steam. The modes and powerups are fun and it is pretty challenging, and not just because it's hard to play to the rhythm when even the game doesn't know what it is. It's worth a shot.
