TUNIC

Tunic is a charming and fairly unique puzzle game. There have been comparisons to Outer Wilds in how the game has you engage with the puzzle aspect, which while I would agree with, if that is all you're looking for, I would probably look elsewhere. The combat is reminiscent of Dark Souls (hence the Souls-like tag), and while there are settings to make the difficulty lower, it is present throughout the entire game. The puzzle aspect is quite satisfying, and in the earlier portions of the game, is pretty clever in how they hide things away from you. There were quite a bit of "Aha!" moments I had. With that being said, it is largely based on your knowledge of the game and its mechanics, so it would be best to go in blind if you want the full experience, though unlike Outer Wilds where the story is deeply ingrained with the puzzle aspect, you can probably get away with a couple of the earlier spoilers. I will say the endgame puzzles (which are _technically_ optional), start to get pretty obtuse. I would say up until those endgame puzzles, everything is pretty solvable with a bit of experimentation and thinking. While I could solve a good chunk of the later puzzles, I did end up looking up some of them. The combat is fairly standard I think, so not much for me to comment on there. The only thing I would say is don't be afraid to use consumables. The story, while there, wasn't anything too crazy, though there is one reveal that genuinely gave me goosebumps. Overall, quite an enjoyable game, though it may not gel with everyone well.

Finally got around to getting to this game in my backlog...Glad I did! This game reminds me of the NES days of getting a game second hand from a rental store and trying to figure out the information. Some of the Puzzles can be extremely complex and would have you wandering in circles for a while! (thankfully I looked at a walkthru at some points). Music and the atmosphere is amazing! 8.5/10 - Give it a try!

I love this game so much The puzzles can be seriously tough at times. There was more than one moment where I just sat there staring at the screen wondering what on earth I was supposed to do, but figuring things out yourself is one of the best parts. It never just hands you the answers. The art style is absolutely beautiful and the music is amazing too. Everything has this really cosy but mysterious feeling that kept pulling me back in. It's definitely not an easy game and you'll probably get stuck now and then, but if you stick with it it's 100% worth it. One of those games that stays with you after you've finished it.
