I find the Zeal series to be fairly mediocre, but charming. Of all the games in the series, I was surprised to find I liked Trizeal the most. The gimmick of swapping your weapons is not mindblowing nor is it amazingly implemented, but it is just oldschool fun. I feel like the level design in this is Triangle Service at their best. Xiizeal is good too, for the record.
the game is: eh. Very slow pace. Perhaps, the slowest shmup pace I've ever played in my life which dates back to the days of Tiger Heli. I guess I prob would have beat it first go around if I hadn't tapped on a second controller that was plugged in which I think ate a credit? So I assume you get 2 extra credits shared by the players. Music sounds like its the same song repeating. But maybe it's b/c they use the same synth in several tracks? Well. Trizeal was on my wishlist for a year or so, and I finally gave it a try; however, I won't be keeping it as I don't foresee this game keeping my attention, nor due I have the desire to play such a sparsely populated shmup, but it doesnt mean it desires a Downvote.
Good shmup, originally released on the Dreamcast (and it's arcade equivalent Naomi). Switch between three individually upgradeable weapons at will. Graphics are plain, but the music is good.
Hmmm, not the best, but it has its charm. Really old-school feel. 6 out of 10. Nice if you like old shoot'em ups. There are better games available with better graphics and playabillity. Pros: - changeble weapons, nice difficulty, score attack for each level Cons: - Grabbing upgrades and score boosts, 1 hit means death, not the entire screen used.
Worst part is the music. Best part? The gameplay is lifeless. Weapons are trash and I guess they were hoping to live off the transforming gimmick. Fail. Hard fail.
great shmup worth the price! also available on dreamcast and demul naomi emulator but you cant go wrong paying for the steam version.
Triangle Service shoot 'em up tend to have a samey and cheapness about them. But they also tend to have one interesting little mechanic that allow them to be somewhat memorable. And Trizeal is no different. Unlike other Triangle Sevce games, this was easier to remember which on it is due to the three, or Tri, transformations of the player's ship. The player's ship cycles through three forms each with their own base weapons. The first is a forward spread shot that is a good all rounder and pack a decent punch at point-blank range. The second is a powerful forward beam laser that the more I play this game, the less useful I find it even upgraded. The last is a slow, projectile-based homing missile that feels like it does the least amount of damage but doesn't need to be aimed allowing the player to completely focus dodging. In addition, the player can collect these primary colored orbs to power-up the equipped weapon. These power-ups allow the player to mix-and-match weapons. As transforming to a different weapon allow the powered up weapon to continue at a slightly weaker state. So, the player could have any combination of spread, laser and missiles if they wish. Beyond that, there isn't much more to Trizeal. The player also have a limited number of bombs that start as a small invincible aura before expanding to a screen wide damaging and bullet canceling attack. The game play is rather pedestrian but still enjoyable and pretty challenging. There's good blend of popcorn and bigger, tougher enemies both airborne and ground. The end of stage bosses are multistage affairs with nothing particularly interesting about them. Occasionally stages with have these Breakout sections where the player attempts to destroy all the enemies and survive. Trizeal Remix, like the other Triangle Serivce shooters, is a very average STG that both doesn't do anything interesting, but also doesn't really do anything badly. It's a simple, serviceable shooter. Nothing that's likely to be in someone's top 20, but also not something likely to be remembered as awful either. I like simple shooters, so I like Trizeal Remix. And it one of my favorite Triangle Service STGs. But it's a long ways from my favorite shmup. If it only a few bucks, I'd say give it a go. But I wouldn't pay double-digits in U.S. dollars for it.

I refuse to take a bite out of the nostalgia sandwich, so I say this game is solid but yet is easily one of the most unremarkable STG games in my Steam library. And after about 40 minutes of play, I'm already getting sick of the first level and third levels. Not much happens in them, and a lot of time is spent waiting for stage transitions, or in the case of level 1, just sitting behind large ships and wailing on them one-by-one at point-blank range. Doesn't help that the game is pretty ugly too (level 1 is claustrophobic because the clouds are clearly just textured mapped onto a 2D plane), and the boss designs feel like things I've seen many times over from other games. I guess the 'Breakout' system, or whatever it's called is interesting though. If you perform really well on certain parts of a level, the level gets extended with a very difficult sequence, which is good if you want to rack up more points. Anyway, to sum it up, the slow pacing ruins the early levels for me, and makes me not want to replay it every time I get a game over. Not a good sign for an STG I just started playing.
