Tsunagari Chess School is a deceptively framed visual novel from Mintkuru that begins as a relaxed, character-driven school story and gradually reveals itself as something far more unsettling. On the surface, it presents a familiar setup: you arrive at a specialized academy, meet a small cast of distinct personalities, and spend your time building relationships through daily interactions and light gameplay activities. The presence of “chess” in the title suggests a strategic foundation, but in reality, the game uses it more as a thematic anchor than a fully developed mechanic. What ultimately defines the experience is not its systems, but the way it manipulates tone and expectation. The early portion of the game leans heavily into slice-of-life storytelling. Conversations are casual, characters are introduced through everyday situations, and the pacing encourages players to settle into a routine of exploration and social interaction. Each character has a clear archetype and personality, making it easy to form initial attachments. The writing in this phase is approachable and often charming, creating a sense of comfort that feels intentional. It builds familiarity, encouraging players to invest in the setting before any major shifts occur. This grounding is important, because it gives weight to the changes that come later. As the story progresses, cracks begin to appear in the game’s seemingly ordinary world. Small inconsistencies, tonal shifts, and moments of unease start to surface, gradually pushing the narrative into darker territory. Eventually, the game abandons its lighthearted facade and embraces psychological tension, introducing themes and events that recontextualize everything that came before. This transition is one of the game’s strongest elements. It is not entirely subtle, but it is effective in creating a sense of disorientation, as the player realizes that the world they thought they understood is far more unstable than it first appeared. The narrative structure supports this transformation through branching paths and hidden content. Player choices influence how relationships develop and which aspects of the story are revealed, encouraging multiple playthroughs to uncover different perspectives. There are secrets embedded within the game that only become apparent after revisiting earlier sections with new context, giving the experience a layered quality. For players who enjoy piecing together fragmented narratives, this design adds a level of engagement that goes beyond a single linear playthrough. Where the game becomes more inconsistent is in its gameplay execution. Despite its title, chess itself is not a central or deeply explored mechanic. Instead, interactions that resemble battles or challenges are simplified and often abstract, lacking the strategic depth one might expect. Later in the game, additional gameplay elements are introduced, including more action-oriented sequences, but these feel underdeveloped and sometimes disconnected from the rest of the experience. Difficulty can spike unexpectedly, and the lack of clear explanation for certain mechanics can lead to confusion. These sections interrupt the narrative flow rather than enhancing it, highlighting a disconnect between the game’s storytelling ambitions and its mechanical design. Pacing also fluctuates as the game moves forward. The early sections are steady and engaging, but the transition into darker territory is accompanied by uneven progression. Some moments are effective in building tension, while others feel prolonged or awkwardly placed. The balance between narrative and gameplay becomes less stable, and this can affect immersion, particularly when the player is pulled out of the story by unclear or frustrating mechanics. The game’s strongest moments are those where it focuses purely on atmosphere and character interaction, allowing its narrative to take the lead. Visually, the game adopts a straightforward anime-inspired style that serves its purpose without drawing too much attention to itself. Character portraits are expressive enough to convey emotion, and the environments, while simple, provide a consistent backdrop for the unfolding story. The contrast between the bright, ordinary school setting and the darker elements that emerge later is handled effectively, reinforcing the game’s thematic shift. Sound design and music play an important role in this transition, subtly guiding the player from a relaxed tone into something more tense and unsettling. In the end, Tsunagari Chess School is less about its mechanics and more about its willingness to subvert expectations. It builds a familiar framework only to dismantle it, using contrast as its primary tool for creating impact. While its gameplay systems lack polish and its pacing can be uneven, it succeeds in delivering a memorable narrative experience for players who are open to its unconventional approach. It is not a game that excels in every area, but it has a clear creative identity and moments that linger long after it ends. Rating: 6/10

As for a game it wasnt that bad. It was heavily inspired by ddlc and its kinda obvious. However the game in itself is good I personally enjoyed it but the fact that you cant pick when to save is really annoying. I liked it but its really just a ripoff ddlc. 6/10
10/10 perfect game
Holy scam The game is a cheap copy of Mirai nikki and Doki Doki with the same update schedule as Geometry Dash. This game isn't original and the fighting system is so ahhhhh The worse 4 dollars i spent in my entire life.....
