A combination of city builder and resource management, Truck City feels a wee bit like if Sim City met the traffic management of Cities: Skylines. Truck City has a handful of missions for you to complete, generally to build up and sell a specific number of a resource or hit a certain technological requisite. Roads leading in / out of town will be where your trucks will spawn in, heading towards whatever loading ports you have constructed next to an industrial area. Industrial zones will always require a loading port, factory, and output zones, although input zones are only required for factories building a new product; mines and the like only outputting ores for pickup. Clicking on an industrial zone will let you set the priority for a particular area, something I was usually setting to maximum every time I needed a product to get moving. Roads are done up in two-way streets and one-way roads, letting you guide traffic a bit better as your city becomes denser with activity. I found it best to spread things out a little more than you usually might, just to give traffic a better chance at a more efficient flow and to not have trucks get stuck. Trucks will automatically despawn after a certain amount of time, but can be manually despawned after selecting a specific truck. Lights can be added to intersections, even setting the timer on them, should you please; I didn't discover this was a thing until I accidentally clicked on an intersection about nine hours into my ten-hour play time. Trucks can be individually customized to carry specific resources, which went quite a long way towards making sure that there was always X number of trucks moving needed resources around. Money comes in by selling the resources you produce, trucks shuttling them out of town for coin. Markets can be monitored via the appropriate menu, the price of each resource shown, seemingly being the same regardless of if you sell or purchase it. Prices can be monitored via wee graphs on the market menu, showing the fluctuations based on the amount of product you are selling or buying. Research is done by constructing different types of science, then having a truck cart it over to the research centre. There are four types of science required by the tech tree, each needing you to be at a higher level of complexity when it comes to overall city construction. Completing research will give you a higher number of overall trucks, faster truck speed, faster loading / unloading, better efficiency and production at your factories, help with market prices, and unlock more complex manufactorums, as well as components for space travel. Truck City isn't a bad time at all, there is just a significant amount of waiting to be done, even with upgrades; this is a game that would benefit greatly from being able to increase the flow of time, as hours of my playtime was spent waiting around - I even went and baked muffins just to give the city time to operate and build resources / research. It would also be beneficial to have stuck trucks despawn automatically a bit faster on their own to help deal with traffic accumulation. I'd recommend having a show on in the background while you play, as it'll help pass the time a bit easier. There is a demo for Truck City, which I would recommend checking out before purchasing the full product, it'll give you a better idea of gameplay and the flow of how the mechanics function. I do recommend Truck City, I just think it'll be more for a niche audience. I do want to thank the developer for sending a key my way, also for being the first to reach out to me through the Curator Connect program - it really means a lot. Truck City is a logistics and resource allocation game that is also a puzzle as to how to proceed. It is similar to the “Logistical” game series but without the towns and businesses. You produce resources to feed factories that feed other factories that feed other factories until you achieve your objectives. You spend most of you time checking that your many factories are running efficiently. Some factories are over producing which causes storages to seize up, other factories are receiving no resources. Traffic jams are occurring. So, you have to track down the constant problems and rectify them. Your brain is constantly busy, but game progress is slow. You can’t achieve your objectives quickly. You are forced to slow down and be methodical. It is also a puzzle as to what to do next. Do I need to do research to progress or to build a new different factory? The research tree is massive. What do I have to do in order to progress? This can be frustrating. So, you are forced to just try everything and hope you did the right thing. It works out okay eventually. Truck City is an intriguing, simple little (BIG) logistics/puzzle game that will keep your brain busy and give your patience a good work out. It is also a little bit addictive as you try to keep your economy running smoothly. Highly recommended.
I've just played a few hours and I'm happily surprised about this game. Classic/retro Sim city type of visuals with traffic and transportation management. Immersive (& a bit addictive) soundtrack. The Missions are intuitive but challenging. Nice big little game with huge potential!
Exactly what you would hope for: retro style, simple tasks, with ever expanding options and customization. Also, you can rename all your delivery trucks to Pablo.
