The Title of the game tells you everything, you are surfing/riding your music. It detects the beats and rythm of your song and moves the track to it. Works best with electronic music.
playing audiosurf still makes it easy to revisit older tracks—especially artists like basshunter—that fits the game well. for those who remember it from release years, it often brings back a specific era of pc use, with flash games running in the background, low-quality .mp3 libraries on local storage, and messaging through AOL or MSN.
a classic. this is a rhythm game which is procedurally generated based on the song you have picked to play, which, honestly, still feels fun to play to this very day

After 17 years I'm still coming back to it from time to time and it's still the same joy like the first time
It is the year 2012. You boot up Audiosurf and turn Toby Fox's music into a rhythm game rollercoaster. It is the year 2026. You once again boot up Audiosurf and turn Toby Fox's music into a rhythm game rollercoaster. Within that span of time, a lot has changed, and yet not a lot at all, if you really think about it. It is as though, upon revisiting this silly little game, you have come right back home. This one's always been a favorite of mine, thanks to a friend who introduced me to it by livestreaming themself playing some of our favorite albums in this game back in the day. If you're old-fashioned like me and like to keep a library of MP3s (or other such music files) on hand, the possibilities are unlimited with this one.
Brian Eno would love this game!
I, personally, find Audiosurf 1 to be superior to the second game. Despite its godawful UI, unskippable menu animations, crashing, and flashbanging white screens, I genuinely prefer the feeling of the gameplay over Audiosurf 2. Unfortunately, it is plagued by a handful of issues if you intend to play this game via Proton: - Frequent crashes. This game crashes all the time on Proton versions 9+. Changing to Proton 7 or 8 seem to mitigate a lot of it. - Missing fonts. This game uses a bunch of fonts that are not technically free, but are provided with Microsoft Windows (E.g. Arial, Consolas, Times New Roman). Proton will substitute missing fonts with Linux's built in font library, but the game expects the fonts to have a specific size. Liberation Sans is not the same size as Arial, so it will cause text drift in the menus. Fixable by installing Protontricks and running `Protontricks 12900 corefonts` in the terminal. (Always double check what terminal commands do before entering them, malicious people exist) - Directory Confusion. The game expects a C:/ drive on your PC. Navigating to your Music folder takes slightly longer than expected, but your root directory is located under Z:/ in the game's directory menu. Check Z:/home/[USERNAME]/Music. - Archaic game engine. This game uses Quest3D as its engine, which is unstable, unsupported, and fairly locked down. Don't expect to be able to do much modding. The second game was built in Unity, so if you want modding go with that one. Overall, it's fine. Not one of my favorite games of all time, but I enjoy it nonetheless. It was obviously made with passion, and I'm just a sucker for rhythm games that let me use my own music library. I'd give it around a 7/10
